What will be the biggest advantage of the bye week for us?

KQ- I think it's a chance to heal up. The team is super banged up and guys like Jamal Haynes and LaMiles Brooks need time off to get healthy. Duke has UNC this week in a huge rivalry game so that could be an emotional game for them as well.

- Obviously shotgun is the bread and butter, but why do you think Buster doesn’t have an under center QB sneak package? Seems like it would be right up Key’s alley with the physicality stuff, especially after 4th and short in the gun has had struggles with penetration and either making the wrong read or getting blown up.

KQ- I've never been a fan of that gun/pistol goal line stuff. I like under center and the options that gives you. I feel like they've run under center a couple of times maybe, but that is it.

- Pyron has only run the ball out of his TD vulture package, IIRC. Think we’ll see him throw out of that to keep defenses honest? One of those 4th and 1s inside the 10 could have been a good time to spring that on Louisviile with the O-line issues.

KQ- They definitely will throw it and I would put money on him doing the Tebow duck/jump throw at some point too.

- Not asking you to agree or disagree with game mgmt bc that is subjective. But on the consistency piece, CBK has been all over the map. Go for 4th and 1 at the 16, then 4 plays later kick on 4th and 1 from the 6 was one example. One thing I never expected from Key was waffling. Does it stand out to you or are some of JOL making too big of a deal the last couple weeks?

KQ- I think he hasn't learned to trust his instincts yet and is trying to go off the book but also second-guessing himself. A great example of this was the drive where they kicked the short FG after taking the delay of game. If you are going to take the delay of game there, tell Weston to not snap the ball and go run a freeze play, it was fourth and less than five. Then take the delay of game penalty. That is something you learn from getting more reps coaching the game IMO though. I watched Alex Golesh struggle at times at USF with this and other young coaches in a similar boat to Key running their ship for the first time and even some older guys who truly suck at it like Mario Cristobal. The one area where GT was a little spoiled was having a guy like Paul Johnson as a HC who had 100% believe in what he is was doing and that it would work and was two or three chess moves ahead most of the time. Most coaches are not like that including many with rings like the guy down the road to the East.

I know Key wants to win, and I know as all coaches are, he's stubborn. However, with how Tech has lost games like the Louisville one, do you think Key has the personality to look very hard in the mirror and adjust?

KQ- Absolutely, you've seen him make adjustments both with his coaching style, staff and personnel. The one thing I'll tell you about Key is that he wants to win no matter what it takes. I think he is smart enough and capable of figuring out the things that are his shortcomings and working through that. I think there are some larger issues with this team that go beyond his coaching or his staff as well.

Any idea what the hold up is with Lockett?

KQ- Key said last week he thought Duke (basically saying 2-3 weeks at the time) was the target. Clearly he wasn't bullshitting. Lockett broke something and had a cast on his arm so it is not like he is dogging it to not play.

Louisville’s RT was holding on just about every passing down(some real obvious ones where the rushers shoulder pads were flopped in the air). Refs aren’t going to call it every play, but how can you get them to keep calling it?

KQ- They've got to be on the line judges ass and the players might have to do some flopping or acting to draw some calls unfortunately.

What do we do with Efford on obvious passing downs? He was better in the second half in coverage but has been a weak spot in coverage this year

KQ- I think you can sub him if you want to, but maybe he needs to be the pressure guy or spy in those situations.

Adding this to overreaction video also so please ignore if you answer but going into the bye outside of getting guys healthy, what are the top things that need to be addressed on offense, defense and special teams?

KQ- I'll get into more detail on the video, but the running in the A-gap has been awful, the left side of the OL is really struggling with run blocking. That is pretty much killing the run game on it's own. Defensively they've got to get more pressure on the QB and get some sacks. GT has two sacks in three P5 games this season.

The kicking thing with Aidan Birr is very strange, but he is the third kicker in a row to have some sort of second-year meltdown, Gavin Stewart the guy whose job he took had the same issue last year where he was great in 2022 and then sucked in 2023 and lost his job. Birr was great but inconsistent this year. I don't get it.

We’ve now played 5 games without a single interception from the defense. Is the main cause for that our scheme? Not getting enough pressure to QBs to force errant throws? Seems odd to be almost halfway through the season with so few defensive takeaways

KQ- It is a strange stat for sure. I think the lack of QB pressures as I mentioned above has factored into that a lot and some weird balls that have been tipped haven't gone in the right direction. GT hasn't had a ton of luck with that stuff this year like blocking the kicks at Cuse and those kicks went forward and not backward for scoop and score opportunities. They just haven't had a lot of opportunities for turnovers. They have also played mostly older QBs who don't throw a lot of interceptions. DJU had 7 INTs the previous two seasons as a full-time starter, Kyle McCord threw six last year at Ohio State, Tyler Shough wasn't a full-time starter for whole seasons prior to this year, but has 2:1 TD-INT ratio career and has 8 TDs and 0 INTs this year and the kid at Ga State Christian Veilleux has an 8:1 TD-INT ratio this year after being a 50/50 ratio guy at Pitt, so that hurts. They are going to see QBs who are more turnover prone as the season moves along.

Other than spending a bazillion dollars what has Miami done to become so successful?

KQ- They invested in their line of scrimmage. I was talking to a staffer at USF over the weekend and he said Miami was so much better than Bama in the trenches and he was shocked to see that having seen both teams over the years at multiple stops. That is where Key is trying to fix things, but it is not as easy as snapping your fingers here and doing it. That is why UGA is so good. Kirby spends most of his money on that DL and they go three deep and then typically have a good OL to go with it on the other side.

HOOPS A breakdown and some analysis on Tech's schedule announced tonight...

Here are my early thoughts on Stoudamire and the opportunities in front of the Jackets for 2024-25. I'm high this Georgia Tech team taking another step forward this season. What do you guys think?

HOOPS Schedule release for the 2024-25 season with some tip times

Men’s Basketball’s 2024-25 ACC Schedule Announced

Jackets travel to North Carolina, host Duke in December

Updated Georgia Tech men’s schedule | Season Ticket Information

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s men’s basketball team will open its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule Dec. 7 at North Carolina and host Duke on Dec. 21, the conference office announced Tuesday evening as it unveiled the entire league schedule for 2024-25 live on the ACC Network. The Yellow Jackets have opened their ACC schedule against either the Tar Heels or Blue Devils each of the last three years, and now will face both of the conference’s blue bloods in the month of December for the first time.

Tip times and television coverage for some games, including the home ACC opener vs. Duke, are flexed and will be announced after the beginning of the season.

The Yellow Jackets then resume the conference race in earnest in January, hosting a New Year’s Eve matchup against Notre Dame and a Saturday, Jan. 4 tilt against Boston College before hitting the road for back-to-back games at Syracuse (Jan. 7) and SMU (Jan. 11). Tech also hosts Clemson (Jan. 14) and Virginia Tech (Jan. 22) during the month, and travel to Florida State (Jan. 18) and Notre Dame (Jan. 28).

Louisville (Feb. 1) and new conference members Stanford (Feb. 12) and California (Feb. 15) visit McCamish Pavilion during the month of February, while NC State (March 1) and Miami (March 4) come to Atlanta to close out the Yellow Jackets’ home slate. In between, Tech will visit Clemson (Feb. 4) and Virginia (Feb. 8) back-to-back, as well as Boston College (Feb. 22) and Pittsburgh (Feb. 25) in consecutive road games during the month.

Tech finishes its regular-season campaign March 8 at Wake Forest.

The ACC’s scheduling model for 2024-25 for all teams breaks down as follows:

• Each school will play two games, home and away, versus each of the school’s two current partners (Cal/SMU/Stanford will be partners with each other).

• Each team plays one of the remaining 15 teams twice, both home and away.

• Each team will play the remaining 14 conference opponents once, seven at home only, and the other seven away only.

As announced earlier this year, the top 15 teams in the final league standings will play in the 2025 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament, played March 11-15 at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Tech 2024-25 schedule notes:

· Saturday home ACC games include Duke (Dec. 21), Boston College (Jan. 4), Louisville (Feb. 1), California (Feb. 15) and NC State (March 1).

· Tech’s home-and-away opponents in 2024-25 are Boston College and its permanent rivals Clemson and Notre Dame.

· Including non-conference games, Tech will appear five times on ESPN networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU), 14 times on the ACC Network, and three times on The CW Network.

· Of the three new members of the ACC, Tech has faced SMU the most (8-6 all-time, last meeting in 1986). The Jackets are 0-3 vs. California (last meeting 2012) and 1-2 vs. Stanford (last meeting 2000).

· Tech will open the 2024-25 season with seven consecutive home games, its longest homestand to open a season since 1980-81. After three straight games away from home (Oklahoma, North Carolina, Northwestern), the Jackets will have five more in a row at McCamish Pavilion, including conference tilts against Duke, Notre Dame and Boston College.

· Tech will play 19 regular-season games at McCamish Pavilion, the most since the 2016-17 season, when the Jackets played 21 total home games, including two on the NIT.

SEASON TICKETS REMAIN ON SALE

Season tickets for the 2024-25 campaign for Georgia Tech men’s basketball, the second under head coach Damon Stoudamire, remain on sale to the general public. Tech’s 19-game home schedule for the men includes new conference members California and Stanford, and six home games will be played on a Friday (Georgia) or Saturday (Cincinnati, Central Arkansas, Duke, Boston College, Louisville, California, NC State).

Looking to return the Yellow Jackets to national prominence, Stoudamire re-built the Tech roster last season and guided the team to 14 victories, including big wins over top-25 teams Mississippi State, Duke, Clemson and North Carolina, all of whom played in the NCAA Tournament. Tech has added to its core of Lance Terry, Kowacie Reeves, Jr., Naithan George and Baye Ndongo by signing the 19th-ranked recruiting class in the nation and four incoming transfers.

Season ticket prices start at $290. Season tickets for faculty, staff and letterwinners are $280, and tickets for new alumni can be purchased for as little as $190.

Key is Delusional

First and foremost I love Key and am behind him 100%. However, in his mind he thinks we are this physical, tough line of scrimmage team. “We are nasty in the trenches”. Well we are not. Not even close. This season is not last season. This is not what he wants to hear but we are SOFT.

After tonight he needs to have a real reality check with himself. You can’t speak things into existence. We are not what he thinks we are from a physicality standpoint and he had a really bad day with the headset on.

I love him and am thankful we have him. But today was amateur hour.

UPDATE GT Summer 2024 Athletic Director's Initiative Fund

In the new Summer 2024 Campaign Quarterly report, the big donors have made a statement with their $$. I usually peruse the gifts section to see who's giving to the school and amount. If you check out page 20, you see over $25 Million in contributions this quarter to the Athletic Director's initiative fund. I've never seen this level of contributions before, very impressive. Big hitters like Tom Fanning, John Brock committing $5M each, others like Vance Bell, Gregg Garrett, David Rowland, Bird Blitch, Niles Bolton, Barry Cox, Alan Dorris, Thomas Holder, John Slaughter committing $1M and over. Unprecedented - here's to you fellas and your spouses! Cheers! Here is the link but looks like you can't get to the gifts page:

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Recruiting content for the off week...

I have a few things in the works for this week if they come to fruition (aka some people get back to me).

Also, my plan is to go see OL commit Damola Ajidahun and Duluth host Peachtree Ridge on Thursday (hurricane schedule changes pending) and get an update on him.

Good folks of JOL, I ask that you bear with me on the recruiting stuff. That's all still pretty new to me, and I'm still trying to figure out how to do things to get optimal results. I promise you I'm trying to get plugged in as much as I can so I can be knowledgeable and give you the best inside info I can. My guy Russell definitely set the bar high on the recruiting content. I'm just looking to learn and get somewhere in the vicinity of that bar.

King has 2 Take Over.

Last game in Louisville could have been a Heisman moment. If he has to take over a game then take the game over. If he has to be #1 in rushing then so be it. The goal is to win. It’s his team.

If they clogging the lane pull it & get the extra yard. If they want to put 8 men in the box spin it for 400 yards.

It starts with him. They gonna go as far as he takes them.

Jackets Stay at No. 13 in AVCA Poll

Georgia Tech prepares for ranked matches this weekend in ACC play

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball (8-1) has been ranked No. 13 in the latest AVCA/TARAFLEX Division I Women’s Volleyball Poll, the organization announced on Monday. The Yellow Jackets maintain their place in the rankings following a 3-1 victory over Georgia, on the road, extending the winning streak to eight matches, the longest in three seasons (since 2021).

This poll marks the 75th consecutive Top 25 ranking for Georgia Tech dating back to the 2020 fall preseason poll.

Key to the Yellow Jackets success this season has been their efficiency on offense. Through nine matches Tech boasts a .302 team hitting percentage, the 7th best in the country and the second best in the ACC. Four of Tech’s top offensive players are hitting over .300 this season, led by DeAndra Pierce (.407) along with Liv Mogridge (.380), Larissa Mendes (.351) and Bianca Bertolino (.308).

Bertolino has been making her mark in every facet of the game this season. She has made 112 kills on what is on pace to be a career-best hitting percentage (.308) on top of making an average of .73 service aces per set, the highest average in the ACC and the fifth highest in the nation.

Senior outside hitter Tamara Otene made a name for herself in non-conference action, leading the team with 126 kills (.3.82/set) while also making 108 digs (3.27/set). She is the only Power 4 player to be averaging over 3.75 kills/set and over 3.25 digs/set this season.

Tech is one of seven ACC programs ranked in the Top 25, including both of this weekend’s opponents, No. 23 SMU (Friday at 7 p.m.) and No. 1 Pitt (Sunday at 1:30 p.m.)

UP NEXT

Georgia Tech puts its No. 13 ranking on the line this weekend as the Yellow Jackets begin ACC play. Tech begins the conference slate with a pair of ranked matchups in O’Keefe: Friday at 7 p.m. vs. No. 23 SMU and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. vs. No. 1 Pitt. Both matches have been sold out. The SMU match on Friday will be streamed on ACCNX and Sunday’s battle with No. 1 Pitt will be broadcast on SCC Network.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Full update story on '26 4-star safety Cortez Redding...

It's still early in the cycle, but it sounds like Georgia Tech is one of the contenders for him. He's one of the big metro-Atlanta and state of Georgia prospects in the loaded 2026 class. Jackets need to hit on a guy like this and several others.
