ATLANTA-- Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson and some of his offensive players and staff spoke following Monday's session.

"I thought it went well. Today was the first day in pads and I thought the tempo was pretty good and they flew around and tried to compete," Johnson said.

"We are way behind and there is no question about it," Johnson said. "I would like to see (new) facilities and whatever. If you look at the other schools we are behind in most every aspect from facilities to staff to salaries or whatever."

On Saturday at a press conference, Yellow Jacket athletic director Mike Bobinski said he feels like the football program is fully funded and there have been no requests for new facilities or additional staff. Johnson refuted that notion.

"We had a plan for a locker room and a locker room would be great. We had several meetings and they drew it up and it would be big for the program," Johnson said. "It is about recruiting when kids walk in that is their impression (of the school). It is like you guys know it is an arms race. If you are not building you are falling farther and farther behind."

Johnson said as far as he knows any plans for facilities upgrades are on hold and Bobinski has not mentioned anything to him about that.

"I don't know that there are plans to do anything right now. If there are, I'm not aware of them," Johnson said. "We had the locker room plans drawn up and I guess they are waiting for someone to fund it."

Johnson said they are staying relatively healthy. Marcus Marshall left practice on Monday with an undisclosed injury. CPJ said he is excited about Marcus Marshall.

CPJ said if they played tomorrow Dedrick Mills would be the #2 B-back behind Marshall. CPJ said that Kirvonte Benson has caught his eye in camp and the light is starting to come on, if he can keep going, he may be the strongest B-back on the team.

CPJ said that Brad and Scott Morgan need to learn the plays. CMS said that Brad is ahead of Scott because he has a ton practice reps whereas Scott only moved late in spring camp. CMS said that Brad has a little bit better technique and pad level right now. Brad apparently made a couple of nice blocks today. CMS said that Scott may be more athletic but he is still learning the offense.

CPJ said that Eason Fromayan has had a good camp so far, Eason said he has dropped from 296 to 270 and dropped his body fat percentage considerably. CPJ said he is excited to watch Eason play.

CMS said that Andrew Marshall did a nice job today getting guys to the ground.

CMS said that Jake Stickler is working toward being a rotation guy but it still up and down but he is more feisty and seems to want it more.

CPJ said that Parker Braun has a high motor and Kenny Cooper is really strong and they like Lee as well. CMS said Parker has turned some heads in his first five practices, liked Cooper and said that Lee had a nice veer-release and turn inside to fit up on a LB in practice today, excited about all three freshmen, but would prefer to redshirt if possible. Said Lee needs to get stronger at the point of attack, but he is the type of athlete they need.

CPJ said that Emanuel Bridges is trying to learn what to do but is still a freshman at LB and just had those spring practices, but needs to learn.

CPJ said can't tell who is standing out at WR yet.

CPJ Said that TaQuon Marshall and Matt Jordan are battling for #2 right now and that Jordan may have a role as the goal line and short yardage guy.

CMS said losing Chris Griffin hurts, but they've gone two years without being able to count on him so they've adjusted to him not being there.

CMS said Freddie Burden is having a great camp and he has really taken over the leadership role on the OL.

CMS said they have nine players under 19% body fat which they've never had, said the group is in the best shape of their careers. Said they are getting more guys to the ground in space and getting to the second level as a group better. Said also the practice looks are better because guys are pushing for jobs.

CMS said that Shamire Devine is doing okay, still doing some extra running and stuff to lose weight, but his stamina has improved.

CMS said that Will Bryan did a great job getting his body weight up and his body fat percentage down. Said that both Will and Trey Klock got burned in the fire having to play last year and he said they both are showing tremendous desire.

CMS said that he thinks Will Bryan will end up being a very good guard and that is the best spot for him. Said Will was in awe at times playing last year and he forgot his mouthpiece when he first went into a game.

JT said he has lost some weight and feels faster. JT said there is a lot of individual responsibility on this team that was missing last year and better overall leadership.

Lynn Griffin said the A-back competition is extremely stout and that he thinks it has raised the level of play. Lynn said he spent everyday this summer watching film with JT and he understands the point of everything they do on the offense overall now.
