Coach Key at the Capitol

I was catching up with a friend from high school who now works at the state capitol, and he told me a story about Coach Key coming to meet all the everyone there. He also mentioned that kirby has never made an appearance.

One of the Senators made a joke about uga beating up on GT the last few years and Key got very serious and replied with something like “that stops now. Those days are over” my buddy and all the senators were very taken aback by how serious and intense coach Key was. He is not a fan of the Jackets but was very impressed by Coach Key. Exciting times are ahead! I can’t wait to be in Ireland in 3 weeks!

OT: Thrivent Commercial

Watching the Olympics on NBC and a Thrivent commercial comes on. It’s a football coach and he’s running players through drills in a football stadium that looks familiar. I’m pretty sure it’s Bobby Dodd Stadium and AJ Artis the S&C coach but not sure. It has some players in it too. I may be completely off but pretty cool if true. No GT branding tho so that’s a bummer.

HOOPS Tech basketball notes and quotes from practice 8/1

Damon Stoudamire opened up practice for a few media members on Thursday and I was lucky enough to attend. After practice, we spoke to Damon, Nait George and Kowacie Reeves.

Baye Ndongo was not in attendance as he is back home in Senegal and will return in two weeks when school starts. It cool that he got a chance to go home and spend some real time with his family this summer.

OT: $5M enough to retire?

After a guy bought lottery tickets during lunch, a predictable conversation took over the office. I usually opt out of these but I couldn’t escape it and now I’m curious how this community responds.

Scenario: lottery win nets $5M lump sum after taxes. Assume mid 40s, American dream (spouse, 2 kids, dog, $500k 4BR/3 house) in Atlanta/Charlotte/Nashville type market. Assume middle management career and good health .

- Do you retire from Corporate America, fully retire, or keep working? Why?

- where it got interesting was, how would you ensure the $5M would last? What would you do with it.

My answer was keep working and tell no one else about it. Boring, yes but I didn’t think $5M was enough. I could definitely make it work but my walk away number was higher for my idea of comfortable retirement.

So GT fandom, what say you???

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball head coach Aileen Morales has announced the hiring of Megan Hill as the program’s assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
