Will LaMiles be 100% to start the season? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it was mentioned last season he was dealing with shoulder issues/injury.

KQ- LaMiles was good to go through all of the spring ball. He is about two years out on the most serious aspect of his shoulder issues. He had barely been able to lift upper body weights in his time at Georgia Tech prior to this past offseason. As far as I have heard he is a full go.

Do you envision us having two 1,000+ yard rushers in both Jamal Haynes and Anthony Carrie next season?

KQ- Probably not, I am unsure if that is how this plays out. I think if you have two 1k guys it will be a RB probably Jamal Haynes and Haynes King. If King focuses on maximizing his run opportunities he can get there. He ran for almost 600 yards in the final eight games of the season and that included his worst game against Clemson where he had -3 yards rushing overall. If he just takes what is there in front of him more often, he can get to 1k. I think the RB splits will look a little different and Jamal may go up in all-purpose yards and down a hair in rushing.

Is Carrie going to up and running by the time August rolls around?

KQ- Is he hurt? That is news to me. They didn't showcase him in the spring game for scouting purposes. That is a huge difference.

is there anyone else not 100% that will be playing in Ireland?

KQ- Of the guys who missed the spring, Sylvain Yondjouen and Keylan Rutledge are both back. I saw Keylan running around at the last GT OL/DL camp and he looked like he was in a great shape. Shymiek Jones is supposed to be back as well. Out of the other spring injuries, not sure on Nacari Ashley but I assume his isn't a big injury. The only guy I know is out for the year right now is Jackson Long the TE who tore his ACL in spring ball. I have not heard nor have I done much digging to see if anyone else is hurt. Trelain Maddox might be back toward the tail end of the season depending on how his rehab comes along. They will have to work him up slowly via scout teams or something like that in the season if they want to get him on the field. The players love him and the staff are excited about his future too.

Which freshmen are looking good in workouts/OTAs?

KQ- Well I'll stick to the newbies who came in this summer since that is more to your point. David Prince and Uche Iloh are the two that I've heard the most about. Other guys I have not seen or heard much about yet, but I also have been a little busy.

% on petty landing with the jackets?

KQ- Above 10%, below 100%

Will Big Red be 100% recovered grom his car accident to participate in Summer Worky?

KQ- He is already cleared.

HUDL/Rivals Question

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere. When I click on the player and get the rivals page about the player I’ve always been able to see their HUDL highlights when presented. Now when I click on the HUDL link I get 3 seconds of the video and then it moves to something else from Rivals, a picture of another player or camp. Am I the only one that this is happening to and is there a solution?

OT: NYC short trip

heading up to to NYC with my Yankees fan Father in Law for Braves/Yankees Friday night and Saturday night. Flying in tomorrow (landing late morning) and coming back home Sunday morning.

Not a ton of time to get shit done or eat a bunch of different food, especially with dinner both nights being at the stadium. That said, my only goal is to get to Johns Pizza on Bleecker street. If you all had a similar short window of time (Friday afternoon and Saturday morning/afternoon), how would you spend your time in the city?

FOOTBALL RECRUITING The latest on Georgia Tech's renewed push for Rivals250 QB Antwann Hill Jr.

I am not here to get everyone's hopes up, but from talking to sources over the last few days, Georgia Tech has quickly inserted themselves right into the thick of things. His family wants him close to home, and from what I have been told each member of the Hill family who made the trip was impressed by what they saw and heard.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Russell's Ramblings, pres. by MyPerfectFranchise.net: Perfect Class 2.0

I'll be doing a Q&A later today to answer questions for 30 minutes or so. Be on the lookout for that.

New York DT Blake Belin would likely be the one to fill the spot left open by Garrett if they end up being unable to make any headway there.

HOOPS Q's Take: Sponsored by Inteleca: Stoudamire's creativity with final roster spots could pay off

Thanks to our sponsor Inteleca for helping bring back Q's Take my weekly look at things around GT and college sports from my vantage.

One of the most interesting aspects of covering Damon Stoudamire at Georgia Tech as the men's basketball coach has been his approach to building his roster. Instead of holding spots to rollover for another year he has gambled on signing different types of late prospects out of high school or the portal to fill out his final roster spots. The move paid off in a huge ways as the Jackets beat out Seattle University for point guard Naithan George who turned into one of the top freshmen guards in the ACC last year and a full-time starter after Amaree Abram failed to live up to his potential and hype a few games into the season and was benched. George became a key contributor and a highlight for Tech teams to come.

He also added Ibrahima Sacko and Ibrahim Souare late in that cycle as traditional signees. Sacko was a solid depth piece who ended up transferring because physically he was a little overmatched playing in the ACC and could help a team immediately a step down which he found at New Mexico. Souare redshirted and the jury is out on him, but he was an excellent teammate on the bench for the team and good in practice last year.

Stoudamire also added Carter Murphy as a scholarship-free one-year grad transfer rental via Air Force. Murphy helped bridge the gap in some games when Miles Kelly was banged up or the Jackets needed some three-point shooting. Given the fact he didn't count against the scholarship cap he was a key addition via the portal and free.

Ironically it was Ebenezer Dowuona a transfer from NC State and Abram who were the two higher profile additions along with Kowacie Reeves out of the portal that disappointed. Reeves was very solid as a role player, but Dowuona was awful before a season-ending injury late in ACC play ended his worst season in college. Abram seemed to be allergic to playing any type of defense and had horrible shot selections and laid bricks. Tyzhaun Claude ended up being the second-best portal addition for the Jackets taking up one of the final scholarship spots as a forward/center type though undersized. He was okay, but had to step into too large of a role because of Dowuona's struggles and was often overmatched inside. They also rolled the dice on the hyperathletic Tafara Gapare and he turned into a solid player in the back end of ACC play before he bailed out for various reasons and hit the portal at the end of the year.

This time around, Stoudamire has signed an impressive class of freshmen with strong rankings and recruiting profiles and then backfilled the final spots with some interesting portal additions. Ryan Mutombo the son of Dikembe Mutombo rotted on the bench at Georgetown for the last two years especially last year after the Hoyas moved away from playing with a traditional big man. He was very solid as a true freshman under Patrick Ewing on a bad G-Town squad, but his numbers have been going the wrong way for a while. Can he replace what they hoped Dowuona would produce? The bar is pretty low and he is certainly capable of playing better than Dowuona did.

The other interesting piece is the addition of Duncan Powell a former medium-profile recruit who had his career derailed by a serious knee injury. Powell has improved each year at NC A&T and then Sacramento State and he is a more athletic Claude with a jump shot and three-point range. Powell has two years left and a chip on his shoulder after he didn't end up at Arkansas out of HS. He has had a ton of starts and stops in his career and is looking for a shot that Stoudamire will give him.

I'm skipping over the more obvious portal pieces like Javian McCollum and this is really a look at the final spots more than anything else. That is a lot more interesting to me because Stoudamire is trying to find his role players like an NBA team at the end of the bench. Murphy was supposed to be his bench 3-point guy last year and he took a flyer on guys like George and Sacko to see what they could turn into.

It is really interesting to see how Stoudamire is willing to take random pieces and assemble a roster. They actually passed on some well-known big men this past cycle because Stoudamire didn't like the fit. They have enough big men to play with, but it goes to show how seriously he takes the pieces he has added and what exactly he is looking for with his team, and the chemistry of his program.

Will this translate into GT getting into the NCAA Tournament in the near term? That is the million-dollar question.

Athletes who were Dual-Sport at Tech

Off-season topic for sure, but realized when watching an ACCDN upload of the ‘96 Tech-UNC football game (they’ve been uploading quite a few past Tech games lately) that CJ Williams was both a solid running back as well as an integral guard on the basketball team during his time at Tech. Did not originally know that (though I would’ve been like two or three years old then) and found it quite cool.

I know we’ve had some guys (Jones, Smelter) that juggled, or switched from, baseball during their careers. Any other dual-sport, Bo- or Deion-esque athletes that y’all can remember coming through Tech?

FOOTBALL RECRUITING The latest on CB target Cam Strong

This one truly feels like a toss up as of 8pm tonight. Between GT and NC State.

GT hasn’t been told one way or another per my sources and neither has NC State.

GT got the last visit, has the family on their side, and has the best opportunity for Strong and co. to succeed.

Does not seem like he’s made a decision. Sources close to his recruitment are unsure what’s going to happen 24 hours from now.
