It was basically a one-on-one interview between Damon and myself with no one else jumping in there. I kept waiting for someone else to show that raise hand tool to ask a question, but it never came. Ha. So I basically rattled off four or five questions, and Coach was in and out of there and on his way.
First I asked him about how the team handled things after Saturday's thrilling win especially with the days off coming up. Did they kind of stay in the moment and celebrate that one a little bit longer? Stoudamire responded that they felt good about that one until midnight afterwards and then it was already on to the next. He said they watched some film from it the next day, but that was mostly to figure out what they needed to correct instead of celebrating.
Next I asked about what the plan was for this week with several consecutive days off with no game, and Stoudamire said it would be a mix of getting work in while also resting up some with as many minutes as his players have played in games of late. He added that as crazy as it sounds, he would almost rather not have the days off coming off Saturday's win and how the team has played overall the last couple weeks because they have been in a pretty good rhythm and playing some of their best basketball. But he said they will use the time as best they can and have a plan to optimize the week.
I next asked the weekly question about health updates, and it was the same response as usual. He's not going to give anything away too much on what the plan is for the former boot guys (O'Brien, Reeves) or McCollum with the concussion. He said there was no update, but he did add that it would be good to get one or two bodies back in the next couple weeks (so take that for what it's worth). This is me guessing, but I think they get at least one of those boot guys back and McCollum as well, probably not for BC this weekend or the next one on the road at Pitt but possibly for the first one at home in March against NC State.
I asked about preparing for Boston College and what he has figured out yet about them. He said he hasn't dug in too much on them yet, but he knows they are going to be a tough challenge (as is any on the road in conference play), and even with their record in ACC play (2-12), he is expecting them to battle to the end as they try to get into the ACC Tournament. He said Grant does a good job coaching them, but they have ran into some bad luck this year and come up on the wrong side of several close games. (BC has lost four straight with one of those in triple overtime and one in double overtime. They also lost in overtime at UNC a few weeks ago.)
We joked after Saturday's game about the blazer, and Stoudamire said he's going to keep it going and try to get an endorsement deal or at least some free suits out of it. So I asked him today if he's been on the phone since then talking to anyone or if Men's Wearhouse had called yet. He laughed and said he's not too picky but he definitely wanted something a little nicer than Men's Wearhouse. He said he's got a little bit of style to uphold. Haha. But as far as the blazer, he said it's sticking around while they're on this run.
