I need to redo my deck. It has reached the end of its useful safe life. 23 years old now and gets a beating from sun. It is a 12X16 deck second story. I do want to extend it about 6 square feet and put a covered roof and screen in over the existing 12X16 area and leave the extended part for my smoker and uncovered.
I just got a quote from a decking company in Buford, withholding name now, for $62,000 ****ing dollars. 18K to replace the current decking, 10K for stairs, 8K for handrails and $23K for new roof/screen in, remainder for haul away and what not. In my head I had $40K worst case, I didn't fathom $62K and I can't even being to contemplate it. $35K just to replace the existing is crazy to me. It's not that big.
Am I off on my thinking or am I getting ripped off here? I got another quote coming in today, so I'll see the gap. But damn...
