If you can find the kickoff for the Michigan Michigan State game you will be my favorite poster of the day. I have tickets to that game and I really hope I'm not sitting in Spartan Stadium watching our game cut in and out on my iPhone.

This game needs to be win. When is the last time we lost 3 IAR to the Dookies?

This game absolutely needs to be a win. I am going to projectile vomit if we drop three in a row to Duke. This is one of those defenses that plays off the line of scrimmage to put their D-line in better position to defeat cut blocks. If they show that look again, for Buddha's sake just drive block them and move the LOS another two or three yards back from the one yard they are giving you. No releasing to the 2nd level, no cutting, no trickery, just maul them.

Last time we lost 3 straight to Duke was '87 thru '89.

'87 was Ross' first year. The infamous game where Curry's players quit on him and his staff. I recall listening to Big Al interview Ross in the locker room after the game. Ross was in tears and actually apologized to the Tech fans for their poor showing that day. I distinctly recall my Dad and I looking at one another and saying "we've got a winner in this Ross guy to say that". That game was also the one where the Duke students held up a big sign that said "Welcome to the Basement, Tech" or WTTE.

'87 and '88 of course we didn't win any ACC games.

In '89, we had finally strung some wins together and had to go to WWS. Last game we lost until the opener in '91 vs Penn State. Visor Boy and crew tied for the ACC title that year with Virginia. Virginia defeated Duke straight up. Duke defeated Clemson. Visor Boy tried to make a lame point that Duke should be going to the Citrus Bowl as the ACC champ instead of Virginia because Duke beat the defending ACC champs and Virginia did not...though Virginia beat Duke head-to-head and was given the Citrus Bowl invitation.

In '90, we got the kickoff return for TD on Grant Field that broke that tight game open. From then on with a few hiccups along the way, Tech has absolutely dominated the series. I believe the all-time series going back to like 1933 played annually was tied after that Duke win in '89. I'll have to find the game preview thread I submitted back in the summer.

After a three-day break, Georgia Tech's football team hit the practice field on Tuesday to begin preparations for Duke. The break was for the players only according to head coach Paul Johnson.

"We came out of this game pretty good (injury wise)," Johnson said after Tuesday's practice session. "We didn't get anyone seriously hurt we still have some lingering injuries."

Among those battling injuries are starting offensive tackles Andrew Marshall (ankle), Trey Klock (ankle), starting corner Step Durham (reinjured his ankle in the GSU game) and P.J. Davis (hamstring)

"I didn't have any down time. We came in on Sunday and started breaking down Duke and did the same thing yesterday. I went to Macon last night for the Touchdown Club, so we don't have any down time," he said.

The team will practice through Friday and then the Jackets will have the weekend off.

The players of the game were Ricky Jeune (offense), Corey Griffin (defense) and Shaun Kagawa (special teams).

Jahaziel Lee has locked down the starting LT spot "until someone beats him out" according to CPJ. Sounds like he graded out well on the GSU film. He certainly looked athletic and effective at getting to linebackers when working out in space in that game. Also looked good in pass pro. Well done, young man!

And only a true freshman. Maybe one day we will be able to redshirt our OL like other teams.

It's looking like the 2016 class on the OL is going to put us in position to begin redshirting the OL. Kenny Cooper sounds like the real deal along with Braun and Lee. We could be looking at three straight seasons with the same starters at LT-LG-C. That would mean lots of shirts for future classes.

Don't count out them moving Will to center we will know more after spring practice.

I have no doubt the staff will find a way to get the best 5 starting on the line next year, and Will is certainly in the discussion of being one of them!

CPJ wants investment in the program. If we have 10 assistant coaches for the O-Line (2 for each position), will that be enough?

Just finished taking a 2nd look at the GSU game, and my first impression of Jazz Lee was only reinforced. He's got a lock on a starting tackle position for as long as he's here. He's the best CPJ has ever had at that position for this offense - full stop. And Parker Braun had an amazing game - I'm gonna guess Braun graded out better than anyone on the OL since 2014 in this game.

Thought you might find this interesting. The shock jocks at 93.7 FM/680AM, asked CPJ tonight around 6 p.m. what group or entity has been the greatest surprise in these first 7 games? He answered Mills at BBack, followed by the young OL with Braun, Lee and Cooper.

I agree with those surprises by CPJ (and he called me earlier for my opinion of course). ;)

While I won't say it is a "surprise" or one of the bigger "surprises", I want to give a shout out to Brentavious Glanton and Kyle Cerge-Henderson. Both are showing significant progress on the inside of the D-Line. We've got some good'uns near the ball when it's snapped on both sides of the LOS. Just need to keep adding depth. Adams is going to be very good as well.

Adams can be a good one for us . I know CPJ wants him to lose a little weight .

2017...

Offense: 9 starters returning...plus, 20 of the 22 2-deep. Will miss JT5 of course.

Defense: 8 starters returning (and Vic Alexander getting good minutes right now with PJ down)...17 of the 22 2-deep.

We of course lose both specialists, but have highly recruited guys verballed coming in as well as some guys returning who can get the job done potentially.

We trade a cross-division opponent of BC for getting Wake at home. Wake is getting better every year under Clawson (no surprise, he's a good HC), but we should beat them at home. Jax State is a quality D1AA program who will test us much more than Mercer did. JSU is a national title contender at the D1AA level this year (top 3).

2 OOC games away from BDS will be tough - vs Tennessee, who will be replacing a lot of talent, and at UCF, which quite frankly I know little about. Unfortunately, we never seem to beat the Cesspool on Grant Field.

Scott Frost who QBacked at Nebraska has brought a modern offense to UCF. They are improving, although 3-3 with a losing conference record probably indicates we should be able to go down there and win next year. You know the rebuild they need is going to take at least a few years to get their LOS competitive with P5 teams.

GTJT as someone has not followed Tech, and I know your son went there what will Tennessee lose next year.
I hate to lose JT but with all we have coming back I feel very good about next year. This kind of makes me think back to the 1989 season which at this time we were 3-4 and went on the win out ( and beat uga ) Yes I know I have Gold glasses on but I have hope and at my age there may not be too many more seasons.

Tennessee will lose a combination of a few seniors and early entry to the NFL.

Here's a view of their depth chart... http://www.ourlads.com/ncaa-football-depth-charts/depth-chart/tennessee/91993

Both RB's - Hurd and Kamara - are candidates to enter the NFL early. Especially Kamara and I think he'll be special at the next level. QB Dobbs is of course a Senior. Only 1 senior starter on their O-Line, but their OL has not performed well this year and I don't consider it a strength.

Some of the defenders who are juniors may enter the NFL early.

I like Cooper at Center. Believe BAJ knows more about him? Buddy, bail me out and educate us??
He is a physical kid. The biggest complaint about him in HS was that he didn't always work his hardest off the field and sometimes it showed on the field as he would occasionally look like he was going through the motions. Maybe he's matured since then. He has opportunities, hopefully he grabs them and makes the most of them.

I thought I remembered you telling us that. A lot of kids get away with that in H.S., talent alone. Big Bee despised a poor work ethic in practice.

A friend told me how athletic, mobile, Kenny is on the line. Could see him playing all five spots.

Thanks so much for the info. and review!

He has always shown the ability to run for his size. He's athletic for sure. He has potential. Hopefully the coaches will be able to help him make the most of them.

Ok question and I'm not being a smart A&& how do we know when he has only played 1 game? I hope he is a great center but without see him play I can't see it there was an A-back I thought would be a starter this year and he has only played in one game this year . I do think the OL will be in good shape next year but Center is a critical position because I thought they called out the blocking assignments for the OL.

I'm not saying he's the center. Only trying to bring up the possibility after next spring. Andrew Marshall, is probably the favorite.

You've mentioned Will Bryan, who has not played the position even one game.

I tried to tell you fellas about Nate Cotrell and his knee. Lucky to see him again, because garbage time might be scarce, unless it is happening to us.

My comments are all from seeing him play in HS. I agree, we haven't seen enough at GT yet. Center is critical and needs a very smart young man to see the d-lines and call the blocking. .
