I think there should be decimals and negative numbers allowed for jersey numbers. Taking numbers out to 2 or 3 decimal places would be a twist that would make boring sports like baseball more interesting. I'd love to see a defensive lineman with number negative 95.
Maybe, just maybe mind you, jersey numbers could change game to game. Perhaps, base them on your key statistics. Or, how many beers you had that week. Johnny Manziel would look great in a 294 jersey. Your key stats for uniform numbers could serve as incentive too. A defensive lineman with 0 sacks gets the number 0 for everybody to see. Shame him into playing better.
And, how about Roman numerals. Especially for those NFL marketing douchebags who think it is so cute to name Super Bowls with X, V, I, and all that baloney. I mean, RGIII complies. Maybe at Tech JT5 should be JTV and your son should be wearing a V jersey. But, most Tech people will not understand and think he's a fan of the Varsity, which would still make some sense.
I think names on the back of jerseys are tired too. I like statements better. Remember She Hate Me (which was poorly formed grammar, but probably applicable for professional football players generally speaking) from the old XFL? What about names on the back of jerseys like "Fartaramous" or "4 Time Felon" or "Currently Transitioning"?
Of course, as long as it has Nike or Under Armour on it and not Russell Athletic, the miserable Tech fashionista morons will be happy. Idiots.
