FOOTBALL RECRUITING Commits still alive in their respective state playoffs...

Here in Georgia, Jackets fans have a few commits that will suit up for a GHSA state title game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a couple weeks. Carrington Coombs (Hebron Christian) and Christian Garrett (Prince Avenue Christian) will battle in the Class A-AAA Private championship game on Dec. 18 at 1 p.m. Then a few hours later, Andre Fuller Jr. And Grayson will battle Carrollton in the Class AAAAAA championship game at 7 p.m.

DB commit Elgin Sessions and his Dutch Fork team also won tonight in the semis to advance to play for a South Carolina State Championship next Friday against Summerville at 2 p.m. at South Carolina State's stadium in Orangeburg.

And last but not least, the big man tight end Kevin Roche and his Darien team won on Tuesday in the first round of the Connecticut state playoffs. They actually play in the second round at home on Sunday against Notre Dame at 12:30 p.m.

Jordan Allen, Shane Marshall and Josh Petty all saw their seasons and high school careers come to a close tonight with losses.

FOOTBALL Tech Football Officially Inks Highly Touted Recruiting Class

23 incoming freshmen comprise Yellow Jackets’ top-20-ranked class

THE FLATS – Twenty-three high school seniors – including five in the prestigious ESPN 300 – have signed grant-in-aid papers to attend Georgia Tech and play football for the Yellow Jackets in 2025 during the NCAA’s early signing period this week.

Highlighting head coach Brent Key’s roster-building philosophies, 10 of the 23 signees are offensive and defensive linemen (five OL, five DL) and 16 of the 23 are from the state of Georgia.

The five ESPN 300 prospects include Georgia Tech’s two highest-ranked signees – No. 22 Josh Petty (Roswell, Ga./Fellowship Christian Academy) and No. 48 Tae Harris (Cedartown, Ga./Cedartown H.S.) – since the prestigious ESPN 300 rankings began in 2006. Petty, who received a five-star rating from 247Sports, is the Yellow Jackets’ first five-star recruit since College and Pro Football Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson signed with Tech in 2004.

The class is ranked as high as No. 17 nationally (ESPN) and is the consensus No. 2-ranked recruiting class in the Atlantic Coast Conference. It is Tech’s highest-ranked class since its 2007 crop of newcomers – which included future all-Americans and NFL standouts Morgan Burnett, Jonathan Dwyer and Derrick Morgan – was ranked as high as No. 15 nationally (247Sports).

Twelve of the 23 signees will enroll at Georgia Tech in January and participate in all football-related activities throughout the spring semester, including spring practice. The remainder of the class will arrive at Tech in the summer, ahead of the 2025 season.

FOOTBALL Offense/defense

From the time I have become a fan when my dad put me diapers. I want to ask the older folks in here because I’m 40. Has there ever been a time in your life’s that you all have ever seen a good offense and a good defense?

The reason I ask is because that has been our Achilles hill since I can remember! Going to all the coaches that in my lifetime I can remember. CGO, wonderful offense, shitty defense! CCG, amazing defense, horrible offense, CPJ, wonderful offense, shitty defense, CG3, well just shitty all around. CBK, wonderful offense/bad but then good defense.

With that being asked and said. I don’t know much about Bobby Ross and the others but could some that’s willing to share what my thought are about the Achilles hill that I am asking??

HOOPS Stoudamire's media takeaways from Friday...

As he gets his team ready for the ACC opener at UNC tomorrow...

Stoudamire said McCollum will be out again with the concussion, and Kowacie Reeves has been wearing a boot this week so he is also unlikely to play again.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Good News for Whiskeychef and bad news for one of our commitments

Paint Tennessee (and especially Chattanooga) Blue! McCallie comes back from a 21-0 deficit to beat Jimmy Bryson and Baylor 27-21 for the Tennessee State Championship (largest Private class) - thats 5 of the last 6 Championships for McCallie (Baylor won the other one) and they avenge the regular season loss to the cross town rivals- lots of talent on the field tonight, and although I was cheering for the Blue, we are getting a good one in Jimmy Bryson!

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Coach Speak with Marshall's head coach Casey Soliday...

Hear what Soliday had to say about his stud running back making the signing day switch to Georgia Tech and what kind of player he is...

FOOTBALL Penalty stats for 2024

So, I saw somewhere on a post where some gagger fan was claiming that UGAg had an average rank of 118 over the last 3 seasons in penalties against their opponent. Searching for this stat, I found several things, one of which that stat is bullshit, they were not even close. They had one season like that but were much higher the other 2. Anyway, it made me curious about GTs penalty stats this year, because we've seemed to be fairly disciplined but it also seems like we have seen many no-calls go against us and benefit our opponents this year also. Well, I was right, stats back it up.

For 2024 regular season GT is:

#18 in penalties per game (4.9)
#7 in penalty yards per game (37.8)

Being ranked that highly, you would think our opponents penalties/yards per game would be worse than that... nope...

#130 in opponents penalties per game (3.9)
#127 in opponents penalty yards per game (35.9)

So we are a top 20 team when it comes to penalties/discipline, yet our opponents penalty stats are better than ours, when none of our individual opponents are ranked higher than we are in either category. That math don't math.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Signing Day recap story with thoughts from Coach Key...

A lot of insight into what Key values in building a roster, including emphasis on high school recruiting over the portal, recruiting in the state of Georgia, trying to recruit balance across different sides of the ball and positions and more.

I'm working on Tae Harris story now. Should have it up in the next couple hours.

What is our ceiling in recruiting?

We’re obviously thrilled with this class as it’s our best in a couple decades. For those that follow recruiting closely, what is our ceiling for our program in terms of a recruiting class? Have we reached it? Or is it fair to think that in the current environment we could someday sign top-10 or better classes? If so, what would it take to get us there?
