Just a quick browse and random observations as we approach the first quarter mark this upcoming Saturday to the regular season at Tulane...in no particular odor...

-Chuck Mitchell with a double-double in every game so far is just outstanding.

-Adam Smith at 44.4% from outside the arc is such a huge pump of adrenaline for this team. Funny however that he is only 4 of 8 so far from the FT line. Small sample size. He won't get to the line much with his game, but when he does, he'll eventually shoot better than 50%.

-FT shooting has been tremendous so far for the guys who get to the line more frequently. This is a great sign. Chuck (73.3%), MGH (82.2%), Jacobs (78.6%), Stephens (85.7%). Those are 4 of our top 5 scorers.

-Speaking of Stephens, great productivity out of him. Only getting 15.9 minutes per game, but scoring 5th on the team at 7.4 ppg. Shooting 40.0% from outside the arc. 10 assists to only 4 TO's. Not bad for a guy who is 6'9".

-Tadric Jackson is 4 of 19 (21.1%) from outside the arc. SMFH! He has taken 22 shots from inside the arc. I was hoping he would weight it far more this year to where he was shooting 75%+ of his attempts from inside the arc instead of closer to a 50-50 split. I think he still has it in his head that he is a perimeter marksman. He's not. I like his chances much better when he is driving and slashing. Shooting 25% of his attempts from deep to keep defenses honest makes sense. Close to 50% makes no sense at all to me.

-Heath has 32 assists to 10 TO's. 3 to 1 ratio is outstanding for a point guard who is logging over 22 minutes a game. Jorgenson is even better now at 19 assists to 5 TO's...about 4 to 1. Those 2 guys are averaging combining for 38 minutes a game, 7.5 points a game, and a little over 7 assists per game. That's encouraging from that position.

-Lammers...shooting 73.9% from the field...logging just over 15 minutes a game...grabbing 4 boards a game

-Jacobs has as expected cooled down a bit from his very hot start, but he is still looking really good overall

In the challenge. B1G 8 ACC 6

North Carolina beat Maryland. I had no idea Maryland was ranked so high.

Michigan State looked really good against Louisville.

There were 4 OT games... with the ACC only winning one. I was surprised that Syracuse went down like they did. 8 point loss in OT I guess they ran out of energy or players...

Yes sir, some nice numbers in there. Plus still opportunity to get better. I think as the season moves along we will see less minutes from the bench, w/ maybe Tadrics minutes dropping off more than others.

I am most excited about Mitchell, but teams will start focusing their efforts on him, so the other players will need to fill in the gap when he's doubled.

One of my new interns, Luigi, who reports to one of my associates, Guido, reported out on his first project earlier today at work. Guido tasked Luigi with thoroughly reviewing all the many rules changes this year in college hoops and further to provide guidance on how it may affect wagering.

Interesting to note and I thought you might all like to know that one rule has not been changed. Copied and pasted from the actual NCAA Rules Documentation Manual...

1. Duke gets all the calls.

Thanks for taking the time to compile these stats! I'm encouraged about our point guard play thus far. Both of those guys value the ball and distribute it efficiently. If one (or both) could knock down the occasional open trey with regularity all the better, but even if not we are getting good production at the PG position.

The head scratching shot selection by Tadric looks like a coaching call to me. CBG has not only green-lighted Tadric, but he's also running sets designed to give him a look at the three ball. I have no idea why - but CBG knows a lot more than I - so I will defer to his judgement for the time being. That said, if a career 18% 3-point guy is averaging 3 attempts per game come ACC play, it's time to begin questioning the coaching.

I think Stephens could be our pivotal player this season. This is a 6'9" guy with a beautiful stroke and enough length, quicks, and smarts to defend when he's switched to most mismatches. If his minutes grow as the season progresses, it bodes well.

This season will ultimately live and die with the four seniors in our starting lineup. None of these guys have experienced much in the way of winning. I think this season mostly hinges on CBG teaching this seasoned group of seniors how to win basketball games.
