So two of our top recruits, Zachary Maxwell and Tres Gonzalez, were both drafted but opted to turn it down plan on enrolling at Tech. There is still a little time left until the deadline of July 12th to sign a contract or not so rankings are not dead set but pretty close. We are in the top 10 now at #9 and that puts us only behind Miami in terms of ACC teams. Right now it is a very large class at 20 guys. That ties Vandy for the most inside the top 10 and they have the top class along with 8 top 100 guys. LSU is right behind them with 16 guys and 6 of those are inside the top 100 players. I think they will both fall under the category of recruiting "too well". I know that sounds weird but they will lose probably half of those top 100 guys as 4-5 of them were drafted in the top 2 rounds, including 2 first rounders. History does not bode well with getting those kind of kids on campus. (Dodgers lost their first rounder last year to Miss. State, but still super rare)
The top 10 as of right now follow:
Team | Commits | Top 100
1) Vanderbilt 20 8
2) LSU 16 6
3) Florida 18 6
4) Ole Miss 19 4
5) Texas A&M 15 5
6) Miss. State 17 4
7) Miami 14 3
8) FIU 18 1
9) Georgia Tech 20 1
10) Auburn 15 2
-We moved into the top 10 from 12 after the draft but the rankings will update after the deadline and all the kids that sign MLB contracts will be removed from the rankings.
It is also not realistic to expect all 20 kids committed to sign LOI's and end up on campus. Baseball recruiting is weird and at the last minute you will have kids end up JUCO and at smaller schools. Whether they are dropped or something happens with school, wont name names but this happened with a really good catcher out of George Walton recently, sometimes they just dont end up on campus. I will update this as things start to finalize in the rankings.
Interesting Notes:
-If they hold on, This would be Tech's first top 10 class since the 2015 class. Which included Joey Bart and Tristin English just to name a few.
-Georgia is limited on numbers a little bit, but their class is down this year. Will childers was their lone draft pick but it was the 30th round. They also dont have a guy inside the Top 100.
-PG Top 100 recruits tend to be spot on and are key to getting a few of those on campus. Tristin was #39 in his class and well worthy of that after his career. Landing those guys really pays off.
