As everyone knows, the current health crisis in our midst is...besides putting loved ones in harm's way...putting financial burdens on many segments of the economy. Travel, hotels, sports/entertainment, etc., are taking some hard hits. The restaurant industry might be taking the biggest blow, as most non-chain (LOCAL) establishments already operate on minuscule margins in the normal course of business. Now, most have shuttered their dining rooms to protect the well-being of both their patrons and their hard-working staffs...but even being able to continue offering their fare thru take-out or delivery options can barely make a dent in the loss of their life-blood...cash flow.
whiskeychef and his partners are not only icons in the ATL restaurant community, they are some of the biggest/best when it comes to 'giving back'. When one of their dear friends/colleagues was blindsided by a tragic diagnosis some years ago, it was Chris, Ryan and Todd who went to him and his wife and offered to do whatever they could. Their compassion was manifested in the rallying of the ATL restaurant community around their fellow chef and raising some major $ to help the couple out. It's that spirit and their friend's lasting legacy that became 'The Giving Kitchen'...a non-profit with the mission of "Helping Food service Workers in Crisis", both financially and via community resources. That vision has been so successful and inspiring that TGK was named the 2019 James Beard Foundation's "Humanitarian of the Year" recipient. In just the last couple of days, multiple members of the Atlanta sports community have stepped up and lent significant support to TGK thru personal donations.
But there's more that we can do to help these guys (and the staffers they love!) out. If you can, order take-out or (when available) delivery (TIP BIGLY!!) Or...do like i just did...and order a GIFT CARD (or cards!) that are good at all of their restaurants, either as gifts or for YOURSELF (because we all love LOCAL THREE!)
