Georgia Tech practiced in full pads again on Wednesday as the Jackets prepare for #14 Miami in Bobby Dodd Stadium. Johnson shared his thoughts on the state of the team heading into the game.

"Practice has been pretty good and about as always," Johnson said. "It is about the same."

With the short week heading into Clemson last week, the Jackets did not practice in pads. Offensive line coach Mike Sewak said what he saw in practice did not translate to the field, but Johnson had a different take on it.

"I don't know how you would know how it was because we practiced in shells last week. It is pretty easy to practice in shells," Johnson said. "They just went haywire when they went out there. That and they (Clemson) are really good."

The Jackets lost Step Durham and Trey Klock to ankle injuries in the Clemson game and it sounded like both could be questionable when the injury report is released on Thursday.

"We are beat up a little bit and we will turn (injury report) loose tomorrow," he said. "We have a couple of starters out, but we will see."

Miami will start three freshmen linebackers against the Jackets with Shaquille Quarterman, Zach McCloud and Michael Pinckney. Johnson said they are good players despite the inexperience but he is mostly concerned about the state of the Jackets offense.

"They are good players, they are physical and they can run," Johnson said. "But I'm more worried about our guys than their guys. If we will play, we can play. If we go out there have missed assignments and don't come off the ball it will be ugly. It is the same kind of kids (as Clemson)."

CPJ said that Parker Braun didn't play great on Thursday either said he blew up two pass plays, but said whole team was like popcorn one guy would just blow up. Said they can't run around like wild people, have to make plays.

CPJ said the team has to control themselves and learn who to block.

CPJ said he watched film with the entire team instead of just switching out units. He wanted accountability and the players to show and say they knew what to do on each play because if the coaches weren't telling them the right things then he needed to know.

CPJ said the players said they knew most of the assignments but didn't know why they screwed up.

CPJ said the reason he doesn't do it every time is because the coaches can get more in-depth with their position groups.

CPJ said the players need to play within themselves and have awareness. CPJ gave an example of the OL firing off too fast on a pass play because the linemen ran right by them. If you are pulling and you don't know who to block you have to hit the right guy and going fast doesn't help. Said the players know, it is not rocket science, they can look at the tape and knew who screwed up and whose guy made the play and who is supposed to block them.

CPJ said Lamont Simmons played well and will play a lot more this week.

CPJ said Pat Gamble does a great job, eats double team and gaps, he isn't making big sacks or anything but does the dirty work.

CPJ said he will understand how the defense is this year after Saturday's test. Said the second half against Clemson defensively was really good and the whole game defensively was much better than 2015 overall.

CPJ said they have to give the CBs help from the Safeties because Miami is so good with the deep ball and mixing coverage is huge and not put the CBs on an island this week.

CPJ said the safety play has been okay.
