FOOTBALL JOL Opinion POLL: The Current State of FBS / P4 Football

JOL Opinions on the Current State of FBS / P4 Football: Which Category are YOU?

  • Category 1: P4 football is improved & fantastic! UNre$tricted free agency was WAY pa$t due.

    Votes: 6 3.0%
  • Category 2: P4 is what it is. Adapt. Move on. Don't care to debate. Who's our next transfer?

    Votes: 65 33.0%
  • Category 3: "College" football is broken. Ridiculous for "students" to change schools every season.

    Votes: 115 58.4%
  • Category 4: Something else. Post your nuanced opinon below.

    Votes: 11 5.6%

It won't be scientific, but I'm just curious if the opinion "balance" I'm seeing in some JOL threads is really there. I sense there's a plurality of Category 1's, but then again, some JOL members don't post a lot. We'll see.

Select Category 1, 2, 3, or 4.

*** If you choose Category 4, please post an explanation in the thread below.

Thanks,

-StraightJacket (Again)

SATURDAY (December 21st) LATE PM:

Copy/pasted from post below:

So, we’re at the closing time for this poll.

I mentioned this in one of the threads, but the Rival’s poll software only allows a limited number of characters when creating the poll choices. Therefore, I had to be brief when designing this.

I realized that many JOL posters would have overlapping and conflicting opinions about the category options, so I intentionally designed this to gauge the significance of the more “emotional” fan sentiments compared to the practical realities of where college football IS at the present time. “Category 4” was placed in the mix for JOL posters clearly not wanting to pigeonhole themselves into such finite stereotypes.

Now, for a few personal observations:

  • I expected a more even distribution, along a bell curve, with Category 2 being the peak. Obviously, that’s not the case. The threads / posts here on JOL led me to believe that Category 1 was much more prevalent among JOL posters that this poll suggests.
  • Advocates of the various categories were ALL OVER the transfer portal threads yesterday. The rapid growth of those threads speak to the … “popularity” of the topic.
  • @WaCoJacket is clear and concise in expressing the Category 1 point-of-view.
  • @TBuzzIE is equally adept at expressing the Category 2 perspective.
  • Some of the post replies in the transfer threads yesterday … were surprising … or over-the-top … or eye-rolling worthy … or profound … or flat out wrong. THAT … was something to see among this fanbase.
  • One thing is certain: We ain’t clones.
That is all.

FOOTBALL Use your anger

Donate.

Dude is gonna give $200 to Tech today UGA has 16 NFL prospects and we have zero and those men went into hell and almost stole the devil’s golden fiddle.

Imagine what Key could do if we have anywhere near parity.

No ifs or buts. Some of you know $200 for you is a Friday night or two at the bar.

No ****ing excuses anymore. This fan base is not worthy of those men on the field last night. They went into Hell and asked for seconds EIGHT times.

If Carls Jr over in South Carolina can fill their stadium and have NIL money there’s no excuse.

I’m a damn sidewalk fan and you guys are supposedly 1/6 millionaires. Put your money where your mouths have been. Speaking of that, I know where they’ve been because I wasted 1.5 hours of my life this morning reading your threads.

I’m hung over and angry. I want to play those sons of bitches again today. Instead we have to wait a year. Revenge is a dish best served cold. **** them dwags and let’s make sure Tech has even more weapons next time.

A fun look back at the history of bowl games

Network Scoop on Expansion and GT

Gene Williams of Warchant is reporting this as of this morning. That is our FSU site and he is extremely plugged in at FSU.

“The most interesting and shocking nugget that came my way from a well-placed TV insider is that the Big Ten is talking to Georgia Tech. I wanted to discount this because Tech obviously isn’t much of a TV draw and has been on the decline for the past few decades. Apparently, the Big Ten did a deep dive into the numbers, think GT can be relevant again and want to get in the Atlanta/Southeast market. I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that Atlanta is in the heart of SEC country. And Georgia Tech is another AAU school, which would keep the academics in the Big Ten happy.

Let’s assume there is something to this nugget. If there is, what does that mean for Florida State?

- It’s disheartening that Georgia Tech might get a pass out of the ACC before FSU does, but this could be incredibly positive.

- I didn’t get any details on the question everyone wants to know – ‘How does any ACC school leave the conference and avoid financial ruin with the Grant of Rights running through 2036?’ I didn’t get a straight answer on how that could happen but was told that it would get worked out.”

BBQ in Georgia

Morning... Georgia Public Broadcasting filmed a documentary focused on the role of BBQ in Georgia culture, particularly around election cycles... The documentary was filmed at several Georgia based BBQ restaurants (including ours)... I asked KQ if he thought some of y'all would be interested in seeing it...he said he thought you might, so here it is... :)
