G.T. Football Recruiting, 2017, (24).

Trent Carrington (Fayette County), 5-11, 185 S

Stars: 3

Status: Uncommitted

State Ranking: No. 122

Offers/Interest: Georgia Tech, Mercer

INSIGHT: Unfortunately the recruiting game is often more about popularity than sheer ability. This could be why more haven’t heard of Carrington who, with the graduation of safety Sean Harper (Tulane), may be ready to take the spotlight in the Tigers’ experienced secondary in 2016. Look for him to shine at tailback also, just as he did during the Tigers’ spring game Friday.

Memphis and UNC offered rising senior Zach Quinney out of Savannah Christian. The angular offensive tackle now has over 20 offers and is being hotly pursued by Georgia Tech, Duke and UNC.

Frank Harris, QB, from Texas:

His numbers from Junior season:

Offensive MVP District 25-6A
Passing: 2,069 yds. w/ 17TDs
Rushing: 2,712 yds. w/ 38TDs
55 TDs totaled.

Profile - Matthew Butler

Butler has been staying in shape preparing for spring football by playing on the school’s basketball team and he’ll be on the track and field team this spring.

Just prior to our interview, Matthew picked up his 12th offer from Arkansas. Maryland, Miami, Purdue, and South Carolina have also begun to show interest in Butler. “A lot of schools have said that they’ll be at my spring practices so I’ll have a chance to show what I can do.”

Georgia Tech recently received a visit from Butler. “They are high on my list.” Matthew feels that Tech is unique because they have everything he is looking for in a school. Tech will be one of the schools that Butler will be taking a serious look at as he moves forward with his recruitment.

A return visit to Tech is one of the trips Matthew will be taking this spring. Butler hasn’t decided whether he’ll visit their practices, the spring game, or both. “I do know that I will be coming back down with my parents. They like Tech a lot.” Butler also has a few other visits in mind. “I’ll need to get with my parents to see what we can do.”

Georgia Tech, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Penn State, and Virginia Tech are six schools that are standing out to Butler at this time. “If I had to choose a school right now, I feel it would come from those six.” Matthews know his recruitment has a long way to go and that this list of six could change.

Matthew hopes to become a lawyer when his playing days are over. “I want to visit schools to see if they have post graduate opportunities that will get me into law school.” Matthew is also looking for a school that will push him in the classroom and on the football field. “Distance won’t matter to me as I know sometimes you have to travel to get what you want.”

From Rivals:
GEORGIA TECH

Biggest Remaining Need: Offensive Line

Top Targets: Case Cook, Cole Bentley, Nick Brahms, Demetris Harris

Notes: Georgia Tech only has one player committed in the 2017 class, so they have some work to do. The Yellow Jackets need to rebuild the offensive line and are looking to land about five offensive linemen this cycle. Cook, Bentley, Brahms and Harris have Georgia Tech in the mix right now, but there is a lot left to play out.

Joshua Swilling – OLB
LANGSTON HUGHES
XXXXXXXXXXXX#10 OUTSIDE LINEBACKER

OFFERS: Arkansas State, Mercer & Hampton University

HT: 6’2″
WT: 225
Class: 2017
GPA: 3.25

What makes you stand out as a future collegiate athlete?

I’m a hard worker on the field especially in the classroom. I play my heart out every game like it’s my last.

Outside Linebacker, Class of 2017

Swilling has a football pedigree and his dad was a star at GT. He was awarded 2nd Team All Region last fall. The rising senior has outstanding lateral quickness which allows him to change directions quickly. He plays DE primarily for Langston but Swilling looks like an OLB at the next level. He has long arms which allows him to disrupt the passing game and shed blocks. Swilling has a high motor and desire to get after the quarterback. FBS player and we think more offers are coming this summer.

..... like Cole Bentley, yet another OL being offered.

This 6'4" 285 pounder is from Eugene, Oregon and being favored by several west coast schools:

Coach Glisson and his star players from Troup County:

Left-right..@tezcrow (2018) @kjMartin_2 (2019) @Flytweetsonly (2020) @Lethal_Balller (2019)

They are 2018, 2019, 2020....so naturally I placed them in the upcoming year and too lazy to move them.
