12:00 (ESPN-2) #14 Miami [3-0/0-0] at Georgia Tech [3-1/1-1]
This game has been previewed in another thread. The Canes are currently a 6.5 pt favorite.
12:00 (ESPN) Syracuse [2-2/0-1] vs Notre Dame [1-3] at East Rutherford, NJ
Syracuse is coming off a nice win (31-24) at UConn, while the Irish are coming off a dreadful home loss (as 3 TD favorites) to Duke. Irish are 4-3 over Syracuse all-time. Orange have won 3 of the last 5 going back to 1963. Irish won last meeting 2 years ago, 31-15, also at Met Life Stadium. Notre Dame is laying 12.5 pts.
12:30 (ACC Network) Virginia [1-3/0-0] at Duke [2-2/0-1]
Virginia is coming off an impressive first win of the season that saw them put up 49 pts. I didn’t think they could score enough to keep up with CMU, but they certainly did that and then some. Duke rolls back home off of one of its biggest non-conference victories in many years. All-time, Virginia leads the series by the narrowest of margins, 34-33. Duke has won 6 of the last 8, though Virginia won last year’s meeting at Scott Sisson Stadium, 42-34, breaking a 3-game winning streak by the Devils. Random factoid…the last time the final margin in this game was less than a TD was 2002. Duke is a 3.5 pt favorite.
1:00 (ACC Network Extra) Buffalo [1-2] at Boston College [2-2/0-2]
Another BC game where if you are watching this, please seek help. Bulls coming off an overtime win over Army. BC defeated 1-AA Wagner. BC is 17.5 pt favorites.
3:30 (ESPN or ESPN-2) Cheaters [3-1/1-0] at #12 Florida State [3-1/0-1]
The Cheaters are coming off a home win that saw them score at the very end to skim by Pitt. They are ranked #23 in this week’s coaches poll, but outside looking in in the AP poll. FSU got itself right again by ripping a good USF team on the road this past weekend. This is FSU’s 2nd home game of the season. These 2 have met 18 times and the series has been dominated by the Noles to the tune of a 15-2-1 record. Though, the Cheaters did win the last meeting in 2010, 37-35. The only other win by the Cheaters was in 2001. Side note rant, more reason why I’d like to see the ACC move to a 9+1 scheduling model. This game should be played more often. Better for the ACC. Better inventory for ESPN. Better exposure for all. Better fairness for the Coastal that these teams have to play Clemson or FSU more frequently. But, I digress. The Noles are currently a 11.5 pt favorite. They (FSU) should have little in their way to score this week as the Gene Chizik’s Cheaters’ defense is horrible.
3:30 (RSN) Wake Forest [4-0/1-0] at NC State [2-1/0-0]
Hey hey hey, ring up the Deacs? Undefeated so far. Big win at Indiana this past Saturday. NC State had an off week and extra time to prep for this, their ACC opener. These 2 programs have met a whopping 109 times. The Pack leads all-time 65-38-6. NC State has won 3 of the last 4 and the last 2 in a row. After NC State pretty much dominated the 80’s and 90’s, they split 5-5 in the 00’s. This current decade has seen NCSU lead 4-2 so far. The Pack is a 9-pt favorite.
7:30 (RSN) Marshall [1-2] at Pittsburgh [2-2/0-1]
Marshall is coming off a home loss to powerhouse, Louisville, and Pitt is coming off a disappointing loss at UNC, where they led the entire game and let it get away at the very end. This will be the first ever meeting between these 2 programs, which is a little surprising considering they are only about 250 miles apart. This game is currently off the board at the sportsbooks.
8:00 (ABC) #3 Louisville [4-0/2-0] at #5 Clemson [4-0/1-0]
Huge game with national title, ACC title, and definite playoff implications. UofL rolls in off a dominant win at Marshall. Clemson is of course coming off the same at Tech. These 2 have only met twice – both since UofL of course has entered the ACC. Clemson won them both in relatively low-scoring affairs (23-17 in ’14 and 20-17 last year). ESPN Game Day will be in town. Clemson is an early 2 pt favorite.
Virginia Tech is off this week.
And a few others…
3:30 (CBS) #11 Tennessee [4-0/1-0] at #25 Cesspool [3-1/1-1]
This is a huge game to decide the SEC-East champion and could even have playoff implications. Tennessee is coming off the emotional comeback win over the Gators, while the Cesspool has its heads tucked between its hind legs due to the humiliating loss at Ole Miss. In the 45 meetings between these two, the Vols now hold a slim 22-21-2 lead. The Vols won at home a year ago, 38-31, which broke a nasty 5-game losing streak that pulled the Cesspool closer in the all-time series. UT broke open a big lead in the series thanks to a 9-game winning streak from ’89 to ’99. Since then though, the Cesspool has enjoyed a 11-5 record over the Vols. The Vols already have what amounts to a 2-game lead over Florida. A win for Tennessee here, does the same for them versus the Cesspool. The Big Orange have been outscored 34-10 in the 1Q so far this season. Would be nice to see them come out and get an early lead for a change and then step on the vulnerable doggy throats. Go Vols! UT is a field goal favorite.
3:30 (CBS Sports Network) Navy [3-0/2-0 in AAC] at Air Force [3-0/1-0 in MWC]
One of the best games each year that gets lost in the shuffle of the midseason it seems. The winner of this game has been the favorite to win the CIC Trophy going on 20+ years. These normally are close games as each teams knows the other’s system pretty well and the talent levels are always very close. Though, this year, thank goodness the West Pointers may actually have a say in the CICT. These represent the best of what D1A CFB is about IMO. Classy fanbases of course. And, both teams come into this early October battle undefeated. These 2 have faced one another 48 times. The Fly Boys have a 28-20 lead in the series. Though, the USNA has enjoyed a 10-3 streak since 2002 (coinciding with Admiral Johnson’s arrival at Annapolis). Navy won last year at home, 33-11. USAFA won in Colorado Springs 2 years ago, 30-21. Should be another great one. Air Force is laying 7 pts.
3:30 (ABC) #8 Wisconsin [4-0/1-0] at #4 Michigan [4-0/1-0]
Will the real Badgers team please stand up? They beat a decent, but not nearly as good as their hype, LSU team…then, almost lose to the Georgia State Prostitutes at home…and then, last weekend they head to Michigan State and routs them with relative ease. Michigan is loaded and it sure didn’t take Jim Harbaugh long to have them in the top 5 and tapping on the Big 10 title consideration. These 2 programs have met 64 times. Michigan holds an all-time series lead, 49-14-1. Though, Wisconsin has won the last 2 and last 3 of 4. The last time they met was 2010 when Wiscy won 48-28. The first time they played one another was back in 1892 (a Michigan win, 10-6). Should be a good one. The Wolverines are laying 10 pts.
