GTMBB Recruiting, 2017.

I look forward to (hopefully) the day when I see a couple of guys on a Team USA U17 team from Georgia that I know they either will be Jackets in the future or we are at least in their top 2 or 3 in the recruiting game. Thanks for the heads up, mate. I will be following those young men and the entire USA team. Hoping to find some online streaming of games some place. Will post if I find anything. Looking for the Women's U17 USA team as well.

Meco Lewis, from the burbs of Chicago, has a passion for HS Hoops. Obviously, this young man is a person of interest for him to be following....

Am hearing that Hudl is having some troubles if you are trying to embed any of their videos.

More from Va.:

Rayshaun Hammonds, SF, 2017: Not many have had a better, more productive spring than the Peach State native. Rayshaun Hammonds was once thought of primarily as a combo, tweener forward that enjoyed playing on the perimeter. However, the Norcross junior has vastly improved his outside jumper and ball skills, all of which was on full display in Virginia. The lefty got to the basket off of a deadly first step, finished through contact, and showed some stones during his overtime clinching 23-footer at the buzzer. No wonder why Hammonds has become such a priority for the top SEC programs. - Corey Evans.

The USA Women's U17 destroyed South Korea yesterday. All 3 Atlanta-area players played well, but then again, South Korea was totally outmatched. Not a real test. Olivia Nelson-Ododa (Class of '18) from Winder-Barrow, a starter for Team USA, is every bit of 6'4" and may grow a little taller. She's rail thin and will get eaten alive in the post at the collegiate level if she doesn't bulk up. As I've stated multiple times over the years though, she has the most underrate physical attribute a basketball player can have and that is long arms. Her wing span is a nice strength. She's just a rising junior so she has time to get in the weight room.

Maya Dodson (Class of '17 from St. Francis HS, Alpharetta) started and logged 27 minutes and Jenna Brown (Class of '18 from Lovett School, Marietta) came off the bench for 14 minutes. The next game is Friday morning at 8:15amET versus the Czechs and can be seen at FIBA World's YouTube channel (video streaming was pretty good yesterday for first time using it).

Today, the USA Men's U17 team gets going at the same Zaragoza, Spain, locale. Wendell Carter, 5-star target of essentially everybody, 6'10" Class of '17 from Pace Academy, will be the featured stud for the Americans. The guys kickoff pool play today at 2:30pmET against "Chinese Taipei" (i.e., Taiwan).

Other Georgians on the roster include Colin Sexton, Class of '17 6'2" Guard, that Buzzforlife has so excellently previewed multiple times in this thread as CJP would love to see him with our Jackets.

Here's the link to FIBA World's YouTube site... https://www.youtube.com/user/FIBAWorld

Good luck to Team USA.

Great point about the wing span for a basketball player. As you know in WBB, it's not about dunking/skyscrapers and seven footers-the reach or length is so vital.

Other than NC St., Ga. and the like, you don't see those physical plow gals in the lane.

O.K., maybe Stech has one wife(too many to count on a non-math website)for the grocery lane?

Tech targets Carter, Sexton and Team USA about to start against Turkey in U17 World Championships Game 2 of Pool Play right now here....

Sexton looks REALLY good. Smooth and in control to the glass. Good ball handling (stech81 can appreciate that). Nice range and hits the open 3. Would LOOOOOVE if we could keep him close to home.

Same for Carter of course. He's not even playing that well and he still looks great.

There are some players from other countries doing their best to be seen. Turkey has a black guy named Mohammed I think it is who has shown good range on his jumper, for instance. They also have a bulky post who looks like he could play one day at the D1 level, though not at an ACC level.

Interesting that the 2 best players (in my eyes) on the Men's team are from the Atlanta area. Speaks to how loaded the ATL is for the class of '17 because there are plenty more who aren't even on this American team.

On the women's side, all 3 of the Georgia-based players play significant minutes and Nelson-Ododa is a starter (and doing very well). Dodson and Brown come off the bench but are doing well. In the 9-pt win earlier today over the Czech Republic, the Women's USA team must have missed 15 shots under the basket and I haven't seen the box score yet but willing to bet they shot less than 50% from the FT line (Nelson-Ododa had a terrible day at the charity stripe, but at least she got there frequently...correctable).

One more thing about these FIBA U17 games in Spain...I love the 24-second shot clock they have at the international level. These guys and gals play without any worry of that shot clock. Would love to see both D1 college MBB and WBB move to that format to be consistent with the international game.

Also interesting to me is to see how both American teams just win pretty much on superior talent. The national teams they are playing have been playing together for most of the year and in the past. The Americans are thrown together and are just getting to know one another only 2 games and some scrimmages in now. Some of these guys and gals played for Team USA together in the past. Lots of new faces to mix in each year though.

USA Men U17 defeats Turkey 84-66.

Collin Sexton ('17, 6'2" Guard, Pebblebrook HS, Mableton) scored 20 points going 6 of 11 from the field, 2 of 3 outside the arc, and a perfect 6 of 6 from the FT line. He led the team in assists (4) and tied Wendell Carter, Jr., for the team lead in steals (3). That was coming off the bench and in just 20 minutes of floor time for Sexton, btw.

Carter, Jr. ('17, 6'10" Power Forward, Pace Academy, Lilburn) led the team in rebounds with a whopping 14 to go along with 9 points scored...going 4 of 8 from the field and 1 of 2 from the FT line. He starts and got the 14 boards, 3 steals and 9 points in just 19 minutes of floor time.

Boy, these 2 young men would look GRRRRREAT in a Tech uni. Hopefully CJP and staff can make up some ground with Carter, Jr., as we are battling the blue bloods for him...and, I imagine if we aren't already, we will be battling the blue bloods for Sexton as well.

Stay home, young men! Help CJP and your home town team be the beginning of a special rebirth of Tech Hoops.

For now, continue to kick some ass over in Spain.

Next game for the USA U17 Men... Sunday, 8:15amET, vs Egypt...last game of Pool Play before the Round of 16 playoffs begins on Tuesday (time TBA...will post once known).

Next game for the USA U17 Women... Saturday, 3:00pmET, vs Italy... last game of Pool Play...both teams are 2-0 in pool play so the winner win the group...I bet Lady J's Antonia Peresson and newcomer Francesca Pan know some of these young Italian gals...they have the size that can mark up against the tall front line of the American team (something so far the South Koreans couldn't come close to and today the Czechs were a perimeter finesse 3-pt shooting team)...the 2 favorites in this tournament are Australia and USA...they scrimmaged this past Monday prior to the start of the tournament...the Aussies were up by 19 with 3 minutes left in the 3Q before the USA came storming back to win by 3 at the end, FWIW.

^^^Lilburn's Wendell Carter, Jr....Ratface and everybody else wants him badly...hopefully he along with Sexton stays in the ATL...at least, for 1 year...preferably more^^^

Is it possible for Duke to take Carter, Trent and Sexton? They have offered all three, and rumors point to that desire with the young guys being good with all playing together.

FYI...

...Team USA U17's plays Argentina at 3pmET today. Sexton did not play in the last game (win over Egypt in last game of group play). Not sure why.

Today's game is first in elimination round of 16. USA should breeze and then same in next game (quarterfinals) against winner of China & South Korea.

Wasn't much of a game (as expected) yesterday as the USA U17's blew out Argentina, 109-56.

Collin Sexton, who reportedly has hinted he wants to announce a commitment in July, played 14 minutes off the bench as he has done throughout this tournament. In those 14 minutes, he scored 14 points going 3 of 8 from the field and continuing to get to the line and converting once there with a 8-for-10 performance. CS also added 2 assists and 2 steals.

Wendell Carter Jr., started as usual, but was only needed for 11 minutes of play. In those 11 minutes, he pulled down 10 boards and scored 6 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field.

The USA U17's now face South Korea in the quarterfinals and what will likely be another lopsided game on Thursday at 3pm.

Today, the USA U17 Ladies face France in the quarterfinals at 3pm. If Team USA wins, it will likely set up a showdown of the 2 favorites in the semifinals against Australia, who faces the Czechs today, on Friday (tipoff time TBA). I'll be watching. YouTube reports over 2 million viewers have streamed these games so far.
