When is our OC going to officially start with us and be done with UGA? Could’ve already started- was just reading somewhere that Kirby wanted him to stay till after Spring.

KQ- He officially started back in December. I think someone was yanking your crank about spring time. He helped them out with their playoff prep though.

What's more likely for this offseason? Pastner cleaning house on his assistant coaches or us moving on from Pastner? I feel like we're missing the loss of Reveno more than people realize.

KQ- I would be very surprised if GT made any kind of move on Pastner this offseason. They have to figure out NIL on two fronts and get both rolling before diving into yet another plan like that. No coach I would want to see hired here would step into the current situation. Rutgers, Pitt and others have significantly more NIL dollars and those are not even well-funded programs. J Batt, Pastner and some others are working on it. They have to have something with NIL otherwise they will not compete whether it is Bobby Cremins, Bob Knight or Coach K coaching here.

Can we get an updated list of the freshmen who entered in Jan.

KQ- What type of update are you looking up? Like a list of who enrolled early or something else?

Are we still looking to take one more QB? Any names we need to know? Transfer? HS?

KQ- They would take one more quarterback if they can find someone who fits what they are looking for. The 2023 class was very weak for QBs so you could just see GT double up in the 2024 cycle as well to fix that and use the extra ship for something else. Brody Rhodes is capable of being a 4th QB. If you lost someone in the spring you could just add one in the portal.

  • Any recent news on getting Derrick Moore back on the Flats?
KQ- That is not something I think happens quickly. There is likely fundraising involved and some other stuff to create the correct position for him, so I think it will be a process if it happens. I know people want him back, but nothing is a slam dunk right now on that front.
  • Are the number/quality of our transfers coming in about in line with what you expected this time a month ago when CBK was freshly announced?
KQ- Yeah the portal shifted some this cycle after teams used their money to keep key guys and others saw how unstable the transfer market and NIL market was for kids who were not huge needle movers like Jordan Addison or Jahmyr Gibbs. Key wants to build this thing up and use the portal as a supplement at positions like linebacker where they needed additional experience or quarterback where they are down on bodies, but you don't want to get too crazy with it. Everyone is trying to find that happy medium. This is the tail end of the second cycle of transfers. The third cycle comes after spring football so there will be additional movement like always.

There was a Ken AJC article last year with a quote from Josh asking anybody with NIL ideas or opportunities to email him. The concern for some was that it wasn’t being proactive in creating NIL relationships. But from a rules perspective, what can a head coach do publicly to create relationships and NIL opportunities while staying within the parameters? Can he call a CEO or a business owner or does he have to appear hands-off with all of that?

KQ- So the main issue is the money people who backed Cremins and later Hewitt are disengaged or dead. I asked about this specifically because that is how a lot of the more formidable NIL groups got off the ground. ADTS didn't want GT to buy players and did not push for NIL for hoops in any major way. ADJB however is a firm believer in doing what it takes to compete at a high-level and he is trying to fix all of that within the confines of the rules for GT. He got the people who have to put it together (remember it has to be done outside the GTAA) to organize things finally and get the ball rolling. They have a lot of work to do to catch up in hoops with the rest of the ACC.

Have you heard any specific details yet about Batt’s involvement with basketball at Alabama? Some vague reports when he was hired was that he was the lead administrator of men’s basketball and was heavily involved with bringing in and executing the vision of Nate Oats there.

KQ- I have not talked to J Batt on this subject or explored his basketball background with him.

Is Randy Rhino and Kelly still involved with GT? Kelly is one of my all time favorite player. He had heart like no other and was tough as nails,

KQ- I used to see Randy pretty regularly around the program so I think he is. I don't know Kelly Rhino so I'm not sure. I think Kelly has a construction company in Sandy Springs.
