Is there any big time 2017 kids that are high on GT basketball as of now?
I'll defer this one to Dan, but I think it is kind of early for a feel on Pastner with the 2017 kids other than ones he was recruiting at Memphis. @Dan McDonald
update on which FB recruits so far you feel the best about Tech landing. Just gives me someone to follow in the down time.
OL Case Cook, DE/LB Drew Jordan, DE Jacob Lichtenstein, OLB Leonard Warner and S Rodney Owens.
Your favorite GT FB coach to interview?
It was Charles Kelly when he was here, he is a good friend to this day. Nowadays I enjoy Pelton a lot, he is very frank with me.
Favorite player to be around and talk to during your time?
Toss up between Sean Bedford, Roddy Jones and Freddie Burden.
Your top 3 Rush songs?
Xanadu, Digital Man and La Villa Strangiato
Your sense of how good Francis Kallon and the D-Line can be this season?
I think Pelton is very optimistic about the depth and talent they have. I think Francis could the classic late bloomer and play his way into the draft.
Which true freshmen do not red-shirt this season?
Jordan Woods, Jahaziel Lee, Kenny Cooper, Parker Braun and one of the WRs.
What are our standingsnow with Deejay Dallas? I noticed that he tweeted something presumably using emojis to represent his teams still in the mix. I didnt see UGA but i did see GT. Does UGA not want him?
I think it is still a long shot but GT is working the QB angle hard. I still don't see it yet, but stranger things have happened.
I really liked what I saw from the D-line during the spring game. Is there a chance we could have one of our best D-lines since 08-09 when Adams and Woods come in this summer?
Yeah I think so, this is the most impressive group I've seen since then at GT.
1)Everybody says a recruiting class can't be rated until the recruits have played for a year or two. Nobody better able to evaluate our four past classes than you. (Not talking 2016 as they haven't set foot on campus yet.) What's your take on the strengths and shortcomings of the classes of 2015, 14,13 and 12?
I'm not doing 2014 or 2015, third full year is when you should see guys in the two-deep. People on here write off kids too quickly.
2012:
Kind of up and down some guys screwing themselves up with off the field issues like Anthony Autry, Travin Henry and Dennis Andrews and two career ending injuries Chase Roberts, Beau Hankins and Tyler Stargel. Great kids in Justin Thomas, DJ White, Freddie Burden, Pat Gamble and Adam Gotsis, Nice role players from Rook and Summers, Lynn Griffin and Francis Kallon. All in all a few good class with the potential to have four to five NFL players out of it depending on what happens with JT, Pat and Kallon.
2013:
Probably the worst class CPJ ever signed, end of Al Groh era so a lot of guys there and some major academic issues with Kevin Robbins and Travis Custis or drug/team rules violators Darius Commissiong, Justin Akins, Ty Griffin and plain misses failures in Antonio Messick, Donovan Wilson, and John Marvin who all burned out. Only four serious contributors in that entire class, Ricky Jeune, Harrison Butker, P.J. Davis and Corey Griffin with two who could still step up at guard in Shamire Devine and Chris Griffin.
2) Do you see our store of talent as sufficient to win more than lose over the long haul this year vs Clemson, Miami, UNC, VT, Duke, Pitt and UGA?' I'm talking "should" more than "could".
To me this whole season rides on the play of the offensive line and the corners IMO, I think the rest of the team should be significantly better than last year but not quite 2014 level.
3) We usually have several commits by this time of year. How many should we have by the end of July to be building a base of enthusiasm for other 2017 prospects?
Probably 10 in a class of 18, GT is a little behind the 8 ball right now, but I think that is because typically the early commits are ABs, BBs or LBs. They may not take a RB at all and the LBs they are closest to popping are 4-star guys who won't do anything until August typically.
15 months ago the 2016 season was seen as as a possible playoff season. Optimism is rare on this board now, does a healthy C Griffin, and a suave S Devine put us back in that 10-11 win conversation? Assuming our injury jinx is left in 2015. Defense looks to be better up front ...
If the OL is decent, they will win 8-10 games with the current schedule and a healthy team IMO, but that will be the key.
Maybe I missed it, but has there been a hire for the 4th spot on Pastner's staff (ops or player personnel or whatever the title is) ?
Not yet, I think he has to wait until July to make that final hire from what I've heard but I'll check with CJP when I get a chance to.
