All this talk of song covers in the Woodstock 99 thread reminded me of an argument I had with a friend of mine years ago over who had the better version of "American Woman"...the original by The Guess Who, or the cover by Lenny Kravitz. I thought the original was one of the greatest rock songs ever, with the acoustic intro and Burton Cummings' unmistakable voice. So I'd like to hear your thoughts on which covers you thought were better than it's original? I've listed a few here...
Jimi Hendrix - "All Along the Watchtower" (Bob Dylan)
Carlos Santana - "Black Magic Woman" (Fleetwood Mac)
Nirvana - "The Man Who Sold the World" (David Bowie)
Bonnie Raitt - "Angel from Montgomery" (John Prine)
The Black Crowes - "Oh Sweet Nuthin'" (Velvet Underground)
