FOOTBALL

GT really needs the bye week and Justin Thomas in particular needs some time off for his beat up body. Expect Christian Campbell, TaQuon Marshall and Matthew Jordan to battle this spring at QB. Tim Byerly will be out still if he decides to come back and gets his 6th year and they are going to really limit JT going into his senior year.

B-back wise the staff is really waiting for Marcus Marshall to continue getting stronger and improving his blocking. He is doing extremely well though. The big question is what will happen long term with Marcus Allen and if he has the desire to play football. That is what has held him back sort of like Francis Kallon. How will C.J. Leggett and Quaide Weimerskirch fit in? Dedrick Mills has even more potential in a lot of ways than Marshall.

The A-backs are getting better, Mikell Lands-Davis and Clinton Lynch have really come on and when Qua Searcy comes back next year GT will have a formidable trio there with major big play ability. Broderick Snoddy will make the decision on whether he returns or not, but last I heard he was unlikely to return unless it was for a bowl game. He has broken the same hand twice now.

Wide receiver wise, GT is as talented as they have ever been at that spot. Mike Summers and Ricky Jeune have turned into a nice duo, Brad Stewart is getting better and will be very good when his body develops, but the really interesting pieces are the two redshirt guys. The buzz is that Harland Howell has the chance to be the next Bay Bay, tremendous frame and body and giant hands. Christian Philpott is really skilled as well but needs to become more physical.

Upfront things look good with a nice mix of veterans on the OL. Will Bryan has improved dramatically week to week at OT and his extra work has helped a lot. They get back Chris Griffin next year and maybe Errin Joe plus Eason Fromayan and Jake Stickler. Center with Freddie Burden and Andrew Marshall is good to go leaving the guard position the big question mark. Trey Klock should move to LG and Shamire Devine should continue to improve at RG with Gary Brown, Jake Whitley and Brad Morgan battling for the guard spots.

Defensively things are looking good as well except for the DT spots going into next season. Pat Gamble obviously is one anchor but the staff are very excited about Scott Morgan and Brentavious Glanton. Kyle Henderson should be a Shawn Green type, steady but maybe not spectacular. They would like to get a one-year rental guy like Patrick Skov if they can to bridge the DT gap.

DE wise, GT is pretty loaded up and as those guys get bigger and stronger that should help the young DTs going forward.

Linebackers are getting more talented you can see that with Brant Mitchell and Victor Alexander. You have one more year with PJ Davis as well.

Defensive back wise, A.J. Gray and the young corners are pretty exciting to watch. This group has always been strong for GT and I expect GT to land some nice DBs in the recruiting class.

RECRUITING

Expect an offer to go out to Stratford Academy ATH Quintez Cephus soon. GT likes him as a WR. He is one of a few WR targets GT is looking at to take the final WR spot for the 2016 class. GT is slow playing Jair Hawkins-Anderson but he is around if needed.

GT is working two OLs committed elsewhere. Mill Creek 3-star OL Robbie Bell is the preferred of the two and the other is 2-star Darlington HS OL Patrick Kearns. With Frank Beamer's odds of returning diminishing week to week, Kearns will be in play if Stacy Searels is not retained by the next coach. Expect GT to push both for OVs.

Four-star OL Donavaughn Campbell is still getting worked hard by Alabama and LSU where he is currently committed. GT is waiting to see if he wants to be with his brother or not. Christian is a huge lure but so is playing for LSU. This may roll all the way to NSD.

GT is still looking for some DLs for this class. Jachai Polite and Jordan Woods are floating as SDE/smaller DTs then GT is working on several other DT targets quietly and there are one or two transfer candidates.

Corner wise Troy Pride is pretty interested in GT and ND, VaTech is more of a placeholder right now. Baylen Buchanan is hanging around as well.

GT quietly leads for Niceville (Fla.) safety Romeo Finley. With Al Golden getting canned GT is his best option right now. He is down the board a bit for UF.

Sandy Creek (Ga.) 3-star ATH Korey Banks has been hanging out at GT a lot including attending the last two games. CTR really is hot on him as a CB.

Northridge (Ala.) 2-star DL Jalen Madden visited for the FSU game, but he does not have the grades to get into GT.

BASKETBALL

GT is looking for a point guard and a center to round out the class. BG will use the waiver wire (transfers) if needed to fill those spots.

Team wise, Josh Heath and Travis Jorgenson are battling for the starting PG job, Heath is the early leader and probably who you will see game one in two weeks start. So the starting five would be Heath, Smith, Georges-Hunt, Mitchell and Jacobs with Jackson, White and Jorgenson as the first guys off the bench.

The admin expects BG to finish in the top 8 in the ACC and that will be what is needed along with being on the bubble to buy him more time...
