The next-to-last PGA Tour event of the season takes place in Carmel, Indiana, just outside of Indianapolis at the Crooked Stick Golf Club.

2 Golfing J's have qualified in the top 70 for this week's event. They are Roberto Castro and Matt Kuchar. There will be no cut this week.

Castro sits at 53rd in this week's standings. The top 30 qualify for the final event of the season at the end of the month in Atlanta at East Lake CC. Kuchar is just inside the top 30 leather at #28.

Looks like many t'storms in the forecast on Friday, so I expect significant delays this week. NBC will have weekend network TV coverage.

FWIW, tee times...

Thursday...Castro 10:14am, Kuchar 1:09pm

Friday...Kuchar 10:47am, Castro 12:20pm

Round 1 has been suspended at the moment due to lightning in the area. But, get this, Roberto Castro sits atop the leaderboard at this break with a scorching 5-under round so far thru 12 holes. 5 birdies and nothing ugly on the card.

Hopefully, he can finish off a very good 1st round once play resumes. Stay tuned...

Roberto Castro goes on to fire a 7-under 65 and is in the lead. Nice!

Some of the afternoon session golfers will likely have to finish their 1st round Friday morning.

Kuchar at the BMW is doing well. He's -3 thru 13 holes when play was halted due to darkness on Thursday. Play resumes at 8amET today. With only 70 golfers in this event, they have a good chance to get everybody's 2nd round in today and back on schedule. Tomorrow though, they will be dodging t'storms a lot of the day.

Kooch resumed his 1st round brilliantly this morning going birdie-birdie-birdie to get to -6 thru 16 and looking to join Castro at the top. But, bogeys on each of the last 2 holes has him at -4 heading into his 2nd round later today. Still, a good start and great to see not one, but two, GJ's near the top. Kooch currently tied for 6th.

Sorry to mix both the PGA event and the GJ's at their first tourney of the season in Rocky Face, but interesting that Luke Schniederjans is also playing in the tourney but as an "individual" with score not counting towards the Tech team score. He's of course -4 thru 6 holes and leading the medalist play at the moment. Kind of like when you struggle to start or sit a guy on your fantasy team and then the guy who is benched goes off for 30+ pts. :D

Another fantastic 7-under 65 by Castro who is tied at -14 with Dustin Johnson heading into Saturday's 3rd round. Matt Kuchar is tied for 6th at -7.

Nice!

Both guys can qualify for the top 30 and the final event in Atlanta with strong rounds Saturday & Sunday.

Woohoo!!

Castro's 3rd place finish vaulted him from 53 to 21 in the standings - safely making the top 30 that get to play in the final event in Atlanta! Kooch finished in a tie for 4th that moved him from 28 to 16 in the standings and also in. Golfing J's on tour came up big on a big weekend. Congrats to both!
