Tubby has been, up until now, the Captain of the `51-`52 Teams alumni organization. Tub took over when George Morris died in 2008. The group has been getting smaller and smaller, but Tubby has kept in touch with everybody and got us together for a lunch or something every year.
Dick never started at Tech. In `51 and `52 he played behind All American Center Pete Brown. In his Senior year the NCAA went to "one platoon" only and Larry Morris moved from Linebacker to Linebacker-Center. Believe me, not starting in those days was nothing to be ashamed or worried about. Tub`s most famous attribute was being Leon Hardeman`s roommate.
Tubby died this past week, playing golf with friends. He was one of those guys " everybody loved". We`ll sure miss him.
