We had gotten past the disappointing Lewis era, Coach O'Leary had brought discipline, credibility, and competency back to the program.
Lil' Joe showed great improvement at QB and gave reason for optimism to those of us that had suffered through an awful stretch.
He went from 7 TD/13 INT in '96 to 12 TD/7 INT in '97...
We made a bowl game (West Virginia) and won after a 5 year dry run. It gave the program a big dose of energy and set the stage for an awesome experience in '98... The feeling this year makes me think about that year. Lots of pieces in place, just needed to learn how to win.
Biggest difference now is the transfer portal and NIL... honestly I'm not sure what that means for us, to what extent can/will we compete in that world.
Bottom line: I see reason to feel encouraged at the moment, GT Admin MUST continue doing their part... if you're going to present a business product to the public, asking consumers to "buy" your product, you MUST continue to support your own "company" ... (Coaches, Players/Fans)
