Big weekend setting up for the Volleybees (13-7/4-4) starting tonight against one of the strongest teams in the ACC, North Carolina (9-8/6-2). Streamed live at 7pm via ESPN-3. In ACC matches only, UNC is 2nd in the conference in hitting percentage and tops in blocks. Individually, Paige Neuenfeldt (Sr., 6'2") leads the conference in hitting and is 2nd in blocks. Her teammates, Victoria McPherson (Sr., 6'2") leads the ACC in blocks.
The Jackets have been playing really well of late and are coming off a nice weekend road trip that saw them almost take out a very good Pitt team on the road a week ago and then follow up with a nice win at Blacksburg on Sunday. While UNC is the favorite tonight, the home crowd at O'Keefe could make a big difference for this young, hungry Volleybees bunch. Tech only has 1 senior on the roster and she is not a regular starter.
The Volleybees follow up with a home match at 3pm (televised via RSN, streamed via ESPN-3) vs NC State (12-8/1-7). This is definitely a match the Volleybees need to win and not letdown (see Kennesaw State earlier this season). If the Volleybees could sweep the weekend, their chances of registering around 22 wins on the season is significantly enhanced and that level of wins puts them easily in the discussion for a NCAAT bid. First things first, hopefully they play well tonight in front of a packed homecoming O'Keefe crowd and take out the Tar Holes.
