ESPN Top 300 Recruiting Rankings for 2023

Was a little bored this afternoon so I was reviewing the 2023 ESPN Top 300 recruits for football. We have always said that all we would have to do is protect our borders and all the talent we need is in the Peach state. While surprised that 27 of the Top 300 were from Georgia I was even more surprised when I saw the breakdown by position:

QB - 1
RB - 2
WR - 1
ATH/WR - 2
TE - 2
T - 4
G - 1

DE - 2
DT - 2
OLB - 2
ILB - 3
CB - 3
S - 2

An entire recruiting class, every position represented except C, K (we could always go for 2) and P (we wouldn't need to punt) :)

ACCSBT: Jackets Fluster Fighting Irish for Upset, 8-1

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Georgia Tech softball (26-26, 7-17 ACC) overpowered host and No. 7 seed Notre Dame (29-17-1, 11-12-1 ACC) for an 8-1 victory in the first round of the 2023 ACC Softball Championship on Wednesday at Melissa Cook Stadium. Keeping the Fighting Irish at bay at the plate, the Yellow Jackets took the lead in the opening frame and steadily pulled away with seven runs over the first four innings.
Senior hurler Blake Neleman (11-10) controlled the game from the circle, holding Notre Dame to just one run on five hits while picking up four strikeouts in her eighth complete game of the season.
Three Yellow Jackets came away with multi-hit days as senior catcher Emma Kauf highlighted the Jacket bats, going 2-for-5 with her team-leading 13th double of the season and 49th of her career. Sophomore outfielder Ella Edgmon turned in a 2-for-4 day from the leadoff spot, and sophomore designated player Emma Minghini was the most efficient bat for the White and Gold going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The basketball schedule usually isn’t out until late summer, but:

- Do we know any games yet that are locked in other than the Diamond Head Classic? Any back end of current home-and-home that are still outstanding?

KQ- So there are like 4 games that are unknown right now. You have the Diamond Head, you have at UGA, you have an SEC/ACC Challenge game probably at home against either SC, Ole Miss, or LSU.

- Any details yet about the SEC/ACC challenge that is starting up to replace the Big 10 one that ended?

KQ- I do not know if it will be in January like the SEC/Big-12 one was or will it be in the more traditional December slot where the ACC/Big Ten Challenge always was.

- How do you think Damon will schedule out of conference? Try to pile up a lot of ’buy game’ wins early or try to get the program into some bigger neutral/road games to get on TV and into the national conversation?

KQ- I have no clue whatsoever what his approach will be for that yet. I have to build that relationship up before I can tell you what his philosophy will be. I've only talked to him a handful of times.

Now that the football roster has been purged can we get a post spring War Room?

KQ- I don't think the purging is complete yet, but yeah I can try to work on something for Friday.

Can’t remember if this has been asked before:

If you had to guess, what are going to be the biggest surprises to fans this FB season? Good/bad.
Could be about the players/coaches/gameday atmosphere/etc. Or all 3. Lol
Based on what you’ve seen/heard so far.

KQ- I think it is impossible to know what the attendance will be like or crowds or anything relating to fans at this point. I think it will be a very traditional GT home game atmosphere at home as Key is very traditional and will lean into the things that GOL, Chan and PJ all embraced with that as you saw once he took over the program. There won't be a lot of nonsense.

I’m a stud 4-star Rivals football player. In a given week I may talk to 15-20 coaches (probably another 30-40 via my coach) texting, calling, or social media. Then I drop a top 10…then a top 5…then go on OVs to 4 of them and take a 5th OV somewhere random…then I schedule a hat show on ESD…then I sign.

How does the communication and messaging with the coaches recruiting me change for me during each step of this process?

KQ- paging @Russell Johnson

One of these days on JOLTV can we get you and whiskey chef doing a bourbon and food show and have him tell some old war stories?

KQ- Would love to do that. We both have complicated schedules so we barely see each other right now, but I'll try to hook that up this summer. I think that could be interesting.

Also when is the next JOL lunch/cocktail hour?

KQ- I'm trying to work up something super cool that I've been working on for a few weeks that would be a really interesting event. Just have to pull it together. It would be over the summer.

OT: Falcons 2023 Offseason Thread

Starting a new thread since the 2022 season is done and we are heading into draft/offseason stuff leading into 2023.

Today is notable because today by 4 we will know what kind of tag the Ravens are going to use on Lamar. I still don't think the Falcons would go after him if the Ravens use the non-exclusive tag, but I have been wrong many times before.

BASEBALL Reid Named ACC, National Player of the Week

Stephen Reid hits .600 with four home runs in weekend against Pitt

THE FLATS – Junior right fielder Stephen Reid (Garwood, N.J./Governor Livingston) was lauded both nationally and by the Atlantic Coast Conference for performance last week, earning ACC and Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of the Week honors, it was announced Monday.

In a crucial ACC series against Pitt, Reid was red-hot at the plate, mashing four home runs, including a program-record-tying three on Sunday in the 15-3 series-clinching win. Overall, he hit .643 for the weekend, recording nine hits and a double for 10 RBI, scoring seven times himself.

He compiled a gaudy 1.571 slugging percentage and reached base at a .643 clip, striking out just one time in 14 at-bats over the three-game series. The Garwood, N.J., native also added a highlight worthy diving catch in right field to help keep the Panthers off the scoreboard.

Reid and the Yellow Jackets will now head out on the road for five straight games, beginning on Wednesday, May 10 against Kennesaw State. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

FOOTBALL NFL DRAFT DISCUSSION THREAD - Last Prediction/Hopes for Falcons

If Wilson is there, that’s my pick. If not, I try to trade down to the 10-14 range, get another second rounder (in this draft or future) and take Bijan going all in on surrounding Ridder with talent and continuing or ground based game. Got talked into believing in Robinson to Atl the last few weeks.
