With Anthony Harrell's departure from Tech, this opens up the starting role - or at least where it stood coming out of spring practice. Beau Hankins was listed as the #2 at the position on the final spring depth chart and we can assume he will start August drills as the #1 guy at ILB.

Btw, I wish Anthony the best with the Gators this fall. Hopefully, he will be a part of a winning game on Halloween.

Tech of course signed 3 talented linebackers in Brant Mitchell, Tyler Cooksey, and Victor Alexander in this past signing class. It will be interesting to see if any of the 3 crack into the rotation and are in the running for Harrell's departed role. Tre' Jackson also returns as a R-Fr., though he has had 2 spring practices under his belt and last fall on the scout team. I'm hopeful Tre' steps up and into the mix or at minimum makes these 3 true freshmen work their collective behinds off to get into the rotation ahead of him. Of course, we potentially will see a couple of these guys eventually wind up on the outside instead of inside too.

All 3 of these guys were highly sought after. Alexander was a recruiting coup for the Tech staff as it went down to signing day and Coach Johnson and Coach Roof were thrilled to learn of the recruiting battle win over UCLA. Cooksey is of course a Tech legacy as his dad played for the Jackets and he grew up attending Tech games. Mitchell, the largest of the 3 new linebackers, is a 2-time Mr. Football in the state of Tennessee and was named both the Defensive AND Offensive MVP in the Webb School's state championship victory this past season.

I really look forward to watching these young men develop during their time at Tech. I still consider Ted Roof to be one of the best - if not THE best - inside linebackers I have ever seen in white & gold. They certainly have a great mentor in him.
