Scale of 1-10, how much more FB recruiting buzz is there right now compared to this time last year? Mainly with higher profile recruits. 1 being much less, 10 being much more
KQ- It seems like it is ticking upward a good bit. I think there is still plenty of room to get moving it up. I'd put it at like a 7, but they are making way more progress more quickly than I thought they would.
Do you think the QB commit will come from your current list or will a new name pop up? If you were placing bets, who do you put as 1, 2, 3 in likely being the commit? Is Weinke the primary recruiter and decision maker with concurrence from Buster and Brent? Is this going to be a summer recruit?
KQ- I appreciate you trying to make sense of the QB recruiting like that, but I think we are still going to be waiting a little bit for the QB for the class. Remember they have three YOUNG QBs right now who they plan to keep on the team for 2026, Aaron Philo, Graham Knowles and Grady Adamson. That isn't the most inviting thing for landing a top shelf HS QB. Weinke generally recruits the QBs unless there is a prior relationship situation like Buster with Philo with someone else on the staff. They worked together with the QB staff and Buster and Key to figure that out.
Could someone commit before then? Maybe I just think this will drag out a little through the spring evaluation period when they go on the road.
Do you think CBK will let Coach Bohannon be in his headset during the game to weigh in on critical game decisions? Since Brian has had to do that for many years, it might be good to hear what his gut is telling him, in addition to CBK's analytics guy with the beard.
KQ- So Pat Boyle is the guy with the beard. He is the analytics guy, Brenden Farrell was hired to also help with this along with special teams, his title is "Sr. Strategist - Special Teams and Game Management", Tim Salem also helps and Bohannon will be there to help along with Don Hill Eley. So he has a lot of experienced dudes to help with various situations. I'm not sure what the rules are about who is on the headsets, but I'll ask Key about how that works. They used to have a cap on who could be on the headset.
When do you expect to see any basketball staff moves-adds or departures? Do you anticipate a GM type role being added?
KQ- I expect there will be some level of movement staff wise, that always happens. As far as the GM thing, that has been a hot rumor. I haven't seen the job listed or anything yet. I could see Batt wanting to hire a GM type and it would probably help Damon, but they also have that guy they brought in to handle Rev Share and other stuff so maybe he can help.
On this roster - how many guys do you think have NFL potential? Where would you say that stacks relative to other acc programs? How has GT’s talent position versus other acc programs changed in recent years?
KQ- I can't tell you about other ACC teams, I don't have the knowledge base to give you any insight there. As far as GT goes there about 22 guys who I think could develop into NFL players excluding guys who haven't enrolled yet.
what do you think we learned from our first scrimmage, is there anything of note
KQ- Alex did a whole write up, but the first scrimmage is mostly about executing the base offense and then seeing anything else. I'll do more of a status report later in the week on where things stand. I never put too much into a single scrimmage as right now this is all about base concepts and executing the offense, defense and special teams units core stuff.
Are you willing to share any player comps and evaluations you have on the 3 commits? I noticed this past weekend that some other highly coveted DBs were visiting. How many DB's do you anticipate we'll take this cycle and at which positions?
KQ- Player comps is an interesting question. We can dive into that in the post-spring window. I have GT taking 7 HS DBs as of today for the 2026 class. You have four seniors, Omar, Clayton, Rodney, Ahmari and I would assume DJ Moore is in that grouping even though he has two years remaining on his clock. Then you have one or two guys I expect to process out when they are buried on the depth chart as well.
I have them looking at as many as 4 HS corners, 2 safeties and 1 NB.
Several people have mentioned just getting rid of the basketball program altogether and just focusing on football.
I think that’s crazy, but is it in any way a realistic possibility?
KQ- Well GT would be involation of ACC agreement and GOR and would get sued to oblivion and you'd never be in a major conference in football without so let's stop with the boo-hoo stuff.
We are not dropping bball. But you have be resigned to the fact that you will have a different team every year
KQ- This is the new normal. I pulled Wake Forest's roster and they have three returning players now. Everyone else is done or in the portal.
These are three returning players
Omaha Biliew- 2.8 ppg (SOPH)
Marqus Marion who redshirted
Juke Harris 6.1 ppg
So they have 8.9 ppg game returning
Pitt has 5 guys back but two they expect to still enter the portal.
It is what it is. Everyone is trying to jump on the money now because they are afraid that rev share will change the game and at some point caps will get put into place.
