He's still committed to Georgia Tech and really likes the coaches and even mentioned how much he enjoyed seeing Aaron Philo make some throws at the end of last Saturday's game vs. VMI. He's going on his official visit to Auburn next Saturday (would be an ideal time for them to look bad against Oklahoma from a Tech fan's point of view), but he said he will be back at Georgia Tech games at least two more times this season maybe more.

The Jackets' staff still feels really good about him ending up on The Flats when it is said and done as I mention at the bottom of the story, but you never know what Auburn will pull out to try to get a guy. Personally, I think Turner ends up wearing White and Gold.

ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia Tech volleyball (8-1) made a statement on Friday night, rallying after dropping the opening set to dominate Georgia (6-4) in four sets (15-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-14) inside Stegeman Coliseum. The Yellow Jackets out-hit Georgia .365 to .000 over the final three sets, earning an eighth consecutive victory.


QUICK HITS

• This was the 20th all-time victory over Georgia and 13th in the last 17 meetings (dating back to 2006).
• The Yellow Jackets have now won three straight matches against SEC opponents.
• Tech ends the non-conference schedule with an 8-1 record. The White & Gold have entered ACC play with one or fewer losses in four of the last five seasons.
• The Jackets have won eight matches in a row, the longest win streak since 2021 (10).
• Senior outside hitter Tamara Otene led the team with 20 kills (.318 hitting) and a season-high 19 digs, her team-leading fifth double-double of the season and the 27th of her career.
• Otene was one dig shy of completing her third 20/20 double-double. She is the only Yellow Jacket in the modern scoring era with multiple 20/20 double-doubles after doing so in consecutive matches last season.
• Senior outside hitter Bianca Bertolino filled the box score yet again, making a season-high 19 kills on .317 hitting to go along with seven digs, three blocks, three aces and two assists.
• Bertolino has now made 140 career aces, the eighth most in program history and only three away from tying Margaret Gales (1986-89) for 7th.
• Senior setter Luanna Emiliano secured a season-high 45 assists while also making 11 digs for her 68th career double-double.
• Junior libero Sofia Velez delivered 13 digs in the back row. She has now made 10+ digs in all but 2 of her 88 matches played in college.
• Junior middle blocker Liv Mogridge was dominant, as usual, at the net. She made five blocks, including a solo block. Mogridge has now made at least one block per set in four straight matches and seven of nine this season.

THE FLATS – Senior outside hitter Bianca Bertolino has been named to the Watch List for the 2024 Division I Player of the Year Award, presented by Nike Volleyball, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced today. Bertolino is one of 36 players across 21 teams selected onto the watch list, the Player of the Year will be announced at the AVCA Convention in Louisville, Ky. on Dec. 20.

Bertolino has earned her way onto the exclusive list as one of the best all-around contributors in Division I. Through eight matches in 2024, the native of San Guillermo-Santa Fe, Argentina is averaging a career-best 3.21 kills/set on .307 hitting, also a career-best, while adding in 3.03 digs/set. Her most dangerous asset is her serve. She leads the ACC with .72 aces/set, the sixth highest average in the country and is the only player in DI to average over three kills/set and digs/set while also making at least .7 aces/set this season.

Her success on the service line has resulted in a convincing case for Bertolino to be the greatest Georgia Tech server of the modern scoring era. At this point, her 137 career aces are 8th-most in program history and her .38 aces/set average sits in fifth. Since the sport transitioned to the 25-point rally scoring model in 2008, only Julia Bergmann (164 (2019-22)) and Monique Mead (148 (2009-12)) have made more aces over their GT careers. Bergmann owns the modern scoring era record for aces/set (.41/set), with Bertolino close behind (.38/set). With 21 matches left on the 2024 slate, Bertolino is on pace to set both modern scoring era records by season’s end.

Bertolino is one of 10 representatives from the ACC on the watch list, the second-most by a single conference. Important to note, the AVCA awards committee can add players not from the original group of 36 to a future watch list that will come out in November.

Georgia Tech, and the continent of South America, has never produced a Collegiate National Player of the Year in women’s volleyball. Bergmann was a finalist for the award back in 2021, as the East Coast Regional Player of the Year, before ultimately yielding to Wisconsin’s Dana Rettke.

Bertolino and the No. 13-ranked Yellow Jackets look to extend their seven-match win streak tonight for the 45th edition of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate. Tech will face Georgia on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 pm in Athens, Ga. The match will stream live on SECN+.

Although i feel good about us winning this game, Santucci gameplay vs. Louisville was an eyebrow raiser. I believe Louisville do not have the same WR/ skill core talent like 2023, i was extremely agitated watching the soft off coverage and light box vs UofL run sets. Louisville ran for 253 yds vs that very solid Duke defense.

Let’s hope there was some self scout and adjustments made for this Saturday

Fascinating prospect with all kinds of physical tools and athleticism but not very much football experience.

with all of the recent Cal twitter shenanigans, I looked back at the GT / Cal "series" which basically all took play in the 1930s.

It's weird and I'm curious if anyone has any insight into why these games were played. After the infamous 1929 Rose Bowl matchup between the two schools, we played 5 times (1931, 32, 36, 38, 40) rotating between campuses. What's strange though is that these games were played in December. Three times the game was played on December 26th, once on the 28th, and once on the 17th. These weren't bowl games per se, so I'm curious why they arranged the games in this way. Did they have such a great experience at the Rose Bowl together that they decided to play unofficial bowl games if neither team was selected to play in a real one? Interesting little nugget of history.

THE FLATS – Platinum recording artist Regard will be the featured performer for Georgia Tech’s Helluva Block Party Driven by Hyundai when Tech football hosts Notre Dame on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.



The Oct. 19 edition of Helluva Block Party will be held in The Home Depot Backyard, which is located adjacent to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta, the site of Georgia Tech’s highly anticipated matchup versus Notre Dame.
