I may be in the minority here but I always wonder why Board of Governors dont approve a major in Sports. These kids that can read defenses and learn playbooks, train, strength and conditioning, nutrition, etc are incredible skills that lead to employment. This idea that kids come to college to only play the sport and not go to class is stupid. Playing the sport and film study are the classes!!!
I have plenty of friends who went to college only to get a job in sales, the lifeblood of capitalism. Yet there’s no major in sales although its highly skillful. Similarly, tons of I-bankers majored in literature at Princeton. Make it make sense for me folks.
We seem to ridicule these kids because they arent fitting squarely into the framework of a traditional major. But for the examples above those kids didnt either and went and got a job just the same. Whats the difference?
Thanks for listening.
