Only way I can see this being fixed because the portal has to be open at the end of the academic year is to start the season in July. Run the season July-Dec. Do you agree or how am I stupid?

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball freshman Dani Carnegie was named the ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday after helping the Yellow Jackets pick up a pair of victories last week. The honor marks the second for the freshman this season.

Carnegie averaged 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in Tech’s two wins against Louisiana Monroe, 97-39, and No. 14 North Carolina, 82-76. She hit a team-high six three-pointers in the two games, while going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line.

The freshman opened the week chipping in 14 points against ULM, hitting four three-pointers, and securing eight rebounds. She followed that performance dropping 22 points at North Carolina in Tech’s ACC opener. It was the second 20-plus point outing this season and set a new personal-best in scoring. Carnegie is one of just two freshmen in the ACC to own multiple 20-plus point games.

Carnegie has now scored in double-figures in 10 games this season, including the last five-straight. The freshman leads Georgia Tech overall in scoring on the season, averaging 14.6 points per game. Additionally, Carnegie continues to lead all freshmen in the ACC in scoring and ranks 16th overall. Carnegie has connected on 30 three-pointers this season, leading Tech in triples made, while ranking third in the ACC.

With Georgia Tech’s win at No. 14 North Carolina on Sunday, the Yellow Jackets moved to 11-0 on the season. Tech jumped to No. 17 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll released on Monday, making the largest move of the week, climbing eight spots.

The Yellow Jackets return to Atlanta to open a five-game homestand on Wednesday, Dec. 18, welcoming Rice to McCamish Pavilion. Tip is slated for 2 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.

GEORGIA TECH WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CELEBRATES 50 YEARS
Georgia Tech is celebrating the 50th anniversary of women’s basketball on The Flats this season. Under the direction of coach Jim Culpepper, Georgia Tech competed its first year in the Georgia Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (GAIAW) in 1974-75 before joining the ACC in 1979-80. Tech has seen many highlights over 50 years, including playing in the NCAA Tournament 11 times, with two Sweet 16 appearances (2012, 2021), and producing nine WNBA draft picks, featuring first round draft picks Alex Montgomery and Sasha Goodlett. In its first postseason berth in school history, Georgia Tech captured the 1992 National Women’s Invitational Tournament. Currently in its sixth season under head coach Nell Fortner, the Yellow Jackets have reach postseason play three times in the last five years.

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball was recognized on Tuesday for their outstanding achievements this season, being named National Team of the Week by both NCAA.com and USBWA.

The Yellow Jackets, which climbed to No. 17 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll on Monday, improved to 11-0 on the season with wins over Louisiana Monroe and No. 17 North Carolina last week. Off to the best start in program history, Georgia Tech has defeated two top-25 teams and four teams in the top 50 NET rankings this season.

This past week, Georgia Tech opened its slate with a 97-37 rout of ULM. The 60-point win against the Warhawks was the Jackets’ largest margin of victory since Nov. 11, 2011. Four Jackets tallied double-figures, led by Rusne Augustinaite’s 17 points. Tech hit 14 three-pointers in the match-up, marking the fourth time this season Tech has hit 10 or more in a game.

Georgia Tech picked up another marquee win this season, edging then-No. 14 North Carolina in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams on Sunday. The Jackets led by as many as 23 points against UNC, which came into the tilt owning the sixth-ranked scoring defense in the country and led the ACC in limiting its opponents to less than 50 points a game. Georgia Tech subsequently scored 50 points in the first half and finished with 82 overall against the Tar Heels, marking the most points UNC has allowed this season.

What are y’all’s thoughts on Cruz to fill the edge role?

Sheraton Hilton Westin all booked. Trying to find a suite hotel somewhat close but once we get there we’re parking the car and ubering.

No excuses for next year. Retain our key players, send our coaches to game day / clock management camp and fill key gaps in the portal. Do this and we should be in a position to compete for the ACC

do you know of any potential transfer targets for us via rumors or what have you from some of the factories in the playoffs? We are clearly being tight with our money right now so I'm curious if we are saving for a few big splashes.

KQ- I wouldn't be able to talk about that either way, that implicates GT for tampering if I said anything other than no. They have some cool portal kids coming to visit this week.

Does anyone know if AFCA has ever presented a recommendation to whoever runs college football about the regulation of the portal and nil?

KQ- I'm sure they have, the NCAA is afraid to get sued out of existence so they are just bowing to the whims of the courts right now.

Perhaps this has already been covered - hard to keep up with every sentence of every thread but it would be great to get some clarity on timing for exactly when the $20M revenue sharing kicks in and clarity on if NIL is above and beyond that figure. Will the GT NIL Collective just feed the $20M GTAA Rev share or be something entirely separate?

KQ- The goal is to have more than the baseline for NIL. They have not announced that I recall the closure of the TechWay unlike other programs are doing either. Now, J Batt would like people to donate to get to the $20 million mark in-house and then give to the TechWay I think if he had his choice in the matter because that way they have control of it completely and then the extra money can be directed very specifically and it isn't a drain on the budget.

What’s it going to take to be good at basketball again? Take away the Jose yr when we were still 9-8 at one point but then didn’t lose again other than that and a strong season the yr before at the end of the yr GT hasn’t been good at all. Even 2010 we were a 10 seed right? Man it just doesn’t seem like we can ever turn the corner.

KQ- Bro I have no idea. The thing I was most excited about when I took the job in the SPRING OF 2009 was covering good men's basketball after years of covering Dennis ****ing Felton at UGA. I got like two good seasons in 15 years. It is so annoying to me, especially going to cover all the games. Damon's two sophomores have played very poorly this year and Baye Ndongo regressed to the point where he should probably have his NIL money taken away if they could do that to refocus him. It is a weird deal, but they are only 1/3 into the season so let's see what they can do in the final 2/3s, but my optimism is being sapped with each 3+ minute scoreless stretch.

Any details on Key's new contract?

KQ- I don't like to deal with that stuff as it can ruffle the feathers of my relationships so I leave it to people like Chad at the AJC. Chad said that they are not going to quickly release the contract to him (Kirby's Law) so it may be a bit before it leaks. He put in the FOI right after it was announced.

How many of our 2024 football team will have no eligibility left after this bowl game?

There are 18 players set to play their final game for Georgia Tech as seniors in the bowl game plus those that already left as grad transfers like Corey Robinson, Leo Blackburn, Zach Pyron and Horace Lockett who won't play in the game.

I heard that we are at about 80 football scholarships. going into next. What quantities are you now showing??

KQ- That would be incorrect, GT is at 73 scholarship players as of today after the portal departures.

Do we have any quality punter prospects in the portal or on the team?

KQ- Yes in the portal they are active.

Are the best portal players available now or in the spring? Is there a significant difference?

KQ- Typically the best players will be in now and not in the spring. The players have another 12 days to enter the portal as well.

Adidas has a new football template for the ‘23 season and has joined the minimalist trend by redesigning its logo by removing the Adidas script from underneath the 3 stripes and doing away with the ribbed jerseys. I’m wondering when will Tech introduce their new unis for the the upcoming year (there shouldnt be a drastic change from last year). Here are some examples from the other Adidas schools

THE FLATS – Off to the best start in program history, Georgia Tech women’s basketball catapulted to No. 17 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll released on Monday. The Yellow Jackets made the biggest jump of the week in the poll, moving up eight spots.

Tech moved to 11-0 on the season after collecting another top-25 win on Sunday at No. 14 North Carolina in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams. The Jackets led by as many as 23 points in the third quarter against UNC, which came into the match-up owning the sixth-ranked scoring defense in the country and led the ACC in limiting their opponents to less than 50 points a game. The Yellow Jackets scored 82 points against UNC, the most allowed by the Tar Heels this season.

Tech’s win on Sunday marked its second over a ranked opponent, as the Jackets took down then-No. 21 Oregon in the Hawaii North Shore Showcase in November. To date, Georgia Tech has faced four teams in the top 50 NET rankings and defeated all four.

Five Jackets finished in double-figures in Chapel Hill, marking the third time this season Tech had five in double-figures in a game. Tonie Morgan and Dani Carnegie led the way, chipping in 23 and 22 points, respectively.

Tech opened the week cruising past Louisiana Monroe, 97-37. The 60-point win against the Warhawks was the Jackets’ largest margin of victory since Nov. 11, 2011.

Imagine being Haynes King a very talented quarterback who has battled through adversity his entire college career at Georgia Tech and during his early career at Texas A&M. That adversity included significant injuries that cost him parts of three seasons (two at A&M) now including two games in 2024. King was having a great season when the wheels came off the bus at UNC and his shoulder failed him. The Jackets turned to veteran backup Zach Pyron and then later to true freshman Aaron Philo after Pyron got banged up.
