Things should be slow this weekend and next weekend we have the Rivals Camp in Atlanta on Sunday so there will be a lot coming out of that.
The big thing is I'm expecting a major shake up on the GT recruiting board once the staff are off the road and back in the office again. Right now they might have 100 kids that want to OV and that has to be cut in half because they aren't going to take 40 HS kids this cycle. From QB all the way to the last spot on D are being reevaluated
So here are the priority targets I am tracking closely currently, in no particular order.
The crown jewel of the DL class would be a commitment from Deuce who has a soft spot in his heart for Georgia Tech. Ohio State is trying like hell to close this one, but I think this could go down to the wire and Brent Key and Jess Simpson want him to be a Jacket. It could get very interesting.
Everybody loves a big guy who can move and Kent is the definition of one and GT isn't just playing around with the idea of playing TE, they think he could be a legit TE and a people mover at that spot with his giant frame and he catches the ball and runs well with the ball as well. He could make a good fullback as well. He likes GT and how they've approached his recruitment. Alex Mathis is super plugged in down there which helps with him as well.
With several CBs already committed, the Jackets will be picky with the final one I expect them to take from the HS ranks. Barney has GT near the top along with TAMU, Penn State and Michigan. Having CJ Gamble already committed should help there as he is quite actively recruiting his teammates to join him on the Flats. This is going to be another big fight. It will be interesting to see if Key deploys having ex-players from each of those schools on the roster to help sway Barney when he takes his OV at the end of this month.
The top safety/DB target is Jackson, who has NFL size already and is down to GT, Bama, Stanford and FSU. Jackson could also play CB and has the right size for that as well. He just visited FSU and Bama more recently and those are his OVs as of now and the main players.
Latimer is the top RB on the board right now for GT. GT wasn't in his top 6, but they are still fighting to get an OV here and are working on him.
The TAMU commit has remained a priority target for the Jackets. He is lining up OVs and GT expects to get one of them along with Texas and TAMU.
He said GT was his leader recently to one of my co-workers and UGA is in the two-hole. He would be a huge get if GT can close this one. Rivers has a knee injury that keeps flaring up and that is an area of concern for several coaches.
GT is trending right now with Conciauro. He would be a huge get from Trent McKnight and the GT WR room.
Booker committed to Alabama very quickly after the Tide offered when basically his recruitment was USF and other G5s. Now the Tide are fighting off UGA, GT and Florida. He has OVs set with Bama, UGA and UF and GT is trying to squeeze in there as well to make their pitch to keep him in his hometown.
GT made a power play to land Quinn getting him on an early OV where he was the only HS recruit on an OV. They made him the center of attention and it worked and pushed GT into his final 6. GT is considered the leader at the moment.
