WR blocking is awful. Don't think Messick made a block all game. Stewart missed a lot as well. Jeune was half and half. Going to have to sit down sooner, leave space and let the db make a move and then engage. We were constantly over shooting the db. Not every WR can be an aggressive physical blocker. Coaches will have to swallow some pride and just get in the db's way. No real deep threats either in the passing game to keep the safeties back either. Most of it is youth, but we have to adjust the blocking until they grow up.
Need to take a look at moving Burden if Marshall is comparable at Center. The OT's got shoved down while trying to get to the MLB on veer. This allowed the Mike to get to the outside and took away the dive read all at once. Devine got to the outside when he pulled ok, but would Burden get there a little better at LG? Or could Burden avoid getting squeezed down and get to the Mike at OT?
Aback blocking wasn't stellar, but isn't what killed us today. Lynch and Willis looked good enough to win with.
The only thing play call wise I would have like to have seen, was some unbalanced line to be able to pick up the walked up OLB shooting in. They were bringing 3 to our 2 most of the game. You either run away from it, or bring in another blocker and make them pay. Other than that, it's hard to call plays when they aren't blocking.
It's almost like every year, we go through a spell in the first half of the season where we are not selling out on the Line with our blocking and just doing the minimum. Coaches ride their tails, and we become dominate on the OLine by the end of the season. Was hoping we finally wouldn't have to go through it this year. Better get it going quick.
