NIT Tournament Thread

The Azteca have an electric crowd behind them against the Huskies. Definitely want Washington to win this one.

Glad we have won two. The word on the street(Bobby Dodd Way/Techwood Ave.), is that the NIT advancement isn't going to sway our AD either way. Win 3, 4 or all 5 games. Money will win or future of program for change wins out. His decision has been made. Respecting the team to wait.

Probably not new, because we heard that last year. This comes from the deliberating being posed as the season plays out whether we end 21-15-final eight or 24-14, NIT Champs.

67-50, looking like the plane lands in San Diego.

At least we are not on a bus trip home.

Probably would be raining in Seattle tomorrow morning, if Huskies had won.

We can expect SDSt to open as around 3.5 pt favorites. Perfect. Tech has been money this year as an underdog.

From what I saw last night SD State is a very good rebounding team, especially defensively. This will be a strength vs strength matchup on the glass. Should be an interesting game in front of a raucous crowd. It's not the big dance, but still fun to be playing games in late March. Go Jackets!

2 NIT games tonight...

St. Mary's at Valpo -- this is the first game this season for St. Mary's outside of the Pacific Time Zone. In fact, last season they only traveled outside the PTZ twice and the results were a win at Creighton and a loss at St. John's. Valpo is 16-2 at home this season. Valpo is laying 4 pts. St. Mary's looks for its 30th win on the season. That's a lot of wins. I don't care who ya are. The WCC got 1 team (Gonzaga) in the NCAAT and they have advanced as the only non-P5 team to the Sweet 16. Might the WCC be undervalued? See BYU below...

Creighton at BYU -- since a Feb. 6 loss to Pacific, BYU has lost just 2 games and they were both to Sweet 16 Gonzaga (by margins of 3 pts and 4 pts). This will be a very tough game for Creighton, who has lost its last 4 games away from Omaha. BYU's 19 thousand seat Marriott Center will be rocking as the Cougs try to win and perhaps cover the 4.5 pts at home and get to the NIT semifinals in NYC.

The winners of tonight's games will matchup against one another in the semifinals at Madison Square Garden a week from tonight, Tuesday March 29.

San Diego State Viejas Arena capacity = 12,414

Reported attendance for last night's win over Washington = 12,414

Last time GT MBB played in the Pacific Time Zone...

2012-2013 season, Tech participated in the Anaheim Classic Nov. 22-25 with the following results...

-win over Rice, 54-36
-loss to California, 68-57
-win over St. Mary's, 65-56

Last time GT MBB played on an opponent's home floor in the PTZ...

2008-2009 season, Tech made a 2-game road trip to California resulting in 1 win and 1 loss...

Dec. 22 at Southern Cal, lost 76-57
Dec. 20 at Pepperdine, won 86-58

(Tech went 12-19 that season...I believe this trip was to honor D'Andre Bell from Los Angeles though he missed that season due to illness...he came back the following season as Tech made the NCAAT during his R-Sr. season)

Congratulations to GT on the great win over the gamecocks. But there is no time to celebrate, this next game is going to be tough after a day travelling. San Diego is going to be a difficult match-up.

They are going to need it against Fisher and Co.

Crack open a can of Valpo. for Ginger. They are moving on to the Garden of Hoopla, after a 60-44 victory over the Saints of Mary.
Speaking of Dogs, isn't this Drew the coach involved in an alleged murder scandal?

St. Mary's had a 31-29 halftime lead and then scored just 13 pts in the 2nd half. Creighton looking good so far at the Mor_ons.

Herrion is one of the better assistants around, IMO. JMU fired its head coach about 10 days ago. I kind of wish they'd give Herrion a look, though I doubt that will happen.

Just a quick update... MGH is now at 1,710 points scored and is now 26 pts shy of Malcolm Mackey's #10 spot in all-time scoring at Tech at 1,736.

With a big night tonight, MGH could get into the top 10. Otherwise, a win and a semifinal game at MSG next week should do it.

Regardless of what happens, MGH is a model S-A for Tech and I will certainly miss seeing him next season.

Side note, trivia nugget for you...

...Malcolm Mackey remains the ONLY Yellow Jacket to EVER start on 2 ACC title teams.

Best wishes to MGH and the team tonight. Excited for them. I expect a close game, I hope they big neb can avoid foul troubles.

The replay is on ESPN U at 2:30 a.m., if any of you have a sleep disorder like me or a DVR.
My Studio 6 dish has had ESPN 2 out for over a week. I'm trying Dave and Buster's, although missing the last 10 p.m. Venom Hunters on Discovery(no replays scheduled for that, although pretty sure I can get invenomated by the female species in the near future). Whoever invented the splitter was brilliant. Two large screens at once, my real love!

Can you believe that the one channel out is that one? Three different HBO's, Four ESPN's....

Edited to say, a brand new suite on Dec. 30th and we are sharing it with a Brown Recluse Spider, who has feasted on our tender skin. Do they have those in Richmond?

Important for the Good Guys to get off to a good start on the road tonight. Has been a whirlwind 72 hours for the team. Go Jackets!!

So much for the good start. Let's see if they can find a way to get some stops and chip into this ealry 10 point lead.

We didn't get the good start but I'm feeling pretty good about this one at the 8 minute TV timeout. I think we can score against this team and we are tightening up defensively.

Glad to see some attempt at defense. The first 10 minutes was pretty sad as SDSU was scoring at will from 2 feet away. These refs are letting the guys play. Need to realize this and adjust. I like it.

One objective for Lammers in the offseason...work on your FT shooting. He has been a nice development this year. We will rely heavily on him next year (and the year after).

Nice comeback by the Jackets. Sign of experience. Didn't fall apart when down 18-8 early. I guess coming back from 18 at the ACCT to win will help your mentality too. :D

Good job, Jackets! Now, take control coming out of the locker room and keep their crowd out of it.

Nice!!

I shied away from +190 in this game after jumping all over +170 against USCe. At the half, I'm kicking myself for being skeered. I like our chances here.

The team absorbed their best punch...perhaps. I wouldn't mind seeing CBG start doubling down low to throw a curve ball to see how SDSU reacts. Having said that, the D was there (nice to see) over the last 10 minutes.
