Haynes King stats

Has been good this season but I like breaking down the season into 3 game quarters.

So far on the year he is
119/191, 1,631 yds, 16/6 td/int

First 3 games he was
68/102, 910 yds, 9/1 td/int

Second 3 games
51/89, 721 yds, 7/5 td/int

Curious over these next 3 games to watch that td/int ratio. Hopefully he just had a rough 3 game stretch and doesn’t continue on that trajectory moving forward. We win against evenly matched opponents when we limit our turnovers and that’s what we need to do to go bowling. Haynes King has the keys to the bowl bus. Let’s see how it goes.

ACC Concludes Annual Fall Meetings in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference concluded its annual fall meetings today following individual and joint sessions that included the league’s Athletic Directors (ADs), Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) and Senior Woman Administrators (SWAs). In continuing with the league’s ongoing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, each school was also represented by an additional senior athletics administrator.

In addition to the ACC’s current 15 member institutions, the league’s incoming members – University of California, Berkeley (Cal), Southern Methodist University (SMU) and Stanford University – also participated in the meeting.

“It was an outstanding two days of ACC Fall Meetings with incredible excitement surrounding what’s happening in this league now – including the current fall seasons – and as we look to the future,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “We have tremendous leadership at our soon to be 18 member institutions, and as a conference, we all remain committed to the collective priorities surrounding our student-athletes, broad-based programs and the overall success of the league.”

Joint sessions, attended by the ADs, FARs, SWAs and senior athletics administrators, featured an agenda that included updates and presentations surrounding ACC Network, Future of College Sports and ACC’s CORE (Champions of Racial Equity) initiatives.

The collaborative meetings also included discussions surrounding future regular-season schedules and championships for all 28 sponsored sports. The new schedules align with the addition of our three new members beginning with the 2024-25 athletic year.

ACC student-athletes Piper Hampsch of Duke (field hockey), Chloe Minas of Pitt (women’s soccer) and Olivia Summiel of Virginia Tech (women’s basketball) joined the meetings and spoke with the ADs, FARs, SWAs and senior athletics administrators. Hampsch is the ACC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Chair, Minas is the ACC SAAC Vice Chair and Summiel is the ACC’s representative on the NCAA SAAC.

The ACC Fall Meetings was the first league-wide meeting to take place in Charlotte since the conference moved its offices to the Queen City in September 2023. As part of the meetings, the league office hosted a reception in its new headquarters located in the Legacy Union’s Bank of America Tower in Uptown Charlotte.

Immediately following the meetings, the dates and sites for the 2024 ACC Winter Championships were announced. This includes the Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships (Feb. 20-24, 2024), Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 22-24, 2024), Men’s and Women’s Fencing Championships (Feb. 24-25, 2024), Women’s Basketball Championship (March 6-10, 2024), Wrestling Championships (March 10, 2024), Men’s Basketball Championship (March 12-16, 2024) and the ACC Gymnastics Championships (March 23, 2024).

As part of the ACC CORE presentation, plans for a third-annual Unity Tour will take place in Charleston, South Carolina. The tour is part of the ACC’s commitment to supporting student-athletes through meaningful educational opportunities, including in the area of social justice, and is a component of the league’s social justice platform, ACC UNITE. The ACC’s first Unity Tour was a trip to Montgomery and Selma, Alabama, in 2022, while last year’s tour was in Washington, D.C. Specific dates for this summer’s event will be announced at a later date.

Other topics discussed at the meetings included, but were not limited to:

  • ACC Football and Women’s and Men’s Basketball
  • Business, Finance and Revenue Generation
  • Federal Legislation
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • ACC Unity Tour
  • Disney, ESPN and ACC Network
  • Future of College Sports
  • NCAA Division I Council
  • ACC Strategic Marketing and Branding Initiative
  • ACC Olympic Sports Policies and Championships

Q's Take: A new season begins this week

Thanks to our new sponsor Inteleca for helping bring back Q's Take my weekly look at things around GT and college sports from my vantage.

GA Tech 2 660x165.jpg

Georgia Tech football need to win three games to get to a bowl game for the first time since 2018 and it will be a series of six one-week seasons for the Yellow Jackets starting with Boston College this weekend at BDS. This will also be the first home ACC game for the Jackets because of the opener in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Tech is 2-0 on the road in ACC play and 0-1 in "neutral site games."

New defensive coordinator Kevin Sherrer has had a week to implement whatever quick fixes he has for the defense including changing meetings, practice or whatever other preparation methods he felt needed a shake-up.

The Eagles also bring to town one of the least favorite things for Tech fans, a running quarterback in former Ware County (Ga.) standout Thomas Castellanos who has 500 yards rushing with seven TDs and a 5+ yard per carry average. He has as 2:1 touchdown to interception ratio and has thrown the ball well at times.

The winner of this game will likely set themselves up for a bowl berth as both teams have games that are tough for them ahead with Tech having a way harder schedule both in the front and the back end.

Can the Jackets put the misery of the Bowling Green game away and play like the team that beat Miami and Wake Forest and showed signs in Louisville and Ole Miss of being a good team or will they play down to the competition and give life to the Eagles?

That is the big question heading into this game. Tech has been on the extreme ends of the spectrum all season with marvelous quarters followed by offensive outages or poor defense. That second thing cost Andrew Thacker his play-calling duties.

This is still a rebuilding program, a new culture and a new team in many ways that is very different from the GC3 era, but Key has to figure out how to have his guys ready to play their best each week down the stretch. The ceiling has been shown and the floor as well. They have yet to find consistent middle ground week to week.

BC is a team that Georgia Tech should beat, but the question remains will they take care of business and silence critics and doubters and build some momentum for the second half of the season?

After watching UNC for the third time this season, they are really good now with Tez Walker and Drake Maye is not Sam Howell, he is more of a gamer and a tougher QB. UNC's defense is still inconsistent but they are better than the last few iterations. That is going to be a very difficult game. That is as far as you can look or think at this point with the program.

Seeing Miami self-destruct the last two weeks thanks to quality performances by GT and UNC on defense also goes to show how quickly the narrative can change in CFB.

The Canes were a sexy pick to be a better team but the numbers are very funny now when you look at them and compare GT and Miami.

Both teams were 5-7 a year ago.

Cristobal is 3-7 now in ACC play as a HC, 9-9 overall, 0-5 at home in ACC play and 1-4 against ranked teams.
Key is 6-4 in now in ACC play as a HC, 7-7 overall, 1-2 at home in ACC play and 3-2 against ranked teams.

One was a team in "playoff" contention thanks to a soft non-conference schedule and the Tech had fans ready to jump off the bridge after the Bowling Green game. Now the roles have reversed.

That is what makes college football great and crazy at the same time.

Greatest Jacket for every uniform number

My kids are making a homemade book for my father-in-law for Christmas, featuring the best Tech football player for every uniform number, 1-99. The catch is having a photo for each one, so that makes the pre-1950s guys hard to come by. Some of the numbers present impossible decisions, so I'm interested in input from the board. UPDATE ON THIS WEEK’S Q&A

Good afternoon-

This is a rather big weekend for GT football, both on the field and in recruiting.

I expect there will be a lot of questions after tomorrow, so this week’s Q&A will take place on Sunday at 1pm.

I’ll keep the thread open for the entire Falcons game. Should be fun.

If you’ve got any questions you want to ask ahead of time, leave them below ⬇️

FOOTBALL RECRUITING RB commit Trelain Maddox..

hearing RB commit Trelain Maddox left tonight’s game with a non-contact knee injury.

No further information at this time. He is getting tests done on his knee next week, and I’ll have a further update at that time.

The fear, per my sources around the Parkview community, is that he tore his ACL.

He is no longer expected to visit tomorrow.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Rather large 2024 visitor confirmed for this weekend

Eagle's Landing Christian Academy OT Favour Edwin confirmed with me this afternoon that he will be at Georgia Tech this weekend for the game against BC. Many (myself included) believe that Edwin is an Auburn lean, so this development is worth some attention.

I am expecting at least one more OL commit in this class, and would not be surprised at all if there was a second.
