2016-2017 GTMBB

Season starts 2 weeks from today with a DH at the Gigantic Mammary Gland... Lady J's host Samford at 5:30 and the BasketJackets host Tennessee Tech right after at 8pm.

The MBB game will be streamed live via ACC Network Extra. I can't figure out anything that is going on with the Lady J's TV or internet streaming coverage. Well, not much at least. I was hoping the All-Access package would be beneficial, but the news reported to me recently from Tech's Communications Director that our (ACC) contract with ESPN now nullifies the chances of games being streamed live via that PPV package are gone has me bummed. I was hoping this new ACCNE thing would mean MORE games being streamed live - and perhaps it is or will be and the announcement is upcoming - but, right now it actually looks like LESS coverage which sucks and makes no sense whatsoever.

I love Beesball Richard and do my best to sync the video with his call whenever I can get it to work. But, I do like watching the action of course as would anybody.

Having said all that, I did see where the Lady J's game at Kennesaw State is scheduled to be streamed live via ESPN-3. The Cesspool homer vs the Lady J's will be streamed live via ACCNE. And, it is confirmed now as expected that the LJ's road game at Bama will be streamed live via SEC Network Plus.

We are planning on the DH, and driving up to Stech81 country for KSU(Chastain exit off 5-75). Will give you my best report, afterwards, but definetly not the same.

If I didn't have RM for the road games, I'd go crazy. Try every year to get him inside for the home games. One day, I'm going to sit behind him with a Pom Pom and an ear glass.

While Richard is the best in the business, we all know the real reason to listen to Lady J's and Beesball broadcasts on WREK are for the commercials.

Hopefully, we can get the exhibition win over Shorter tomorrow. Thank Buddha we aren't playing Taller.

Drum punchline

We had to rally from a nine point deficit to put it into OT against Shorter. That doesn't sound very promising.

We went 0 for 14 outside the arc. From inside the arc, we went 38 of 54. That's 70%!!!

Now, we won't shoot that bad most of the time from outside the arc. And, this is only a sample of size of 1 in an exhibition game with a lot of new faces and new staff. Buuuuuut, things that make you go HMMMMMMM....

3p shooting was bad. I am glad they only took 14 shots. Turnovers are a concern again. Lets hope this gets the jitters gone and the players settle into the fast paced rhythm they need to win.

OK, I'm going with 12-19 overall and 4-14 in the ACC thru the regular season. The #14 seed if all of the programs are in the ACCT...#13 seed if one of them drops out because they can't keep their things in their pants. With the Escort Service Academy, Cheaters, and Jim Boeheim in the ACC, you have to account for these possibilities.

My advice is to really enjoy the first 2 weeks of the season. ;)

Can we get 13 placed on probation, leaving BC and the Good Guys to fight it out?

Didn't we both have 10 wins when CJP signed up? I'm staying with 10, 12 was my ceiling. I've got 2 conference wins. I hope.

I do have us opening 0-7 and then 1-10 in the ACC, but then showing some improvement and going 3-4 from Feb. 4th thru Mar. 4th. January will just be absolutely brutal though. The ACC did these guys absolutely no favors yet again...Clemson at home might (and I stress "might") be our only legit shot at a conference win in our first 7. But, Blossomgame chose wisely to pull himself back out of the NBA Draft to return for his senior year. So, I have that penciled as a loss as well.

Maybe we'll surprise FSU or Notre Dame at home before January ends. Maybe?

Finding a few players like Okogie, Moore, Tadric Jackson and Matthews would be nice. Lammers will be back after this season. We do have a slight bridge to walk on, in getting over to the promised land.

I'm like you, taking whatever wins we can get. Upsets will be few...like CBC when we crawled around at the bottom with Coach Alphabetsheski fighting him for a win.

I'm not expecting Sexton or Carter Wednesday or later this week, but some good news during this early signing period would be a HUGE pump of adrenaline for this program and staff...to go along with Alvarado, who I assume will sign this week.

Don’t expect to see a consistent starting five from game to game. Pastner chose the five for the scrimmage against Mississippi State based upon who had grabbed the most rebounds during practices. The five for the exhibition game against Shorter was based upon which eligible players had won the most 50-50 balls in practices. So, the criteria for the starting five is going to change each game. Playing time will also change each game. Pastner said a player can go 30 minutes one game and one minute the next. “We are a team that is game by game,” he said. “There is not an opponent on our schedule we can step on the floor and show up and think we can overtake anyone. Our margin of error is close to none, and maybe none.”
This team may have trouble hitting 3-pointers. Pastner said they were 3-of-28 in their two scrimmages, including 0-for-14 in the overtime win against Shorter. The Jackets hit 35.7 percent of their 3-pointers last season, but most of the players who hit those shots are gone. “I like open 3s when feet are set, but I love layups. Hopefully we got the misses out.”
The biggest lesson he learned from the intensity and scrutiny he received in following John Calipari at Memphis that he will apply at Tech is that everyone on his staff has to be aligned to his vision and values. “If one person isn’t aligned … it can throw you off-kilter. I want our culture to be self-motivated, guys who are internally drive to be great.”
Because he wants to win so badly, and he’s never lost three consecutive games as a player, assistant coach or coach, he’s not sure how he is going to react when the Yellow Jackets lose three consecutive games. Because they were picked 14th out of 15 teams in the ACC preseason poll, it seems likely that long losing streaks will occur. He said he was asked during his interview for the job if he has the temperament stay positive during the next two years. “I’ve handled it to this point, but we are also 0-0. If we go through the projections, the word I was told when I was being interviewed and hired, was balance. It will be interesting. I keep reminding myself to see the big picture. Things could look totally different in two years. The reward could be gratifying.”
The early signing period starts Wednesday. He said he doesn’t think Tech needs to have 13 players on scholarship, especially because he prefers to play between 7-8. Pastner isn’t sure what will happen on Wednesday. “We’ve had great official visits. We’ve covered a lot of ground. Just need one or two to pull the trigger. To build in recruiting, you have to get talent, but you have to get a guy or two that is better than people think, and you have to get lucky. You need to sign someone who is just as good as the 5 star. We’ve worked as hard as any staff in the history of mankind with this recruiting. But we might not sign as many guys. It’s just the way it is. You have to get lucky.”

Okogie looked like the kind of a guy Pastner can build around in that Tenn Tech game - very impressive skill set.

Lammers has developed a body of a track hurdler, in CJP's run-run-don't wear the leather off the ball by dribbling offense. His transition skills for the defense will spark the next two years for any success we have in the ACC.
