ATLANTA-- Georgia Tech wrapped up the final practice in full pads for Vanderbilt on Wednesday. Jackets head coach Paul Johnson spoke to the media about how his team has looked so far this week.
"Practice has been okay and the tempo was pretty good today and the attention span," Johnson said.
Johnson and his defense expect a heavy dose of running this week from the Commodores and he wants to see his defense step up and limit what Ralph Webb can do.
"If you don't stop them, they are going to run it every play," Johnson said of Vandy's offense. "It sounds like somebody else we know."
CPJ said the Vandy 3-4 D isn't any different than any other team they face, eagle down, kick down or deuce down, they just execute well.
CPJ said Dedrick Mills has had a good week of practice, wouldn't go so far naming him a starter.
CPJ said he likes Nigel Bowden the other ILB for Vandy.
CPJ said he doesn't care about the ACCCG or where it is, said he doesn't care where it is as long as GT is in it.
CPJ said Omarhi Jarrett is down the line and not in the top seven right now.
CPJ said punting is still up in the air, will be either Ryan Rodwell or Grant Aasen, said Rodwell can kill the ball and sometimes he hits a 15-yarder, wants consistentcy. Said it is funny that Grant's rolled forward so he got a net of 42. Said teams are gonna have a really hard time setting their return guys against GT. Said it is going to be hard on the opposition right now when they punt too. CPJ said Chase Martenson is not in the top two.
Jake Stickler is out with a sprained ankle suffered yesterday. Sounds like Trey Klock is probable, PJ said he practiced today. Said that Will Bryan and Shamire Devine will start at the guard spots and Parker Braun will be the third guard and probably play right guard exclusively. Said they would move Shamire to LG if Will comes out since he is more comfortable at LG than Parker in a game situation if they rotate Will out for a play or series.
