ACC Tournament thread

Larranaga is probably going to retire soon. Williams might look at Ga. Tech as a lateral move or Heaven forbid, a step down.
I always thought Larranaga was a good hire for Miami and he has proved that to be true. It'll be interesting to see how they transition to another coach.

I am not sure how GT fits into the ladder of coaching stops. With all the talent in Atlanta and the SE you'd think some would feel good about the situation. The facilities are top notch, but the fan support and salaries seem to be lagging behind.

I think Larranaga will continue coaching for at least the next 4 years. He's in good health, loves what he's doing, is not coaching at a place where he will be under immense pressure if they don't win 20 games in a season, and is in a desirable location for those in their golden years.

He relates very well to 18-23 year olds and the players seem to respond well to him...as evidence by his being named ACC COTY this year. Terry Holland had quite the staff back in the day in God's Country didn't he?

Williams made a smart move to get out of the Big East and take the dive into a power conference. The Big East is not nearly the glamour conference it once was. Va Tech fans would never be nervous about a program of the likes of a G.T. swiping Williams away. A potential opening at a place like Louisville? Different story completely.

Back in the days of Dwayne Morrison, Homer Rice approached Bob Weinhour(who wasn't interested in leaving Penn. for this challenge, could have been age), then Gary Williams from American U.(he said no dice, went on to B.C., then his Alma Mater-Maryland). Then he went to a young coach in Boone, N.C. That lasted almost 20 years, including a brief hire with USC-East in a mid-life crisis.

Now we are in a similar predicament. The old coach isn't going to want this rebuild. Anybody left named Williams of today is going to say "nope". The "Marshall" will say too late, you'll never find me now(just like a "Fox"). We need the young coach who can relate to our A C C success from the '80's. Neal and Price, Price and Neal. It might take two. Could be one with a great staff.

Jay Wright, Shaka Smart, all the big names, are not going to contemplate us!

I think it is moot for now because I fully expect Brian Gregory to be our HC next season.

Having said that...

...as we are about ready for tipoff...

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO JACKETZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!

Good start for the Good Guys. Great to see Adam get hot early.

Would love to see a 2nd foul on Blossomgame soon. Need to go right at him to draw one hopefully.

Ummm...somebody please fly a paper airplane message to our bench and advise the HC that it might be a good idea to put MGH on Blossomgame any time now.

Pretty pathetic basketball by us over the last 8 minutes of the half. Took zero advantage of Blossomgame on the bench for the last 5 minutes with 2 fouls. Actually, we are lucky to be down single digits IMO. Play like this in the 2nd half and we will lose by 20+.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? I took GT +400 on the ML at the end of the half. We are coming back BRUTHAS!!!!

Let's hope a Magic Bee comes down and teaches our guys how to play defense in a damn hurry. Either that or Clemson just goes cold as ice. Pretty difficult to go cold though shooting shots from 2 feet from the basket.

Pathetic defense remains our weak link...again.

Yep, we are getting decimated off the dribble. Are we wearing lead shoes or something?

The ref literally waited on Blossomgame's layup to miss before he called a foul (bogus) on MGH. Absolutely ridiculous.

Brownell is thoroughly out-coaching Gregory. When your guys are getting layups over and over and over, that is being out-coached. I'd try a zone to mix things up. What we are doing is not working...and has not worked the entire game.

Clemson is far from an offensive juggernaut and we are making them look like it. Of course, when you are getting layups it is easy to shoot well over 50%.

Well girls, just not our night. I don't think 18-14 is any lock whatsoever for a NIT MET bid.

We shall see...

Still holding out hope. Down 10 with 11 to go is still doable and this team has shown some grit late in the season.

I'm hanging on to hope, mate. Just not seeing anything in what we are doing to think we will get the stops and then score enough to turn this thing around. Hope I'm wrong.

Looks more like Clemson will win by 20 than us cutting it inside a possession or two.

Down 18 with 9 to go isn't doable. Gonna be rough couple of years for this program going forward. Not only is this not our night, this isn't our decade.

I fully admit with 15 minutes left in my spreadsheet where I have the bracket laid out, I went ahead and advanced Clemson. Clemson completely outplaying us since the 10 minute mark of the 1st half.

Clemson scored over 80 pts 3 times this season. 2 were losses to Minnesota and Notre Dame (both by identical 89-83 scores). The other was a 84-75 win over FSU.

THAT is how bad this defensive lack of effort and execution is tonight by Tech.

Clemson has hit some open 3's...not tough or contested 3's mind you, but open 3's to their credit. 10 of 23 from outside the arc and currently 51% from the field.

Nnoko is a 63% FT shooter. I'd start hacking him soon if we aren't going to play any defense. Take your chances with him having to make 2 from 15 feet. And, I'm NOT kidding. Don't wait until 1 minute left to start a hack-a-thon.

Or, we can just let Blossomgame drive for an And-One. How ridiculously pathetic we are coached...or, not coached I should say.

Does he not think they are going to go to their 1st team All-ACC stud coming out of a timeout? Double him and make him get rid of the ball.

The Fighting Mark Prices defeat Rice tonight by 10 and cash me a cover of 6 pts. Cha-ching!

Thanks, Mark.

Great to see Bobby earlier on the broadcast. I swear he looks the same as 20 years ago.

MGH hard to the basket, gets mugged, and still collects the offensive rebound. Are you kidding me? He's got heart.

Adam Smith is the best outside shooter we've had since Anthony Morrow

Mitchell fouled the right guy. No problem with that. Gotta take chances. He's their worst FT shooter on the court.

Make our damn free throws, guys!!! Clemson is feeling the pressure and choking here.

Clemson anal cavities as tight as a tick on a dog's johnson right now.

Unbelievable!!!

Way to go, Jackets!!!!

Now, go take it in OT.

One of the best late game comebacks I've ever seen by Tech. I eat all my words earlier and give CBG and the team credit.
