I love CFB. But, just when you think maybe D1A CFB is heading in the right direction with a playoff system (and that is a good move, just wish it would move to 8 teams as it should with 5 auto qualifiers)...
...along comes this Cost of Attendance nonsense. You could see this coming a kilometer away.
The Cesspool "quietly" increased its Cost of Attendance figure... http://ugasports.blog.ajc.com/2015/07/29/georgia-quietly-increased-its-cost-of-attendance-figure/
I guess it costs more to attend the state Cesspool than an internationally -recognized technology school in the middle of Atlanta. LOL!
Btw, I am not blaming the Cesspool here. They are just doing what the other keep-up-with-the-joneses football factories are doing. It isn't their fault for this ridiculously stupid concept that is more ripe than ever for abuse. And, to be fair, Georgia Tech needs to look at its COA figures and likely will increase ours whether "quietly" (LOL!) or not so quietly.
This snowball will be fun to watch. D1A takes one step forward and then as usual takes 3 steps back in terms of trying to keep it exclusive to the top 20 to 25 factory programs. The entire SEC is now competing with one another to see who costs the most to attend. Before long notorious cheating programs like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia...oh hell, the entire SEC less Vandy...will have its COA at 622 thousand bucks per year. This is looney tunes. It is also just one more example of why so many fans are growing annoyed by D1A CFB.
The factories need to be careful. Exclusivity is one thing. Protecting 100 years of being in the country club and making it even more difficult for paying members of the club to excel is one thing. But, taking it to unprecedented levels of exclusivity will wind up looking like secession efforts and nobody else in the country club (ACC, Pac 12, Big 10 less their factories) are going to want to play for the club championship with such growing imbalanced playing fields (as is mentioned in the article linked above). It's like Bama and others are playing from the ladies tees while a lot of the rest of D1A CFB is playing from the pro back tees.
