For those that have been to Louisville, are there any interesting non-alcohol related things to do around Louisville that you’d recommend?

THE FLATS – Head coach Michelle Collier has finalized the 2024 roster with the signing of Lara Martinez Casas (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Casas comes to The Flats from Argentina, where she most recently played with Ferro Carril Oeste, in the top flight of Argentinian volleyball.

Martinez Casas joins the Georgia Tech volleyball program as one of the most exciting volleyball prospects in Argentina. The Buenos Aires native has been steadily rising up the ranks of the Argentina national team program over the last few years, earning a spot on the U18 national team as a 15-year-old, back in 2022. In the spring, she made her Liga A1 debut, the top-flight of Argentinian volleyball, playing for local club, Ferro Carril Oeste, where she helped lead the team to a semifinal finish in the Buenos Aires metro championships.

The 2024 signing class is now complete, with six members: senior transfer setter Luanna Emiliano, junior college transfer DS/L Sofia Velezand three freshmen: MB/RS Mira McCool, DS/L Lydia Zeng and MB Logan Wiley.



With this signing, Georgia Tech now boasts seven athletes from outside the United States, tied with Wisconsin for the most international roster among Power 4 programs. The Yellow Jackets have representatives from five countries on the roster: 11 Americans, 3 Brazilians (Emiliano, Mendes and Soares), 2 Argentinians (Bertolino and Martinez Casas) 1 New Zealander (Otene) and 1 Columbian (Velez).

Maybe I’m just an idiot but it continues to tell me my billing address is incorrect, cannot complete my purchase, etc. And it’s worthless to try to complete an order on the iPhone as it won’t even go to a cart after you attempt to add them. Just curious if anyone has had issues.

Anyone know why Georgia Tech just doesn’t have a host for this? Last episode was a March Madness episode from like 2 years ago. I follow a couple of other teams closely and they have podcasts out literally every single day. I listen to a lot of podcasts driving to and from work and at work and try to listen to as much GT stuff as possible. A lot of it is hard to listen too but it would be nice if GT had someone do just a 10 minute episode everyday. Rant over. Go Jackets!

Interesting preview here from Brett Friedlander. He’s a bit of a grouch but he’s an ACC guy through and through, and I think he’s originally from Atlanta. He’s got game-by-game predictions in here, but it looks like there’s a typo where one W and one L get transposed. Anyway, nothing really earth-shattering and nothing we don’t know, but it’s always interesting to get opinions from folks outside the primary Tech orbit.

Here are some updates and I'll keep them coming as more news breaks.

Headlining the festivities was top OL target Josh Petty from Fellowship Christian. He had a great visit that went very well. GT was able to get a final pitch in for him ahead of his decision on August 12th. The Jackets and FSU are locked in a tight race to land the talented OL. FSU in the meantime had a USF commit visit there today who is also an OT ironically from Riverwood HS Sean Poret who camped at GT but wasn't an offer guy for them. I found it interesting that they brought a kid down from Atlanta to Tally for their big recruiting weekend.

Speaking of Fellowship Christian, GT offered their QB/ATH Jonathan Granby today. It was his first offer.

Georgia Tech offered several guys on my watch list for the event, ATH Brayden Rouse from Kell HS, Buford HS OL Graham Houston, Walton HS TE Jude Cascone, and Walton HS LB Noah LaVallee both from the 2026 class. Enworth (Tenn) DB Justin Hopkins also landed an offer from GT.

Germany wins the opener easily today with their 5-1 win on big FOX. Amazing that more people from the United States have bought tickets to the Euro’s than any country in the world including Germany.

Copa America does not start until Thursday June 20 at our own Mercedes-Benz Stadium (FS1 for tv) where Argentina will play Canada.

Does anyone have a clue what GT’s Spirit Squad schedule is in Dublin?
In 2016, we had an amazing pep rally. We seriously won the locals over with that AND Derrick Moore. He was awesome.
The band and cheer squad was at the top of the Guinness Brewery playing the whole contingent at defining levels to a standing room only GT crowd who sang at the top of their lungs with a 360 panoramic view of the city of Dublin…oh and the Guinness was flowing!!
Now…. I know nothing. Does anyone know anything?

When will the Louisville game time be announced?

That is the first weekend of Cobb Fall break and we are considering a mini road trip through KY, OH, IN as we are taking our kids to see all 50 states. I could drive to Louisville if it was a later game and stop at Mammoth Caves. If the game is at noon that would be somewhat of a tight schedule.

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball will welcome 10 opponents to McCamish Pavilion, as the 2024-25 non-conference schedule was announced on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will meet a minimum of four teams that reached postseason play in 2023-24 and take part in the Hawai’i North Shore Showcase.

The 13-game non-conference schedule is highlighted by 10 home contests beginning with an exhibition game against Anderson University on Oct. 31, providing fans their first opportunity to see the 2024-25 squad in action.

Georgia Tech will officially tip-off the season welcoming Winthrop on Nov. 4 for its “Education Day” to open a four-game homestand. The Yellow Jackets will then welcome three in-state opponents to round out the homestand as Georgia State (Nov. 8), West Georgia (Nov. 14) and rival Georgia (Nov. 17) are all set to visit McCamish Pavilion.

The Yellow Jackets will spend a portion of the Thanksgiving holiday in the Aloha State, participating in the Hawai’i North Shore Showcase, Nov. 23-25. More details, including the field of opponents, for the tournament will be announced at a later date.

Upon return home, Georgia Tech will host Florida A&M on Dec. 1, before hosting Mississippi State on Dec. 4 for the second edition of the SEC/ACC Challenge. The Yellow Jackets will play its only true road game of the non-conference schedule at Mercer on Dec. 8.

Georgia Tech will gear up for Atlantic Coast Conference play meeting three teams that reached postseason play last season to conclude non-conference play. Louisiana Monroe (ULM) reached the WNIT Great 8 to close last season with a 21-14 overall record. The War Hawks visit Atlanta on Dec. 11.

The Rice Owls make their first-ever trip to McCamish Pavilion on Dec. 18 after capturing the 2024 American Athletic Conference title to secure its fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament. Georgia Tech will play its final non-conference game on Dec. 21, welcoming 2024 NCAA Tournament participant, Nebraska.

Season tickets for the 2024-25 women’s basketball season are currently on sale. The Yellow Jackets’ upcoming season, the sixth under head coach Nell Fortner, will feature nine Atlantic Coast Conference home games, in addition to its challenging non-conference slate. Season ticket packages are available for just $65 for reserved seating (a $151 savings) and $50 for general admission (a $130 savings). Fans can purchase tickets by visiting RamblinWreck.com or by calling the Georgia Tech ticket office at 1-888-TECH-TIX.

Single game tickets for the non-conference slate are also on sale. Single game tickets begin at just $10 for general admission seating and are $12 for reserved seating. Youth pricing begins at $8 per game, while group ticket packages are on sale for 10 or more tickets at $5 per ticket.

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s B.J. Elder, who filled in as an assistant coach for the majority of the 2023-24 men’s basketball season, has been officially promoted to the post, while head coach Damon Stoudamire has added two new full-time members of the staff. Former Mercer head coach Greg Gary has joined the staff as quality control specialist, and Yellow Jacket Hall of Famer James Forrest will be special assistant to the head coach.

“I’m very happy for B.J. His growth as a coach on and off the floor has been tremendous. He’s a tremendous asset to the whole Georgia Tech family,” said Stoudamire, beginning his second season on The Flats. “Greg brings a wealth of experience. His knowledge on both sides of the ball will help us tremendously. James is a legend in our program, and our players will gain a lot from his experience as a player and coach. These are all solid individuals who will benefit our program in many different ways.”

Elder, 40, was a standout member of the Yellow Jackets’ 2004 NCAA runner-up team, and joined the men’s basketball staff in July of 2019 as associate director of player personnel. He was elevated to assistant coach in December 2023 for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. A veteran of 10 years in European professional basketball following his stellar Tech career, Elder came to Tech following three seasons as assistant boys’ basketball coach at Clarkston High School. He previously served as the basketball staff’s liaison with academic services, campus housing and dining, media and marketing, as well as spearheading outreach to former Tech players.

A veteran of 29 years as a coach on the Division I level, including seven years as a head coach, Gary began his duties with the Tech staff in June of 2024. Gary, 54, comes to The Flats after five seasons as the head coach at Mercer University in Macon, Ga., where the Bears won 81 games, and nine players earned all-Southern Conference honors during his tenure. He has made 16 postseason appearances as a college assistant and player, reaching the NCAA Tournament nine times. Prior to his arrival in Macon, Gary spent eight seasons working under Matt Painter at Purdue University. He helped the Boilermakers reach the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight in 2019 and make back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in 2017 and 2018. Calling Purdue’s offensive sets, Gary helped Purdue lead the Big Ten Conference in scoring in two of his last three seasons with the nation’s second-most efficient offense.

Forrest has returned to The Flats following a long career involved in grassroots basketball in Atlanta. Forrest, 52, will leverage his successful Tech and professional playing career, as well as his coaching career at the grassroots level, to support the Yellow Jackets’ program on several levels, from strategies for skill development, player training and conditioning, to practice and game support, to public and community relations for the program. He founded and operated the James Forrest Sports Academy in Atlanta from 2005-24 and established the Team Forrest AAU basketball program in an effort to prepare carefully selected student-athletes athletically, academically and socially for the rigors of intercollegiate competition and for life after basketball.

So went to the Doctor yesterday and apparently I have Tibialis tendinitis of left lower extremity.

I have been doing a lot of walking / running in the same old shoes in concrete and this is why I have this condition.

I need advice on good running shoes with the most support.

What shoes do Yall run in that are supportive of the ankle?

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Toni M. and Richard L. Bergmark swimming and diving head coach Courtney Shealy Hart announced on Wednesday that she is resigning after 15 seasons at the helm of the Yellow Jackets to pursue a new professional opportunity outside of sports.



“The decision to step down after 15-plus years leading the Georgia Tech swimming and diving program is an incredibly difficult one,” Hart said. “I have been completely transparent with our team about the factors that led me to this decision, which first and foremost is my family, my greatest source of strength and support. Over the years, the demands of this role have grown, and I find myself needing more time to be present with them. As much as I love this program and each of our student-athletes, I must prioritize my family during this stage of my life. Additionally, I have experienced some health challenges that have made it increasingly difficult to meet the demands of this role. I have always prided myself on giving 100% to this team, but I now realize that I need to focus on my well-being to ensure that I can be there for my family and my future endeavors.



“Thank you to my team and coaches for their understanding and the incredible journey we’ve had together. I will always be rooting for them and look forward to seeing all of the amazing things they’ll do in the future.”



“On behalf of the entire Georgia Tech community, I extend our deepest thanks to Courtney for all that she has done for Tech swimming and diving and the Institute in her 15 years as head coach,” director of athletics J Batt said. “Her commitment to the student-athletes in her program not only produced top-25 teams, ACC champions and All-Americans, but also hundreds of Georgia Tech graduates that have gone on to achieve great things in and out of the pool. Hart was named Georgia Tech’s head coach in 2009-10 and steadily built a nationally competitive program, capped by the Yellow Jackets’ men finishing in the top 25 of the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll six times in the last seven seasons (2017-18 through 2023-24, with its only finish outside of the top 25 coming during the Covid-shortened 2019-20 season, when Tech finished atop the “also receiving votes” category).



She coached a total of 71 NCAA Championship participants, 21 NCAA All-Americans, 12 ACC individual champions and 29 all-conference performers at Tech. Every women’s school record and all but one of the men’s school records have been set during Hart’s 15 seasons as head coach. She also coached 16 Olympians during her time on The Flats, including five that competed at the 2024 Paris Games, where Hart served as coach to Yellow Jacket Ariana Dirkzwager, who represented Laos in the 200 freestyle.



Additionally, Hart’s squads were annually included among the CSCAA’s Scholar All-America teams.



An Olympian herself, Hart won the gold medals in the 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay at the 2000 Games in Sydney, Australia. That was just part of a decorated swimming career for Hart, who won five national titles, earned a school-record 26 All-America honors (plus two honorable mention recognitions) and was named the 2000 NCAA National Swimmer of the Year as a student-athlete at Georgia.



Prior to being named head coach at Georgia Tech, Hart spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Yellow Jackets (2007-09). She also served as an assistant coach for one season at North Florida (2006-07).



John Ames, who has served as Georgia Tech’s diving coach for 23 seasons, has been appointed as the Yellow Jackets’ interim head coach while a national search is conducted for Hart’s successor.
