FOOTBALL Player Interview Notes and Quotes 11/1

We talked to Kyle Kennard, Haynes King and Malik Rutherford today ahead of the UVA game

Both Kyle and Malik talked about there being a chip on their shoulder with this game because the loss to UVA was probably the game that cost them bowl berth last year and it was a funky one with the injury to Jeff Sims and the offense being so bad with Zach Gibson trying to come in for him. They lost 16-9 and that was the Cavs lone conference win last year.

"I'd be lying if I said some game you don't have an extra chip with you and this is one of those games. We are looking to come out and dominate," Kennard said.

"I'd be lying is I said no," Rutherford said when asked if they owed UVA one from last year. "We go into every game with the mindset to just win and we want to go up there and win."

Coach Key went into the dining hall on Tuesday and had them turn off the TVs in there that were playing the UNC game on replay. He was making a very loud point about not living in the past and focusing on the goal this week.

Kennard said the scene on the field after the game was surreal and he had his baby son with him and he had never been apart of something like that.

Kennard said that Coach Key has done a great job with load management this week for their bodies and getting the right mix of rest and prep for UVA.

Kennard said that UVA is a great team with a very perimeter-oriented offense and they want to get the ball out and let their guys make plays and runs after the catch and contact.

Kennard said they've really been preaching consistency on all sides of the ball this week.

Kennard said they are working a lot of guys at DE now and he feels like they are all good enough to play, they should continue getting better with more playing time.

Rutherford said it was great getting the screen game working and getting to show off his God-given abilities and making plays in space to get the team going.

Rutherford said he can see the confidence growing in Haynes King every week and he has been playing well and getting locked in.

Rutherford said the two-point conversion play is something they put in a few weeks ago and had been working. He actually didn't think it would work as well as it did and he thought he would have to do more to convert it than he did.

Rutherford said that Coach Key in the huddle today had a couple of guys on the team talk about consistency and putting out a consistent product on the field and how that is not easy to do but it is the thing they are working on and they don't want to keep going win/loss, they want to win every game left on the schedule.

Rutherford said they have to maintain the same mindset every day and just keep working and not take plays off and that has been a point that has been stressed a lot.

I asked Rutherford if he spoke with Nate McCollum and if he took any satisfaction in his performance vs Nate's head-to-head on Saturday and he said they talked before the game and he hopes Nate balls out there, but he got the better end of the stick on Saturday. It wasn't Nate's game.

King said it felt good to get all the national accolades but at the end of the day he has to focus on playing a tough Virginia team this week at Virginia.

King said the screen game against UNC really built the rhythm for the whole offense and it opened up the run lanes and wore out their defense running sideline-to-sideline instead of just north and south and that wore out their pass rushers too and that got the offense going.

King said that Saturday's game showed how good the offense can be when it is clicking and now they have to learn how to be consistently good like that and execute it. That has been the whole focus of practice this week.

King said in the wins they've taken turns making plays on all sides of the ball and in the losses they've taken turns making mistakes and it all comes down to consistency doing your job and that is what football is about at this level, do your job and execute and then make the play.

King said that UVA on tape is a great team and they do not have a lot of busts. They play fast and physical and in the last two weeks they beat UNC and took Miami to overtime by controlling the LOS.

King said that Brett Seither is a great guy and he works hard and he has a great feel for space and how to get open and his knowledge of the game and how to work filling in open areas is why he is so successful in the red zone. He also accelerates well in man coverage.

King said his biggest area of growth has been in leadership and being vocal with it. He said he still needs to be more vocal and he also needs to be more accurate with his throws and that starts with his feet and those are the two main things he is working on.

I asked him about the OL play and he said they just keep getting better every week and they area handling different looks each week and stunts, blitzes and twists and the communication is the biggest part of that. He said that Geep Wade is a heckuva OL coach and they have a good plan each week.

King was asked about getting too up after a big win and he said that in his experience fans will turn on your quick when you lose so you learn to appreciate the pats on the back, but the only thing that really matters is the opinion of the people in this building, the coaches, teammates and staff and you have to ride the wave and when you think it is bad just remember that the sun is gonna rise and the birds are going to chirp and you have to move on from adversity and how you respond to adversity is how good you are going to be as a man and as a player.

King said one thing he learned from his dad being a coach is to never underestimate an opponent and always be prepared and he has that mindset every week because that is how he was raised.

King said that was his third field rushing situation on Saturday and the other two were at TAMU and he said this one was pretty sweet.

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech prepares for its first season of men’s basketball under head coach Damon Stoudamire, hosting Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, for a 7:30 p.m. exhibition game Wednesday night at McCamish Pavilion.

The Yellow Jackets welcome back four starters, representing four of its top five scorers from the 2022-23 squad that went 15-18. The Panthers are coming off an 8-20 campaign. There is no television or radio coverage for Wednesday night’s game.

Looking to return Tech to national prominence, Stoudamire brings the experience of 13 years as a successful NBA player, 10 years of coaching experience on the collegiate level and four years on the NBA level. He has added a five-player transfer class that has been ranked No. 17 in the nation by 247Sports and four talented freshmen to the roster for 2023-24.

Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets is 6-6 junior guard Miles Kelly (Stone Mountain, Ga.), who led Tech in scoring (14.4 ppg) and three-point shooting (.379) and set a team record for free throw percentage (.898). Also back is 6-3 senior guard Lance Terry (College Park, Ga.), who averaged 10.1 points and connected on 38.8 percent of his three-point attempts, 6-6 junior guard Dallan “Deebo” Coleman (Memphis, Tenn.), who averaged 9.5 points and 2.9 rebounds, and 6-3 senior point guard Kyle Sturdivant (Norcross, Ga.), who is back for his fourth season on the Flats after averaging 8.6 points and leading the Jackets in assist average (3.3 per game).

The transfer class includes 6-4 sophomore guard Amaree Abram (Port Arthur, Texas) from Ole Miss, 6-7 senior forward Tyzhaun Claude (Goldsboro, N.C.) from Western Carolina, 6-11 senior center Ebenezer Dowuona (Accra, Ghana) from NC State, 6-9 sophomore forward Tafara Gapare (Wellington, New Zealand) from Massachusetts and 6-7 junior guard Kowacie Reeves, Jr. (Macon, Ga.) from Florida. All the transfers except Gapare have significant starting experience at the previous schools, and Gapare played in 30 games as a freshman.

The freshman class is led by 6-9 forward Baye Ndongo (Mboro, Senegal) and includes 6-3 point guard Naithan George (Toronto, Ontario), 6-6 forward Ibrahima Sacko (Conakry, Guinea) and 6-9 forward Ibrahim Souare (Conakry, Guinea).

Wednesday’s game marks the second meeting between the two schools in men’s basketball. The Jackets escaped with a 71-68 overtime decision over the Panthers in an exhibition game on Nov. 5, 2010 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

PRE-SEASON STORYLINES

· Well-known throughout the basketball world for his success as a player and coach at the collegiate and professional levels, Damon Stoudamire was named the 15th head coach in Georgia Tech men’s basketball history on March 13.

· Stoudamire has assembled a coaching staff that includes three assistant coaches with college backgrounds (Karl Hobbs from Rutgers, Terry Parker, Jr., from UAB, Pershin Williams from Kennesaw State, whose teams all played in the post-season in 2023), one from the G League Grand Rapids team (Nate Babcock) and a former longtime NBA player who was the head coach at Lemoyne-Owen the last two seasons (Bonzi Wells).

· Georgia Tech (15-18, 6-14 ACC) won six of its last eight regular-season conference games and its first-round game against Florida State in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, a remarkable turnaround after the Yellow Jackets stood 8-15 overall and 1-12 in the ACC on Feb. 4.

· Five of Tech’s newcomers are guards and wings, including 6-4 sophomore Amaree Abram (8.0 ppg at Ole Miss), 6-9 sophomore Tafara Gapare (3.4 ppg at Massachusetts), 6-3 freshman Naithan George (Toronto, Canada), 6-7 junior Kowacie Reeves (8.5 ppg at Florida) and 6-6 freshman Ibrahima Sacko (Conakry, Guinea). The Jackets lost just one guard who played significant minutes (Deivon Smith transferred to Utah).

· Stoudamire totally rebuilt the frontcourt, which lost undersized, but productive 6-7 center Ja’von Franklin, by signing 6-7 graduate senior Tyzhaun Claude (15.4 ppg, 8.6 rpg at Western Carolina) and 6-11 Ebenezer Dowuona (1.7 ppg, 1.9 rpg at NC State) out of the transfer portal and adding a pair of freshmen in 6-9 Baye Ndongo (Mboro, Senegal) and 6-9 Ibrahim Souare (Conakry, Guinea).

· 109th season - Georgia Tech will play its 109th season of basketball in 2023-24, having compiled an all-time on-court record of 1,437-1,305 (22 wins and one loss from the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons were vacated by the NCAA Committee on Infractions).

· Tech in the ACC - Tech will play its 45th season as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, having won the conference championship in 1985, 1990, 1993 and 2021. Prior to that, Tech competed in the Metro Conference for three seasons from 1975-78, was an independent from 1964-75, and was a member of the Southeastern Conference for 32 years from 1932-64, winning one title in 1938.

· Tech has finished higher than its pre-season media projection six times in the last seven years, and have been projected to finish 13th in 2023-24.

· Tech’s four returning scholarship players - Miles Kelly, Lance Terry, Deebo Coleman and Kyle Sturdivant - accounted for 59.4 percent of the Yellow Jackets’ points and 56.5 percent of the minutes during the 2022-23 season. They collectively shot 35.6 percent from three-point range.

· Tech’s five transfers combined to average 37 points and 17.2 rebounds per game last season at their previous schools. They have combined to play in 263 games in their careers, and have made 116 starts.

I Apologize!

Apparently it’s my fault y’all, and I apologize it took me this long to figure it out. Every home game I have attended this season (Bowling Green and BC) we lost. The home games I did not attend (tonight against UNC and vs SC State which I attended to start but left during the long delay, therefore I did not watch the game) we won. So it’s obvious we only win home games I do not attend! Clearly, I will not be attending any more home games this season. You’re welcome.

Go Jackets!

GT Golf: Jackets Topple Florida in East Lake Cup Consolation

No. 5 Yellow Jackets get wins from Tai, Lamprecht in 2-1-2 victory

Tech Schedule and Results | East Lake Cup Leaderboard

By Taft Gantt

Johns Creek, Ga.
- Two match victories proved to be just enough to give fifth-ranked Georgia Tech a 2-1-2 victory over No. 20 Florida in the consolation match Tuesday and secure the Yellow Jackets a third-place finish at the ninth annual East Lake Cup.

Sophomore Hiroshi Tai (Singapore) was able to get the first point for the Yellow Jackets with a 2&1 victory over the Gators’ Tyler Wilkes. Tai and Wilkes were knotted through the 12th hole, but Tai won the 13th with a par to go 1-up, and 15 with a par to go 2-up, and held on. Senior Christo Lamprecht (George, South Africa) followed suit shortly after closing out Ian Gilligan, 4&2, his second match win in the event. He never trailed against Gilligan, clinching the match with a par at 16.

Down one hole heading to 18, senior Bartley Forrester (Gainesville, Ga.) birdied the par-5 18th to tie the match with Matthew Kress and give Georgia Tech the half point. Freshman Carson Kim (Yorba Linda, Calif.) tied his match with Parker Bell to confirm the overall contest victory for the Yellow Jackets. Luke Poulter finished off the freshman stroke play medalist Kale Fontenot (Lafayette, La.), 2&1, for the Gators’ only full point.

The win avenged a 3-2 loss to the Gators at the NCAA Championship last May, and allowed Georgia Tech to head into its offseason with a win after falling in its semifinal match to top-ranked North Carolina, 3-2, Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets return to action in February.

THEY SAID IT

“I think they showed up after the disappointment from yesterday. It was a long day. Had a chance to win that match and play for the title today, but they all kind of geared themselves up as the last day of the fall. I was happy with how everybody played.”Head coach Bruce Heppler on Tech’s rebound from a disappointing loss to North Carolina

“It's always nice to have a home crowd and a golf course that you're familiar with. It just kind of eases you up a little bit.” – Christo Lamprecht on playing in Atlanta

“These are really good teams we're playing against, so I think we can use it as motivation to keep working hard in the offseason, and hopefully, come April, May or June, we'll be ready and play a bit better next time.” – Hiroshi Tai on the experience

The Good, Bad & Ugly - UNC

Freaking awesome. What a win. Crowd and atmosphere was great and we played for 60 minutes. Lots of recruits there to see as well. Now we have to find a way to win two in a row and not continue the roller coaster that we have been on this year. All of the white and gold is ready to turn the corner.

The Good:
- offense, offense and more offense
- looks like Keys talk with Buster about running it more worked
- Haynes King, Dontae Smith, Malik, Singleton, Seither, OL and more
- Fought until the end, showed toughness to not quit once got down at beginning and in 4th qtr
- Defense getting a stop thanks to a great play by Harvey

The Bad:
- not a fan of the semi-squib kicks

The Ugly:
- not going to say much because a win is a win but the Defense is still a mess. Still several plays where we can’t get lined up and kids don’t know where to go. At this point I expect several moves on the defensive side of the ball after the season.

Weird stat on CFB this season

For the first time since 2012, no one has been fired or resigned based on performance by November 1.

We go into the House of Horrors as a 2 point dog.....

I actually love that we are the underdog in this game. My head tells me the horror show continues on Saturday and we lose a heartbreaker, but my heart says we break the curse in C'ville. What say you?? If I had to bet right now.....

House of Horrors 31
Jackets 28

Please be wrong......
Go Jackets!

Funny…ACCN Huddle crew on the students rushing the field

I always enjoy the ACCPM/Huddle crews throughout the week….just a good bunch of personalities. Plus, they give a lot of love to Brent and the direction of the program. Their interview with JBatt on the Tech Lawn Friday night was fantastic as well. Lots of good pub for GT this week and they spoke well of Atlanta.

Last night after our game The Huddle crew was on their ACCN stage watching the students storm the field….and Eric MacClain, Eddie Royal, EJ Manuel were laughing their butts off. Kelsey Griggs made a comment that students were jumping down, but needed to be more careful…as the video showed countless male students collapsing to the ground, not being able to stick their landing…and then the running was, well, quite the sight and some were stumbling to the ground. :)

EMac and Eddie could not stop laughing…EMac said “I am sorry….I have just never seen anything like this”….and Eddie follows with “It’s just….I have never seen so much ‘un-athleticism’ before.” Kelsey said “guys….stop it…be nice”.

It was all playful and good natured….and accurate. I was thinking the same thing as I watched at the game….I just did not see the post game show until today. 😂😂😂

FOOTBALL Fusile Named Burlsworth Trophy Nominee

Georgia Tech offensive lineman up for award for second-straight year

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech offensive lineman Joe Fusile (Richmond Hill, Ga./Richmond Hill H.S.) is on the official list of nominees for the 2023 Burlsworth Trophy, which was announced on Tuesday. The Burlsworth Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding player in college football who began his career as a walk-on.

Fusile, who came to Georgia Tech as a walk-on in 2021 and earned a scholarship after appearing in 10 games and making eight starts at guard as a redshirt freshman in 2022, has established himself as one of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s top offensive lineman this season. He has started all eight games at left guard for the Yellow Jackets this season and is rated as the 12th-best run-blocker and 13th-best pass-blocker in the Atlantic Coast Conference by Pro Football Focus (fourth-best run-blocker and seventh-best pass-blocker among ACC guards).

The 6-foot-6, 302-pounder helps anchor a Georgia Tech offensive line that leads the ACC and is ranked eighth nationally in fewest sacks allowed with just seven in eight games (.88 per game). He and the Jackets’ offensive front have not surrendered a sack in 4-of-8 games, while also paving the way for Tech to rush for more than 300 yards twice this season. Last Saturday in a 46-42 win over No. 17 North Carolina, Fusile and Georgia Tech’s offensive line did not allow a sack and helped the Yellow Jackets roll up 635 yards of total offense (Tech’s most ever in an ACC game), including 348 on the ground (246 in the fourth quarter alone).

An electrical engineering major and member of the ACC’s academic honor roll, Fusile is a Burlsworth Trophy nominee for the second-straight season.

Three finalists will be selected from the list of 73 nominees and the 14th Burlsworth Trophy will be presented on Dec. 4 in Bentonville, Ark.

Fusile and the Yellow Jackets (4-4, 3-2 ACC) return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Virginia. The game will be televised across the nation on The CW (Peachtree TV – Ch. 17 in Atlanta).

Tyler Announces The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week

TYLER, Texas – Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King has been named The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the ninth week of the college football season.

mail

King accounted for 377 yards of total offense and four touchdowns to lead Georgia Tech to a 46-42 win over No. 17 North Carolina. The Yellow Jackets’ quarterback completed 23-of-30 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed eight times for 90 yards, including a 52-yard run in the fourth quarter that set up his game-winning five-yard touchdown pass to tight end Brett Seither with 4:28 to go in the ballgame.

King led Georgia Tech to scores on seven of its final nine possessions of the game (not including a kneel-down at the end), including three straight touchdown drives of 75 yards or more in the fourth quarter. His 377 yards of total offense were the 11th-most in Georgia Tech history, while his 76.7 completion percentage was the second-highest in school history for a passer with at least 30 attempts. King became the second quarterback in Tech history to throw at least four touchdown passes three times in a season, joining Joe Hamilton in 1999, who did it three times en route to finishing second in voting for the Heisman Trophy that year.

Haynes King is a graduate of Longview High School in Longview, Texas.

FOOTBALL King Adds Walter Camp Player of the Week to List of Accolades

Tech QB brings home another prestigious national award

THE FLATS –Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King (Longview, Texas/Longview H.S.) added another recognition to his long list of accolades this week when he was named the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

In its 20th year, the Walter Camp National Player of the Week awards are the nation’s longest-running player of the week awards.

King amassed 377 yards of total offense (287 passing, 90 rushing) and threw for four touchdowns while leading Georgia Tech back from four different double-digit deficits in a 46-42 victory over No. 17 North Carolina last Saturday. He completed 23-of-30 passes, good for the second-highest single-game completion percentage in Tech history (.767 – min. 30 attempts). His final pass of the night was a 5-yard touchdown to tight end Brett Seither (Clearwater, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic H.S.) with 4:28 to go in the ballgame that capped a 22-point fourth quarter and proved to be the game-winner.

For the season, King leads the ACC in touchdown passes (21) and points responsible for (18.2/game) and ranks second in the league in total passing yards (2,122) and total offense per game (323.0). He ranks among the top 10 nationally in touchdown passes, total offense and points responsible for. He is one of only two players in the country this season with at least 2,100 passing yards, 450 rushing yards and 20 touchdown passes (joining LSU’s Jayden Daniels) and is only the second ACC player since 2000 to post those numbers in his team’s first eight games of the season (joining Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, who went on to win the Heisman Trophy in 2016).

Earlier this week, King was named the Davey O’Brian Award National Quarterback of the Week, the ACC Quarterback of the Week and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week (which recognizes the week’s top player that plays in, or is from, the state of Texas).

He is also in contention for the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week, as the top vote-getter in fan balloting will determine which of this week’s eight Manning Stars will be named the winner. To vote for King, click HERE. Voting closes on Thursday at 10 a.m. ET.

King and the Yellow Jackets (4-4, 3-2 ACC) return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Virginia. The game will be televised across the nation on The CW (Peachtree TV – Ch. 17 in Atlanta).

Why the hell has Dontae not been playing??!???

KQ- He was not healthy. He was unable to practice for a bit of time as well.

4-4 just like we all drew it up lol.
What does that win, atmosphere and the fan/student interaction postgame do for the program as a whole?

KQ- I think hopefully it will draw more fans back into BDS. That is what is needed right now. They need to get back to 40k somehow without it being a bunch of away fans. I think the students hopefully will show up again for Cuse. UGA is hard because school is out so that one I give them a pass on.

It was cool seeing how excited everyone was including J Batt after the game.

Also, I’m feeling like a win in Cville could be a corner turning game for the Key era. Do you and others in the know feel that way?

KQ- It is a little early for true turning points, but I think getting to a bowl game would really push back on the people on the fence and those who disliked the Key hire. GT is a funny place where each of the last many coaching hires has been dogged by a portion of the fan base instead of just getting behind the person for a few years. Collins shockingly was one of the few that united things more except for the CPJ lovers and we saw how that unfolded.

For Kelly:
Do you think we sub too much on defense? It seems like a lot of the time we’re running guys off late which causes everyone to get the play late.

KQ- They are trying to match up a lot on D and yes they are probably subbing too much, but it is a tough give and take.

So do you think most of the defensive staff will be gone in 2024?

KQ- As much as you all want to bitch about the staff, it is also in large part a talent/development issue. I've spoken extensively about it. Go watch the last YouTube live, I broke it down pretty clearly as to why they are in the spot they are defensively and the issues. You can't ask DBs to cover guys for 8 seconds and you can't rush the passer with basically one true pass rusher in the game, but injuries and shitty personnel decisions put them there. The LB situation has been something I've spoken about literally since Collins first season. He did nothing to fix it long-term and made it worse honestly.

How much will the fine be for storming the field?

KQ- That is a league-to-league thing, I believe the ACC still has no policy to fine teams for that. Clemson storms the field every home game they win. I guess you have never been up there before for a game.

do i bet on uva next week considering our track record against disgustingly bad teams this year

KQ- I mean you win if GT wins and you win money if UVA wins, so why not.

More questions about defense.

I’m not trying to bitch, I’m just genuinely curious about why calls are coming in so late. I don’t watch much football outside of Tech, so I don’t know if it’s common or not.

Whose job is it to get those in?

KQ- Well it is not the former DC. It is Kevin Sherrer's job to call it and then they have guys who signal the plays. As to the issues, this seemed very specific to UNC and is something I'll ask Brent about tomorrow.

Might be a couch coach question (@ibeeballin) but are our secondary issues more about people not knowing their assignment in zone? Or not able to keep up with their man?

I'm glad we won, but unc had receivers wide open all game. Even with the apparent lack of talent, their guys shouldn't be THAT open that often.

KQ- Generally my take on it is you can't cover for 6-8 seconds and when you have to clean up the run game because the DL and the LB can't control the LOS you start looking into the backfield and you lose your man. The lack of pass rush and the run stopping issues are putting tremendous pressure on the backend. It is like plugging leaks in a boat, you plug one and it opens up another.

If our stadium is more than half red and black at the end of the season, do you think JBatt/Tech has to look into a way to make that game non-transferable/ lock UGA fans out of buying that ticket?

KQ- Yes

How does it work when you have a 6th yr senior like Dontae on the academic side? I'm sure they still have to take classes but is there the progress towards a degree rule still in place?

KQ- It is pretty simple, once you have a degree you can pursue another secondary undergrad degree in something, you can enroll in grad school if accepted or you can even pursue a certificate in an area of study like a minor basically. Most of the kids are not grad students, they just work on another degree or certificate.

Does the site see a discernible uptick in engagement / posts in weeks following a W? (or do visits drop off after an L).

KQ- Depends on the game, usually there is more engagement after a loss. It has always been that way at every school I've covered including the one to the East.

How late was the ACC brass up trying to rework schedules and take GT off the UNC opponents list moving forward?

KQ- I'm sure Bubba was working the phones on that one.

CBK said this week he had a private talk with Donte but that is all will say about that. Will we ever know what has kept him from playing.

KQ- No because Dontae declined to talk about it and mentioned their private talk as well. Key will respect his privacy. It was not anything earth-shattering.

is there any point in playing Leo this late? Would we get more out of greyshirting him for this year? you haven’t indicated that he is getting any better or that he is close to coming back

KQ- You aren't greyshirting him, a greyshirt is a recruit who postpones his enrollment into college until the following Jan or summer. He could seek a medical redshirt if he does not play to get this year back. That is what you are asking and he would get it given the severity of his two knee injuries.

I have indicated that he is close to being ready actually. I just don't know what the up and down sides are of playing him and that is something Key, Leo and his family will discuss if/when he is cleared.

What’s the deal with Seither’s eligibility? He’s listed as a redshirt junior but I remember there was some confusion about it. His bio on the team site says he has two years of eligibility but the Tech website is never reliable. Is this last year or does he have 1 more?

KQ- My understanding is he has two years left if he wants to use it. They are not sure if he wants to use it or not.

Two questions CPJ related:

1) can you ask coach his thoughts on the unc win, if you haven’t already asked him?

KQ- Sure I can shoot him a text. If he is up in the mountains his phone doesn't work too well so it is easier to text with him.

2) can you ask coach if he had any thoughts/feelings from the crowd support when they honored him on the fields? I thought the response from the crowd was very positive.

KQ- I told CPJ I was going to catch up with him after the season and do a deep dive.

I get that the defense is what it is, but do you remember an offense that was this different game to game?

KQ- Well the last game before UNC they were missing three of the 4 top receivers, no Leo, no real Chase Lane and no Singleton. King struggled and forced the ball and they lost. This game he got into a rhythm with the screen game, that opened up some running lanes for Jamal Haynes and Dontae Smith and then they had some balance and it was rolling. They are thin and when they can run the ball they play well and when they don't they will have to lean too much on King and it will take him playing really well to keep them in it.

So we all bitched about Key’s performance at home and he took it personal….Can we do the same this week and talk up how horrible we are in Charlottesville?

KQ- Brent knows the history of that place very well.

What happened with the super early season ticket renewals?

They sent an email a week before the 19th, and then again 2 days before the 19th to remind everyone.

KQ- No clue, but if I were J Batt, I would be sending them out right now before the UVA game.

Can we PLEASE petition to have Wes and Hasselbach call CoFH since it’s on the ACCN this year??? Much better than that <redacted> SEC network Dan Orlovsky…

KQ- Man I would be shocked if it was the ACC Network night game. It has been a noon game every year since 2013. The 2010 game was the last time it was a night game 7:45 on ESPN and 2009 was the last time it was a home night game 8 pm on ABC.

What's your read on our ability to get some of the Sparty DL now in the transfer portal?

KQ- It depends on who goes in the portal. I think that window is closing or has closed for the kids to go in mid-season. I'll be curious to see what happens in December when the portal opens again.
