Batt Appointed to College Football Hall of Fame Board of Directors

Georgia Tech athletics director to serve in leadership role for Atlanta and college football landmark

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech director of athletics J Batt has been appointed to the board of directors for the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame, the Hall announced on Thursday.

Batt is one of three new members of the Hall of Fame’s 25-member board of directors. The board includes a wide array of local and national business and sports leaders.

"J Batt's appointment to the College Football Hall of Fame's board of directors is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the sport of college football, and intercollegiate athletics,” said Kimberly Beaudin, President and CEO of the College Football Hall of Fame. “His leadership at Georgia Tech has exemplified the values of hard work, integrity and perseverance that we hold dear at the Hall of Fame. We are thrilled to welcome him to our esteemed board, and I have no doubt that his passion and expertise will be instrumental in furthering our mission of preserving the rich traditions of college football for generations to come."

“I’m honored and excited to join the College Football Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors,” Batt said. “Having the Hall of Fame located less than a mile from our campus is a point of pride for Georgia Tech, and I am proud to represent Georgia Tech and our commitment to supporting the city of Atlanta as one of America’s best college sports cities and the Capital of College Football.

“I’m also looking forward to working with an incredible group of leaders to help the Hall fulfill its mission of preserving the traditions of college football, celebrating the universal values of hard work, integrity and perseverance and immortalizing the greatest players and coaches as role models to inspire future generations. I thank President & CEO Kimberly Beaudin for the opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.”

The National Football Foundation (NFF) founded the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951 and relocated it to Atlanta in 2014. Adjacent to the Georgia World Congress Center and Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta, less than a mile from Georgia Tech’s midtown campus, the Hall provided visitors with a highly immersive, interactive and engaging experience, using a blend of historic college football artifacts and state-of-the-art multimedia exhibits. The College Football Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization that provides a national platform for community outreach, education and character development initiatives, and serves as a premier special event venue.

Later this year, former head coach Paul Johnson will become Georgia Tech’s 20th College Football Hall of Fame inductee and its third in the last 10 years, joining quarterback Joe Hamilton (2014) and wide receiver Calvin Johnson (2018).

Several countdown to gameday memes

It’s GAME WEEK!

It seems like one of the longest off-seasons ever. Despite Collins being fired almost a full year ago, his cloud has hung over this program.

Dang I can’t wait to lose my voice in the Benz again. To stand up and cheer on my Jackets. To sing IARRFGT and UWTWG after TDs.

I’m ready for us to be physical again. To be a tough out against the impossible and win a few of the highly improbable.

It’s GAME WEEK, LFG!!

PPP Review NCST

Alright lads we have missed a few weeks as I am in a grind at work.

Some notes:

This thread was hard to grade. Very hard. Low meme effort, way more snark than fun, we were getting too chippy with each other! Some of you can play WR at NCST with those attitudes! You know who you are, I am disappointed, your moms are disappointed, and at the rate some of your were going, everyone's grandmother was disappointed.

I am still disappointed in the lot of you Bobby Ross crew, as bad as the coaching wails got no one brought him up. Did you guys opt out?

All decent referees seem to have OPTED OUT for the season because the calls against the Wolfpack were BTL. Where the heck is Joe Paterno to chase a referee when you need him? Do we have an elder statesman among us who can achieve the same effect?

Here's the grades for the restaya:

@techneek was falsely accused of opting out of the season during this game, this unfortunate roster mismanagement occurred due to COVID-related budget cuts. By attending the game in person he gets an 80.

@RyanS12 LET GO OF THE ROPE!!!! In the midst of an uneven season, the tenured vet left the game before it was over. BTL! Last home game upcoming to redeem yourself.

@hiveredtech made his strongest and most consistent performance of the season, set the pace with a solid 82.

@Buddy Smiggins was absent until he was offered some Sprite Zero, it perked him right back up to his usual self. We may be able to get him to volunteer for ref chasing duty. 77. Buddy, to get into the 80s I recommend consuming a large Sprite no ice about 30 minutes prior to kickoff.

@BarrelORum was mostly absent. This late in the season the cold may be getting to him. Remember, if you're cold, he's cold, so someone let him indoors if you see him. BTL - last home game to redeem yourself tomorrow! You do get a 69 for posting the only real gif in the thread.

@BigDaddyBuzz was a solid presence and was on the refs with RELENTLESS EFFORT like NCST WRs on our DBs all night, 88.

@terrycomer kept his mind on the game and was focused, 86.5 right behind BDB

@jonfreeman03 solid 59. You were all over the boards, but less game commentary than thread commentary. A meta posting approach can be a path to a good grade, but you need memes! Your grade is more a reflection of the overall chippy thread.

@foxyg makes his first appearance in the notable performers crowd with a double play Mike Sewak in a Pandemic reference, the points from that play get you to a 71.

Solid but not spectacular efforts from @ramblin_rekt @GTDGN04 @melloace @GTcrazy @BeerBrewingJacket @Seccuro @MountainJacket , we had to go deep into our roster in that thread to replace the suspended fighters and the ones who let go of the rope and opted out. All ATL with grades in low 60s.

BTL: ALL PEOPLE INVOLVED WITH THE FIGHTING

opt out/low snap count: were you all spending time with @jonfreeman03 's wife? Jogging your routes?

I couldn't find a thread for this, but I'm using my phone in an Idalia power outage...so please merge if needed.

My favorite part of this article is the comment about "Purdue and other elite programs..." I definitely laughed out loud.

HOOPS Women’s Basketball Sets Non-Conference Schedule

Yellow Jackets will host seven non-conference matchups in McCamish Pavilion

THE FLATS – Highlighted by seven contests in McCamish Pavilion, the 2023-24 Georgia Tech women’s basketball non-conference schedule was announced on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets will travel for three road games in addition to the Cancun Challenge over the Thanksgiving holiday.

In the 12-game non-conference schedule, Georgia Tech will face six teams that competed in postseason tournaments last season and four teams that recorded 20-plus win seasons a year ago. Fans will get a preview of the 2023-24 squad when Georgia Tech hosts Georgia College in exhibition play on Nov. 2.

The non-conference slate officially tips-off on Nov. 6 when the Yellow Jackets welcome Coastal Carolina to McCamish Pavilion. Furman visits on Nov. 11 before Tech makes its first road trip of the season to Rice for a contest on Nov. 16. The Jackets return home to welcome Kennesaw State on Nov. 19 before heading to Cancun, Mexico for the Cancun Challenge.

Georgia Tech joins the 10-team field in Cancun as part of the Riviera Division, playing two games at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. The Yellow Jackets will face Creighton and New Mexico on Nov. 23 and Nov. 24, respectively. Capping the season at 22-9 overall last year, Creighton reached the semifinals of the Big East Tournament before earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Tech will face a quick turnaround against New Mexico the following day. The Lobos are coming off a successful season with a trip to the WNIT second round after a quarterfinal appearance in the Mountain West Conference tournament.

The Yellow Jackets return from the holiday tournament to host Florida on Nov. 29 in the inaugural ACC/SEC Women’s Basketball Challenge. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. in McCamish Pavilion and the game will be televised on an ESPN network.

The month of December features five games and opens with a trip to Nebraska on Dec. 2 for the third meeting in program history between the Yellow Jackets and Huskers. Following the trip to Lincoln, Neb., Georgia Tech hosts a two-game homestand against Mercer (Dec. 5) and Georgia State (Dec. 10).

Georgia Tech will play its final non-conference road game on Dec. 16 when it makes the short trip to in-state rival, Georgia. The non-conference schedule concludes on Dec. 20 when the Yellow Jackets host USC Upstate.

Season ticket information for the upcoming women’s basketball season will be available soon.

Guided by fifth-year head coach Nell Fortner, Georgia Tech returns seven letterwinners from last season’s squad, while welcoming six newcomers, including a pair of transfers.
