Georges-Hunt Named Second-Team All-ACC

Tech senior ranks in ACC top 10 in scoring, FG percentage and FT percentage vs. conference teams

Greensboro, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s Marcus Georges-Hunt has been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference second team by a vote of the conference head coaches, the ACC announced Sunday afternoon.

Georges-Hunt, a senior from College Park, Ga., was named to the All-ACC third team Sunday by a vote of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. He ranks seventh in the ACC in scoring average overall (16.6 points per game) and fifth against the conference (18.1). He also ranks in the top 10 in free throw percentage (81.3 percent) for the season and has shot 48.6 percent from the floor in ACC games, which also ranks among the league’s top 10 players.

The 6-5 guard has scored in double figures in 25 of 31 games this season, and has scored 20 or more points in 11 games (fifth-most in the ACC). He was moved into Tech’s starting point guard role for the latter part of the ACC schedule and leads the Jackets in assists in ACC games. His performance has been a key factor in the Yellow Jackets winning six of their last eight games to finish the regular season 18-13, Tech’s best record since 2009-10, and the ACC schedule 8-10, the most ACC wins since 2006-07.

He has risen to 12th place on Tech’s all-time scoring list this season with 1,642 points, leaping over 23 Yellow Jacket stars since the beginning of the season. He also has entered the Tech top 10 in career free throws and free throws attempted.

The Yellow Jackets have drawn the 10th seed in this week’s New York Life ACC Tournament, and will face No. 7 Clemson at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

Virginia senior Malcolm Brogdon was voted the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches and leads that group’s list of postseason honors and all-conference teams. Brogdon was also voted the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, and Duke’s Brandon Ingram was the overwhelming choice as the ACC Freshman of the Year. Miami’s Jim Larrañaga was voted the ACC Coach of the Year, while North Carolina junior Isaiah Hicks earned recognition as Sixth Man of the Year. Clemson junior Jaron Blossomgame and Duke sophomore Grayson Allen tied in the coaches’ voting for the ACC’s Most Improved Player.

Brogdon and North Carolina senior Brice Johnson were unanimous choices to the All-ACC first team. They are joined by NC State junior Anthony “Cat” Barber, Duke’s Allen and Clemson’s Blossomgame.

Georges-Hunt is joined on the All-ACC second team by Notre Dame’s Demetrius Jackson, Miami’s Sheldon McClellan, Duke’s Ingram and Syracuse’s Michael Gbinije.

Louisville’s Damion Lee, Virginia’s Anthony Gill, Pitt’s Michael Young, Notre Dame’s Zach Auguste and Miami’s Tonye Jekiri earned third-team All-ACC honors in the coaches’ voting.

Duke’s Ingram is joined on the All-ACC Freshman Team by Florida State’s Dwayne Bacon and Malik Beasley, Syracuse’s Malachi Richardson and Wake Forest’s Bryant Crawford.

Miami’s Jekiri, Syracuse’s Gbinije, Clemson’s Landry Nnoko, North Carolina’s Johnson and Louisville’s Chinanu Onuaku join Brogdon on the 2015-16 All-ACC Defensive Team.
