Hate to say it but Kirby Smart is really recruiting well in state. According to 24/7 they have 15 of the top 17 state players committed and the other 2 are players they are not recruiting.
Things at Georgia Tech have changed so much since the O'Leary days that I don't think this would be possible, even if the players were highly motivated to go there.
People, including the young guys, are all awash in emotion that UGA will finally become Alabama - now that they have a former Alabama assistant coach. Of course, CKS may be the best thing UGA has ever had, and it is true that Jimmy's and Joe's trump X's and O's - so his recruiting is important. But one thing to always remember is this: this is UGA, not Alabama.
UGA is already beating almost everyone except the Alabama's and Florida's of the world. They averaged 10 wins per season under Richt, but could not get into a title game. The closest they came was against... Alabama in 2012... a game they lost. So their quest is equivalent to drawing to an inside straight. Very slim margin of error.
Consider this, too: Saban will retire in a couple of years. If CKS is successful, guess where they well may come to find his successor... you guessed it... Athens, GA... to the one who learned under the master and once walked the sidelines at Bryant-Denny. UGA or Alabama??? You know where he'd rather be - the place where he can be the best, or the place where he has to beat the best or get fired.
So it's all an illusion for the perpetual runner-up. UGA is not Alabama. They have covered up recruiting in GA for decades. This is nothing new. We approached some parity when we had O'Leary and they had Donnan, but not even Dodd out recruited UGA in GA after about 1960.
So don't sweat it. This is all a flash in the pan, and it will be fun to watch.
