CPJ said Miami’s passing attack is a challenge for the defense because you have to mix pressure and play some coverage too. QB is talented and the WRs are good. You can’t completely stop them, but you want to limit big plays and hold them. CPJ said the D played really well in the red zone last year against Miami and that was a key to wining the game.

CPJ talked up Brant Mitchell said he has great football instincts.

CPJ said that he has 12-straight bowls and 17 of 19 years in post season, he said it is disappointing that the streak ends, but it is time to start another one. Said it speaks well for the consistency of the program over the last three coaches GOL, CCG and CPJ. Said prior to this one they didn’t really have long streaks of plus .500 every year.

CPJ said they will use the extra time for recruiting, but says not having the extra practices is disappointing. Said he isn’t sure what to do because it has been so long since he was free in December. It was not something they planned on.

CPJ said he hasn’t thought about getting in with 5 wins, said he thinks the ACC will fill their bowl allotment. (They won’t if ND is in the playoff). Said he is focused on Miami.

CPJ said they will try to rotate more guys to get some younger guys in while still trying to win. Said six freshmen on offense in the rotation already and it is harder to get younger than that.

CPJ said Brad Stewart has fought hard and played through some injuries. Said in a perfect world they would have redshirted him. He says he sees how much Harland Howell and Christian Philpott are benefitting from redshirts and says they are getting better every day. Said both have been rotating with the varsity and scout team week to week. Tried to keep them up, Christian has been with the scouts more than Harland, but both are getting better and better, good frames, speed and skill sets.

CPJ said Rook-Chungong is consistent and doesn’t make a ton of plays, but is where he is supposed to be.

CPJ said that Broderick Snoddy’s cast is almost gone, they shaved it down more again this week. Said that was no reason for his fumble, one was because the OL didn’t get out and pick up the LB and that one was tough because he was catching the pitch as he got hit. Said the other one was just a mistake and he has to hang onto it.

CPJ said that Will Bryan has played well and Trey Klock has too and they have a lot of ability, but he isn’t ready to say anyone will be great. Said occasionally Will gets overmatched physically but that is because he is barely out of HS. Both have good athleticism and good feet.
