2016-2017 GTMBB

So much respect for a young man like Quinton Stephens... http://www.myajc.com/news/sports/college/how-pastner-is-changing-georgia-techs-culture/nsmMW/

“We’re building a culture here and really establishing that culture,” senior Quinton Stephens said. “I know he’s going to do a great job recruiting. I take it under my responsibility to make sure that the guys here bringing in those recruits (in the future) have a standard that Georgia Tech is going to have.”

Great leadership from a senior. I have not doubted the integrity of any of GT's players over the past few seasons. They always want to do their best for GT.

I'm curious to see how Kellen McCormick, the grad transfer from Western Michigan, does in the early goings of the season. For a team who lacks scorers and outside shooters, I imagine he has the green light to shoot from outside the arc whenever he wants pretty much.

Like my Dad, a highly successful high school basketball coach, always says... if you can score/make shots consistently, they'll find a place on the court for you.

(implied message: no matter how bad your defense might be) ;)

Teams better not come out flat against us, because CJP won't accept a lack of effort or a losing attitude. We might not have the talent, but the seeds are being planted.....

Rothstein must have not been alive or paying attention to the first couple of teams Tech put on the court when we entered the ACC.

Even then, I think his statement is pretty stupid. Sure, we lack ACC-caliber talent, but this team is not completely void of talent like he is implying. Not even close, IMO. We will win some ACC games this year. Might be as few as 2. Might be as many as 6. But, we'll trump the awful winless season BC put on the boards last year and certainly be light years better than those early ACC Tech teams (and even one of those upset the mighty Ralph Sampson in his first season at Massah Jeffuhsun's Univuhsity).

Coach Josh Pastner’s take: He just can’t play cool. He’s got a lot of ability, a lot of talent. When he’s playing well he’s at a high level but he can’t be an energy taker. His biggest thing is he’s got to be an energy giver. He’s got to be an energy giver. When he’s an energy giver he’s got a chance to be a good player. When he’s an energy taker he’s just going to sit the bench.

Coach Josh Pastner’s take: Tough, hard-nosed. Got to continue to improve his shooting. He’s got to have a high assist to low turnover ratio. Simple, sound and solid in executing what needs to be executed. Be a great defender. He’s gotten better with his conditioning for us too. Understanding about driving angles and clipping the hip on all of our drives.

Coach Josh Pastner’s take: Big thing for Josh Heath is he had a 3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio for us last year. He’s got to continue with that this year. He’s got to do a good job for us defensively. He’s got to be more vocal and he’s got to shoot at a higher clip from 3. He can’t be in the 20 percent range from 3—point range. He’s got to shoot at a higher clip.

Coach Josh Pastner’s take: He’s got to understand about shot selection. When he takes great shots he’s a great player. When he tries to force the game and not keep it simple and do things that aren’t in his game then he becomes a player that’s not real effective and not real efficient. He’s got to be a guy that’s effective and efficient, get his open shots and when his feet are set drill it. He’s got to do a good job on the glass for us. He’s got to get to the free-throw line more.

Here's your answers...South Carolina, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State.

Good article. Thanks for posting it. I'm excited. Of course, I say that this time of year every year. I expected CJP to implement his style of play whether we have the personnel to run it or not. Good to see him confirming that. We need to sell this style of play in recruiting even though it may look awkward at times. But, selling for the future is the key right now in building this thing back. You can't sell to a recruit a vision of what we "will do in the future" once you get here. They need to see it in action. For some of these big timers we are in on, but most don't give us a legit chance, my hope is they wait until spring to sign. Give us a season to show what we are about...and, more importantly, how they will fit into our scheme.

I believe your vision was more in line, than my hopes when he was first hired of up tempo and fit the talent aboard in the last 1/4 of a tight game. From those initial practices it became obvious we were going full bore within CJP's system, no matter the outcome of the games in this coming season.

Totally on board with this, although nobody would consult me, and rightfully so. We are picked for 14th, so as Trump says, "what the heck do you have to lose, in the inner city".

If we can sign one more who could develop into an ACC stud for the early period in addition to Jose, I'm delirious. Thank goodness CER is searching internationally.

No surprise, some good comments about Josh Okogie from CJP... http://www.ramblinwreck.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/102716aaa.html

Recall, I posted a few months ago about my Dwag brother who saw Okogie many times in HS advising me that he is "very underrated" and "should be a 4-star" and "will contribute immediately at Tech". And, this is from a guy who doesn't offer up a lot of compliments about our signees. ;)
