FOOTBALL OT: Week 3 games

I must say this football season has been refreshing. Seeing Miami wallop TAMU and Texas wallop Bama was absolutely incredible.

Here’s the games I’m watching this week:

The early games are kind of weak this week but I think I’ll tune in to FSU-BC and LSU-Miss St. I’m curious to see whether FSU-LSU meant anything because we could have seen a dominant FSU beating a great LSU or a good FSU beating an average LSU.

The afternoon game I’ll be watching is of course South Carolina at Georgia. I don’t expect a Gamecock victory but I will be hoping. Other than USCe I don’t think anyone but Tennessee will even be a speed bump for Georgia. I’ll probably also have Northwestern at Duke going. We need to get viewership up on ACC games.

The evening games, I’ll watch Tennessee at Florida and of course I’ll be watching us upset Ole Miss.

I think I’ll watch the first half of the Rocky Mt Sanders Family Traveling Own-the-Haters Tour.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Few quick Sunday afternoon notes on three potential in-state flip targets..

Still in the process of talking with several of the football visitors from this weekend, and trying to get a feel for what type of impact (if any) the delay and the performance on the field had on the guys that made the trip.

Here are my three biggest 2024 takeaways from those conversations-

1. GEORGIA TECH'S PUSH FOR KELL CB CEDRIC FRANKLIN REACHES NEW HEIGHTS

Cedric Franklin II was offered by the staff at Georgia Tech following an impressive performance during the Corky Kell 7v7 tournament that was held on GT's campus.

Many close to Franklin were not pleased with the timing of the offer, saying that the hometown team was far too late to offer.

Franklin scheduled an official visit with the staff, but first up was a trip to Charlottesville to see Virginia. The Cavaliers negatively recruited GT pretty strongly during the visit, and prior to leaving campus there he was committed to the coaching staff there.

As time has gone on, Georgia Tech has turned the heat up. Distance has started weighing in the mind of the Kell defensive back, as has the state of the UVA program.

Members of Franklin's family, per source, were unable to make the trip on Saturday for various reasons.

Franklin and those members of the family are expected to make a trip to Georgia Tech at some point this week.

From there, things could really heat up, and Franklin could be officially placed on flip watch.

2. KEEP AN EYE ON WESTLAKE OL DOMINIC STEWARD

Westlake has become a pretty significant pipeline for Georgia Tech in recent recruiting and transfer portal cycles.

After both Christian Peterson and Rae'Mon Mosby both fell down the recruiting board at their respective positions and landed elsewhere, many thought that any chances of a 2024 member of the GT recruiting class were gone.

Following a strong start to his senior season, OL Dominic Steward has quickly seen his stock rise. Currently committed to Troy, Steward has added offers from Missouri, Georgia State, and ECU.

"Georgia Tech has always been a dream school to me, so to be able to be on campus yesterday, and at Bobby Dodd, I was so excited to be there," said Steward after the visit. "Coach [Geep] Wade said that Georgia Tech is fired up about me. Athletic offensive tackles like myself are exactly what Tech needs and what Tech and himself love to recruit."

Keep an eye on this one. I don't think this is the last you'll hear of Steward.

3. DELAYS, TIMING CUT VISIT SHORT FOR MILTON LB JACOREY STEWART

The kickoff of the game on Saturday was originally set for around 1pm on Saturday afternoon. With kickoff at that time, most recruits had likely been on campus for multiple hours. With a 2+ hour delay due to the weather in the area, it was a (pun intended) perfect storm for some unfortunate results in recruiting.

While most recruits I have talked to stayed through the delay, Milton LB Jacorey Stewart and his family had a prior commitment that forced them to leave campus during the game on Saturday.

Stewart wasn't able to have any real conversations with the coaching staff, but has already locked in plans with LB coach Kevin Sherrer and DC Andrew Thacker to be in attendance for the matchup against Bowling Green scheduled for later this month.

More to come.

What’s New at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field in 2023

Updates throughout the facility await fans for Saturday’s opener vs. S.C. State

THE FLATS – A bevy of updates await fans inside of Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field for Saturday’s 2023 stadium opener versus South Carolina State.

The most notable and visible change is the new Hyundai Field name, in recognition of Georgia Tech athletics’ multi-decade partnership with Hyundai Motor Company, which was announced last month. As a part of the historic partnership, new signage and branding will be seen throughout the stadium, including the presence of a Hyundai vehicle, which was hoisted into the facility on Thursday.

Another element of the Hyundai partnership includes the construction of the new Hyundai Nest, which is located in section 131 on the southeast side of the stadium. The Hyundai Nest is a new premium viewing area with exclusive concessions, available to groups for single-game rental. To learn more about bringing your group to the Hyundai Nest, call the Georgia Tech athletics ticket office at 1-888-TECH-TIX or email tickets@athletics.gatech.edu.

An additional premium area that is available on a single-game basis is the Lexus Deck, located in the south end zone. Seats on the Lexus Deck include access to a lounge area inside the Wardlaw Building. The lounge has been updated in 2023 with new flooring, fixtures, while the outdoor seating includes wide, cushioned seats with a stunning view of the playing field and the Midtown Atlanta skyline. To learn more about purchasing seats on the Lexus Deck, contact Matt Lanier in the Alexander-Tharpe Fund atmlanier@athletics.gatech.edu.

Introduced in March and new to Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field for the 2023 season is the addition of New Realm Brewing Co.’s Ale of an Engineer to the selection of beers available for purchase during Tech football home games. New Realm’s Georgia Tech-branded Ale of an Engineer and Helluvienna Lager are available at concession stands throughout the stadium, including a brand-new New Realm Brewing Stand, which is located on the north concourse, adjacent to section 112.

Of course, the newest element to the Georgia Tech football gameday experience is Helluva Block Party Driven by Hyundai, which will make its debut beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The first-ever Helluva Block Party pregame concert will be held by DJ Envy, and will begin immediately following the conclusion of Yellow Jacket Alley (Georgia Tech’s traditional team arrival and pregame walk to the stadium). Permit holders for parking areas adjacent to North Avenue should make note of the new entry route from Centennial Olympic Park Drive (click HERE for map). FOOTBALL RECRUITING FNL Thread- Week 3

Kickoff still about 30 minutes away here at Roswell High School between Milton and Roswell.

GT targets involved here include-

2024 Milton LB Jacorey Stewart (flip target, visiting tomorrow)
2025 Milton TE Ryan Ghea (holds offer, was at game last week)
2025 Milton QB Luke Nickel (Miami commit, GT still pushing)
2025 Milton WR CJ Wiley (holds offer)

Feel free to post anything from games you are at in this thread.

Guess for week 1 uni?

I would love to see us in gold jerseys at the opener, or even an homage to 1990 with G/N/W (I dont think we wore that combo last year), but my gut says we go G/W/G. Key seems to be the type the he doesnt even care if its week 1, kickoff game, etc., He likely will stick with tradition for game 1. Plus the fact that we've practiced all camp and this week apparently with offense in white jerseys. We typically practice offense in the jersey we will wear to get the QBs focused on looking for a color. Opener could be an exception though.

TV for tomorrow

Hey folks. I can’t make make it to the game tomorrow. Gotta coach first youth track club. Family members bday after. Also my pops, @St Pete Jacket is down in St Pete. I saw ACCNx on You tube TV but it is unclear as to whether that will be on or not. Does anyone know? Ill have to set DVR. My Youtube TV is supposed to do it automatically for Tech games but i don’t even know what it means.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Several flip targets, multiple commits among the group expected at GT on Saturday

There is also a large group of 2026 and 2027 recruits from Grayson expected to be in attendance. Also there will again be multiple four-stars currently committed to another school checking out a different version of gold and white.
