The Tour moves to the suburbs of Toronto this week for the Canadian Open. The 4th major championship, The PGA Championship, is a week away as it moves up in schedule due to the Olympics this year.

pgatour.com lists all 6 regular Tour Golfing J's participating this week in Oakville, Ontario...(with current FedEx Cup Standings in parenthesis)

  • Roberto Castro (48)
  • Stewart Cink (159)
  • Chesson Hadley (156)
  • Matt Kuchar (16)
  • Bryce Molder (66)
  • Cameron Tringale (101)
I will keep an eye on the tee times later today to see if Cink plays this week as listed. When looking at the FECS, Castro, Kooch and Molder are all nicely in the top 125 leather for assuring their place on next year's Tour. Tringale is in pretty good shape at 101 as well. Cink and Hadley need a win or some top 10 finishes. Hadley played well this past week in Alabama. The Tour has about a month left before the FedEx run takes place through late August and September.

CBS will have live network TV coverage of the Canadian Open this weekend. Weather forecast looks decent with Friday being the potential trouble day with some t'storms possible.

Side note, today and tomorrow US Amateur qualifying is taking place at Roswell. Unsure if any Golfing J's are involved at the moment, but willing to bet the answer to that is yes. Next week on Mon & Tue, the same will take place in Newnan, GA. The US Amateur Championships take place the week of August 15. Hopefully, we will see at least one Golfing Jacket (and preferably more) compete for a title.

Update on Luke...he finished with the low score and by 6 strokes. Hopefully, he can ride that momentum in about a month to the US Am.

Whaley had a rough day finishing 13th. Still unsure how many advance.

3 Golfing J's off to strong starts in Canada today...all finished...

  • Hadley -5, tied for 2nd, currently 1 stroke back of the lead
  • Tringale -4, tied for 5th currently
  • Kuchar, -3, tied for 9th currently...he was -5 before double bogeying his 16th hole (#7, par 3)...only non-par/birdie hole of the day for Kooch
Cink is still early in his round. Castro finished with a disappointing +2 after getting off to a good -2 start. Molder is +5 thru 8 holes.

Ollie is making a final push to be atop the web.com money list at season's end with a strong start to the Utah Championship.

Thanks for the update, mate. Always appreciate it. Looks like a good week brewing for the Schniederjans as brother and Tech newbie this fall, Luke, qualified for the US Amateur in Roswell earlier this week with the low score at the qualifier.

Looks like 4 of the 6 Golfing J's at the Canadian Open will make the cut this week. Cink (+3) will miss it by 1 stroke. Molder at +5 will miss the cut as well.

Kooch begins Saturday tied for 8th at -4 and 3 shots off the lead (though Kelly Kraft is also -7 with 2 holes left). Hadley (+1) and Castro (+2) make the cut, but are pretty far back. Hadley had a disappointing +6 round today coming off his 1st round 67 (-5).

The PGA Championship next week is at Baltrusrol GC in Jersey. The tee times for the final major were released a bit ago... http://www.pgatour.com/news/2016/07/22/pga-championship-tee-times.html

Castro, Kuchar, Molder and Tringale will be competing.

Kooch opens with a birdie then eagle on his first 2 holes today to quickly get to -7 and tied for the lead. Nice!

Of course, my jinx on him when posting good news during a round works yet again. Kooch bogeys #3.

A lot of low scores today early. Should be fun viewing on CBS at 3pmET.

Kooch (-2 today) and Tringale (-3 today) both sit at -6 and tied for 5th and will start out Sunday's final round 3 strokes back of the lead.

Fun fact... Kooch and Tringale are paired together for Sunday's final round tomorrow. Tee time is scheduled for 1:05pmET. Only 3 groups teeing off after them.

Wow! What a streaky player Jhonattan Vegas is. He flirted with a 59 at Alabama last week and today he has birdied 5 straight holes (#2 thru #6) to jump up into the lead at -9.

Kooch and Tringale each birdied the easiest hole on the course -#2 par 5 - to get to -7, 2 strokes back.
