G.T. Football Recruiting, 2017, (24).

Fingers crossed. Would be great to get some more momentum going with verbal commits - and particular, an offensive lineman that has received a lot of attention. With high school preseason "camps" cranking up, we may see a bit of increased momentum of guys verbally committing to various programs right now for those who want to "get it over with" before their season begins.

Nothing against any of them (except for the extreme cases of drama we see from time to time), but I always appreciate these young men a little more than others because they aren't seeking the limelight in the recruiting process. Unfortunately, this moronic system of star-giving by the services often forget about these guys who commit early and give more credence to those who live the drama with cap-selection events near signing day.

Not that the Jackets run his style offense, however a nice, smart young man with a good future:

Update: Stanford commit.

Welcome Mr. Harris I give you 10 stars , sorry 11 stars are for defensive players. 10 is as high as we can go for offense.

After talking to my lovable beagle, Ginger, last night...I've decided to bump Mr. Harris up from 9 stars to 9 1/4 stars. She said something about taking a lot of balls to commit to Tech over Wake Forest, who she reminds me is running all of college athletics. She's smarter than me (which I know isn't saying much) so I will go with her direction as usual.

The smart ass response is we need another 72 O-Line committed per conventional wisdom of some of the Tech fanbase along with another 44 assistant OL coaches per apparently our head coach. ;)

And while those are possibilities of course, a few notes...

1. Will Bailey Ivemeyer earn a ship at some point?
2. Will Brandon Adams wind up on the DL or OL? I'm betting he'll be a real football player and wind up on the defensive side where we have an even bigger depth need - as opposed to the offense-loving fans who think we need another 72 O-Linemen on roster.
3. Putting Adams aside and counting Ivemeyer, we have 7 R-Fr + Soph as well as 3 incoming OL's who will likely redshirt this fall (Braun, Lee & Cooper).
4. This '17 signing class should be focused on replacing the juniors on this upcoming season's roster to competently replace after a year of likely redshirting. We have 4 juniors on this season's roster (Griffin, Devine, Fromayan the Sausage King, and Marshall). We have 3 verbal commits so far pegged for OL.
5. My SWAG is we'll see the staff target at least 2 more OL with a ship and perhaps 3. From there, we will hope we can sway another 1 or 2 PWO's.
6. We have some flexibility with Adams down the road as well. For that matter, we may have flexibility with others too. If we can pick up some momentum in getting 2 or 3 interior DL's committed, that helps even more obviously.

So far, if my accounting is accurate, we have 3 OL's, 2 kickers, 2 DB's, and 1 LB. IMO, we need DL's badly at this point. 5 of our 8 2-deep across the DL will likely be Jr. or Sr. this fall. Adams eventually being a part of the DL would help that scenario if needed.

edit note: on the updated rr.com roster, Adams is listed as a DT so perhaps that puts that discussion to rest for now...also edited the numbers for OL's due to Nick Williams now listed at DL instead of OL

Harris has stated, it was the combination of academics and football that made his decision.

Awesome news! If Paul Johnson wants Hawaii kids, Paul Johnson gets 'em.

Welcome, MM!

4 OL's. Nice!

(we only need 71 more)

;)

Note to CPJ if you need GTJT and me to help you scout others in Hawaii we will be happy to go. And if you have someone in Las Vegas we can do that also but may need a little more money.

I think 4 OL was the target most everyone mentioned earlier. SO if these 4 stick to February then the coaches are done with the O-line this year.

Hopefully we take one more OL to round the class out(might R/S two or more, for 2018), plus at least one PWO.

This kid is not from the island, moved around with a military family. Many stops, as atypical.

Important edit...

...If Paul Johnson wants guys who lived all over the place due to being in a military family and winds up in high school in Hawaii, then Paul Johnson gets 'em.

:D

Will take all of his official visits in the fall-

DE Brad Johnson of Pendleton was at USC Saturday and said he had a great time on the visit. He had considered going to Virginia Tech Monday but didn't make it. He's also been looking at Michigan State, Notre Dame and Mississippi State for visits this summer. Other offers are Tennessee, Texas A&M, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech and Duke. "I'm just looking for the school that has the best overall fit for me academic and football wise. A place where I feel I have the best relationship with the coaches and players . Somewhere I can make an easy transition from high school to college."

Nebraska commit from Dr. Phillips H.S. in Orlando, Fl.:

3 star Defensive End(of course a 12 star if he comes over to the good guys....7 extra stars awarded for choosing Tech, 2 stars for a most deserving Defense on the line).
