Paul Johnson and Joe Hamilton were on hand for Wednesday's honor

ATLANTA - Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head football coach Paul Johnson and College Football Hall of Fame member Joe Hamilton were honored Wednesday by the Georgia General Assembly at the Georgia State Capitol.

Wednesday's visit began with recognition by the Georgia Senate. Senate Resolution 349, which commended Johnson and the Yellow Jackets on their 2014 Orange Bowl championship season, was sponsored by senators Jack Hill (4th District), David Shafer (48th District), Bill Cowsert (46th District), P.K. Martin IV (9th District), Mike Crane (28th District), and others.

Senate Resolution 35 honoring Hamilton as a 2014 College Football Hall of Fame inductee was sponsored by senators Valencia Seay (34th District), Vincent Fort (39th District), Martin IV (9th District), Steve Henson (41st District), and others.

In the State House of Representatives, House Resolution 283 recognized Johnson and the Yellow Jackets' 2014 season. HR 283 was sponsored by state representatives Bert Reeves (34th District), Geoff Duncan (26th District), Buzz Brockway (102th District), Wes Cantrell (22nd District), Ronnie Mabra (63rd District), and others.

"Thank you to the Speaker, representatives and everyone here for the honor," Johnson said on the floor of the House. "It's a real privilege for me to represent Georgia Tech and our football program. I am really proud of our young men, assistant coaches and our entire football program. On behalf of our team, players and everyone involved, thanks and Go Jackets!"

HR 292 recognized Hamilton's College Hall of Fame induction and was sponsored by Hamilton's Georgia Tech teammate and representative Ronnie Mabra (63rd District), Dan Gasaway (28th District), "Coach" Williams (87th District), Duncan (26th District), Cantrell (22nd District), and others.

"Thank you very much to everyone involved - the House, Ronnie Mabra, the Senate - for this honor," Hamilton said. "It's a privilege to be here representing Georgia Tech."

Georgia Tech opens its 2015 spring practice schedule March 23. The annual Spring Game will be held Friday, April 17, at 7 p.m. at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
